Started in A bunch with racing tandems , what where the organizers thinking ???

Bunch was way to big and very fast :) and dangerous :(

Apparently at the finish there was talk of DSQ the whole bunch for dangerous riding :( I mean come on you the organizers put us all together not our fault the roads are soo narrow :(

We caught some Cat 4 riders after 25kms it was chaos.

I am just happy to have finished in one piece with a great time as a bonus.

That was an absolute stuff up.

How on earth could they put AL with Racing Tandems.

At the 50km mark, we had an avg of around 49km/h. WTF????

Yes we caught C4 and C3. I understand that AL wont be DQ'd but there was talk of C4 having trouble. C4 wouldnt give way to AL.

By the time we hit SBR, the bunch was made up of Racing Tandems, AL, C3, and C4.

The smell of Brakes, lurching in the bunch was characteristic of this race.

What a balls up. Not too happy

jip, I was shitting myself big time for much of the race. I dont know what they were thinking?

Also very relieved to have come out of this one in 1 piece. Almost got taken out in the incident just before we started the climb out of Heidelberg.

But hey, I'll gladly take the time and ave! Certainly my quickest ever race

both the C4 comms said that C4 is to be DQd in it's entirety. sorry to the FEW who did pull over at first request but seriously... to the C3 and C4 guys concerned...

1 - if you get dropped by C3 do NOT jump in to the C4 bunch

2 - if the next bunch catches you and the marshal (at request of comm) rides up saying "get left please and let the next bunch go" it does NOT mean "ooh, your d$%^ is small, speed up and mess up their race"

3 - when the marshals then come up and instruct that the tandems be allowed to go and the C4 to drop back (ie C4 to the back, then the rest, then the tandems can be on their way" do NOT come with shitty attitudes

4 - when the marshal then comes and says "C4s, the comm says your race is over, please pull out now" do NOT continue with **** attitude. if you are NOT C4 then let the marshal past to advise all. when the marshals and the comms are hooting to get past and yelling for ALL C4s to pull over DO SO.

bunch of pathetic twits and the C3s who were in that bunch were also disgusting. the whole damn lot deserve the DQ that both comms said they were gonna get. it is just a pity that the few guys who DID behave must now also suffer a DQ.

you lot always bitch and moan that the safety etc is not up to scratch - but ffs, if you deliberately disregard the rules AND ignore instructions then what the heck do you expect???

i need to take my SV to be fixed (having just spent over R2k oon a service i seriously can't afford this) because of damage sustained by "offroading" etc while playing "chicken" with 18 wheelers and luxury 4x4s in order to get you safely to the finish line. at this stage the ONLY reason i've not stopped marshalling is that i have friends who are cyclists. and in this instance a whole lot who have been negatively affected - someone who DID pull over when asked to do so, tandem riders and A bunch riders. all of whom did NOT have a good day because of the idiots in the C4 bunch and the C3 dropouts who contributed to the mayhem

thanks for your efforts. It was a rider numer 673 who when A passed them jumped in, ignored the calls from C4 to come back and that caused the rest of C4 to ract and join in. Agree with innocent riders being affected now, but sure next time they will sort their maatjie out. They all did National service and will know how to deal wit the culprit.

trubie, if you point said rider out to me next time i'll klap him hard enough to sort him out before the race event starts - any legal defence will be 100% honest that i would prefer not to spend 80km putting my life and bike in danger because of him

I think this is going to be a continuous problem.

I recon the A bunch are quicker than the Cat 4 people.

I rode B today and we also had a smell of brakes.

Just after the start (3.5km) a guy or two went down but the one guy probably got really hurt, his bike landed in front of me and I just managed to miss it.

We waited for the serious Tandems and Al's to go, and then had a good race with the mixed tandems - but ja seriously they need to split the tandems ... my wife refused to peddle with all the young testosterone filled guys <_< - it distracted her

What was the time for the A group?

Slowpoke, thanks for yours efforts. I rode A and the Cat 4 riders really messed up our race. Their DQ was fully deserved! It just made things very dangerous for everybody.

Jimmy, main A got about 2:43. But I think there was a breakaway group. Not sure how far ahead as the Cat 4 riders messed things up and caused confusion.

Had a good morning out in V(I)P.

We got caught by C at the top of the steps & so had to have the obligatory crash, maybe there was more than 1.

It happens every year - huge bunches, the road narrows, we're going 50kmh+.

After that everything was cool, including the weather, little wind & by the time there's some serios effort needed we'd done 50kms.

Nope, no breakaway grp up ahead

Bunch finished together, Riaan La Cock took honours, with Linden guy 2nd.

Why didn't you catch us (B group) ?

Some of your BIOGEN powered friends caught us at about the 50km mark.
