It’s been a rough-and-tumble spring for Cannondale-Garmin. The team has only won two races, and saw its top riders across the spring classics succumb to crashes and setbacks. And to add insult to injury, the team languishes in last place in the WorldTour standings, with just 27 points, a gargantuan 800 points behind leader Etixx-Quick-Step.

So why were there so many smiles around the team bus on the eve of the start of stage 2 at the Giro d’Italia on Sunday? Despite some hiccups, riders and staff inside the team bus believe things are bound to turn their way sooner or later.

“When you look at the spring, not very many teams won a lot. I think there are a lot of teams in the same position, and it’s very early to draw any conclusions,” sport director Charly Wegelius told VeloNews on Sunday. “The morale is high, everyone is going about their work, and everyone is excited about the coming races.”

Hesjedal had the coat of paint removed to save 300g during the weekend's TT

He's sitting 11th on GC.

I'm hoping for a top 10 for the lanky Canadian.

It's official!

“Rigo is a leader not just for his excellent skills on the road, but for his charisma,” said Jonathan Vaughters, CEO of Slipstream Sports and Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling. “He brings style and passion to racing and he will be a huge asset to the team. Rigo has one more step to climb in the Giro and I will put my heart into helping make that happen. We are very excited to add him to our 2016 lineup.”

Hey Dale - complements of the Season - the first post here for 2016.

I agree, strange seeing him in anything other than Europcar - going to be good seeing him on a Cannondale !!

They have already placed Rolland on a revised training program and the engine is apparently purring like never before. Rolland as an outside bet for Grand Tour winner in 2016. Yes please.
