i run xx and x9, xx cost me about 20k i think, x9 was about 8k (i think) the difference in shifting smoothness is so small, if weight is not a big concern I would not spend the extra for the xx I would say the x9 is more inline with the slx range, ( I cant fault the x9 would even say the brakes are better then the xx brakes (in my opinion) have you seen the new xt range coming out? very very nice! there are pics of it on here somewhere.
  4. I think it is important to build a technical ability base before jumping on the 29er and if you kid is still young I would probably keep him on the 26 for a while. the 29er does make technical riding much easier but it can only improve on what skills you already have. why not look at his gearing and see if you cant get some more speed on the flats from pushing slightly longer gearing. also consider him growing (if he can grow longer than 1.92m!!) thats just my 2 cents
  5. there is actually a kit your can buy now that just clips onto the 29er wheel to increase the size.........
  6. i know..i know....and it gets worse.....i had riser bars with bar end on then as well! had to try the assos bibs, just got them and wanted to see if they were worth me selling my housemates hifi to buy them.
  7. 9.3! wow, im still sitting on 11.2 and im running xx but got heavy rounds for my heavy stomach!
  8. No the niner was about 1kg heavier than my s-works, I was running xx on the s-works and had X9 on the niner and heavy bars, I have now put the xx on the niner and lighter bars, sitting at 11.2kg now. I was ver surprised how comfy the 29er was, i am a big guy and rode a stumpy before, which is like a couch, so comfy. rode 4 hour last weekend and no problems
  9. yeah that was me, the fat guy in white!
  10. i can confirm! went over the bars at Teak last sunday, overshot a corner and went into that thick grass, ass over face.....must have been a funny site if anybody saw!
  11. this is something i was concerned about, going from a plush dual to a hardtail, I rode 4 hours last weekend and can honestly say it was more comfy than I expected, I am no petite chap, so it did surprise me. i did notice the legs got a bit more tired going down long technical hills, going to have to ride looser down hills, I have been spoilt with the stumpy and how it goes downhill
  12. that is a big problem, not sure if I would call it a giant problem, but definitely not small problem
  13. Concidering there is a F1 car parked behind it, I am guessing not cheap!
  14. wow that is hot
  15. Thanks that is a great price! will contact him in the morning
  16. Thanks Fritz! maks the difference to see a shop owner getting personally involved
  17. if its a specialized the warranty will not be valid in SA as far as I understand and might be a mission to have shocks serviced, I am looking at the same thing at the moment, will let you know what I find.
  18. IF you dont mind me asking, how much was the bike insured for and what were your monthly premiums?
  19. I am looking at getting a Epic 29er, but not sure what size to go for. On my Stumpy I ride a medium (I am 1.75) but find I have the seat very far back and the bars raised quit a bit. I know for my hight I should ride a medium, just wondered if anybody else rides a larger frame on spez bikes than you normally would?
  20. I had a great program made by a hubber, I will find her contact details and pm you
  21. Many people never enjoyed last years race so it does surprise me the price is so high!
  22. No, should not get from creo. Is he taking any thermo's? like phedracut, ripped, animalcuts etc? all of the above sounds like he is spiking testos, normally a high cycle of testos is to blame for the pimples and irritation.
  23. what do we pay such high membership fees for!!!?>!!
  24. it blows my mind that people still ride to the farm! (I am not talking on the farm) how many warnings and incidents have there been in the last year or two? As Honda says : Stupid hurts!
  25. I saw there was pretty negative thread a while back about a Fritz Store, my experience was completely different. I purchased a frame from another store and went into Fritz to get prices for parts and ended up getting them to build it for me. This was not a brand I see stocked by Friz. The guys really went the extra mile to have my build done by the weekend, driving around collecting parts that were unfortunately not provided with the frame and working late on a friday to have the bike ready. Made such a good impression that I purchased another bike from them today (one of those funny looking things with the skinny wheels) I aways find these guys friendly, helpful and honest Thanks guys!
