I am sure this question has been raised a couple of times on the hub, but let's see which lubes are better than others. I ride both on and off road events and has tried various products to satisfy my quest for the best. Two lubes have both proved to be really good, Rock 'n Roll Gold and Purple Extreme. Rock 'n Roll keeps the chain lubricated for longer, but requires a wipe after a ride or two, as it tends to make the chain black. Purple Extreme keeps the chain sqeaky clean, almost to the point where one wonders if the chain is lubricated at all. A long lasting lube is Chain L, if you can handle the splattering all over your bike. It is rather thick, and the container needs to be warmed-up in boiling water to apply evenly, but requires a lot of effort to wipe down before your ride. This lube is in my opinion good for training bikes which are not used off road, as it is a dust collector. I have made a mixture between Rock 'n Roll and Chain L which is easier to apply than neat Chain L and it gives a very smooth ride and shifting. Because I am yet to find the perfect lube for all my applications, I use three lubes as follows: Purple Extreme on my racing road bike, Rock 'n Roll on my mtb, and Chain L / Rock 'n Roll mix on my training road bike.

What is your lube of choice?

Dude, your starting a religious thread here and certain hubbers are going to be hitting that report button hard than a Nooit-4-Nooit Komeptisie :)

But back to the religious topic, I'm converted to wet lube and use Finish Line (well its all I have at home right now). What I've learn't with wet lube is to keep the chain clean. Since I got a chain cleaning gadget, its such a breeze.

I run the Rock N roll extreme on my MTB and Road bikes... I deal with the dirt as it last well in a wide range of conditions.

The other lube I run is the green goop of finish line wet, MTB in the wet...It lasts...

Must say Rock and Roll gold is the best for me, I have used Purple extreme and found that it doesnt lubricate as long as the Gold but both are my favourites too!!! :D

Mountainbike and Road tested LOL!!!

I use Chain L and give it a few good wipes especially after a dusty ride. After a few rides I would add some Squirt and this then keeps the chain shiny.

With Chain L you must only give each roller halve a drop and then a good wipe 30mins later. No need to warm it up, otherwise you apply too much.

I would say this is true with any wet lube. Even my Finish Line which I use to hate works 100% perfect since I took the time and patience to apply correctly.

Motorex wet and dry for wet and dry rides respectively. I used Squirt for a long time without any problems until my LBS convinced me that it was sh!t... Next round will be back to Squirt though when the Motorex is finished... ;)

Tried a few others, but came back to Squirt. 1 in my car, 1 in my camelbak

One thing I always notice about the Squirt fans is that you are all up country - I seldom hear of someone up north not using Squirt. Down here in the Cape its a different story.

Never tried Squirt but then again few of our LBSs actually sell it. My Epic/Sani mad MD swears by it, oh wait he is from up country, and I still want to try based on his recommendation.

It's like mutton and steak....up here 3 shelves of steak and a corner for mutton, so we eat steak...down there (my hometown) 3 shelves of mutton and 1 for steak...we ate mutton
