EF first came on my radar in the 1997/98 Whitbread round the world race.

they entered two boats, including an all women crewed one.

the men's boat won the race overall

More on the new direction for this team.

It wasn't just sponsorship gained.

I know that Lappartient is apparently tight with the ASO big boys whom are the cause of many of our current problems in the sport but after so many top team continually closing shop i really hope he does something to address this issue during his tenure.

this is old figures now, but the issue remains budget discrepancies. It's a chequebook game. If you want to level the playing fields then you need to find more companies who see a return in the sport, change how sponsors get a return in the sport, find more rich guys who enjoy throwing money at it (like bmc/orica/tinkoff) or you limit the budgets.

Hopefully in 2018 I can win as early or nearly as early as I did, then roll into the other races, ideally with a couple of wins early on. I think you can target and peak for certain races, but as a sprinter I need to start winning when I’m not so good as well and be more consistent in the hunt for the win...

When the team was out of funds, he told Vaughters that he would wait two weeks.

It saved the team, according to Vaughters, as his Mick's staying power drew interest from sponsors.
