  1. hehehe it looks like the police boss thinks it's perfectly acceptable to have criminals among them http://news.iafrica.com/sa/718871.html hope the guys recover soon. a national mountain bike database of some sorts? where you register you bike with the serial number? and you go report it stolen on there? and if you buy a bike, you go check against that? also maybe impossible to insure a bike if the national registry reports the bike as stolen? what would admin costs of something like this be?
  2. a friend took his son to the bmx track at teak place. he played there for a long time. when it was time to leave the kid burst into tears ... dad thought son was just too tired, but upon further investigation, the kid wanted to stay longer to play more he (son, not dad) promptly insisted on having his birthday party there
  3. play. i'm waaaaaay beyond 7 and still prefer playing to training, it's way more fun and it makes me want to go back for more.
  4. there were some excellent singeltrack, some boring bits on gravel road, some dragging bikes up mountains, and most excellent views. a very cool crowd and highly recommended ride (but do train a little bit before you go)
  5. go ride both. the trance's geometry sold it to me - it just want to do things, even if you dont want to - what a pleasure to ride.
  6. (the derrailleur hanger - don't know if that's the correct term?) while packing for trans lesotho, i found the dropout for the trance and the xtc looks the same - at least, i can't tell the difference. must i look any closer to make sure that i take the correct one, or are they really interchangable? or must i just take both to make sure i have one that fits when i need it? i tried to compare the dropouts with what's on the bike at the moment, but it's difficult to see differences with the derrailleur on the bike. anyone tried to fit the one's hangar on the other one? the trance is 2008, xtc is 2010.
  7. are you publishing something about your bike? do tell!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. i think they think she (who posted here) may be a he (who used to post here, but left) or something like that - i'm struggling to make head or tails, but it seems there was a mini-war last week when i was not here.
  9. how did it go, what bike did you take, did you enjoy the ride and will you be back?
  10. 21 2253 km in 88:22:53; 25.5 km/h
  11. where you off to? <and a bit curious about you'll be back to read the answers>
  12. i went through security this morning with an empty bottle in my bag (the one that i got at the argus last weekend) - on other side, realised i'm thirsty, filled the bottle up and no-one said a word about taking it on the plane ... bottle was in my heand when i went through boarding gate, then put it on the outside pocket of the camelbag when i went onto the plane.
  13. "I think the joBerg2c is taking mountain biking back to grass roots," wonder if the pun was intended?
  14. wwwwoooooowwwww
  15. or maybe the seeding was right, and they didn't belong in the faster group, and made the ride dangerous for themselves and for others. why not do a seeding ride or 2 and get that better seeding, if you really belong there?
  16. i remember pulling into a one-stop early one friday morning in bloemfontein, and radio oranje blaring out 'it's finally friday' to the tune of 'i did it my way' ... goosebumps! this year i'll be flying - drive safely!!
  17. very easy to understand why it's burry's favourite ride - or anyone's ... it's just so stunning out there, nice flowing tracks, technical stuff, the setting is so pretty - and if you get bored of MTB (if THAT is possible) you grab a tube and put it in the river a bit upstream.
  18. that's a date ... every once in a while i have to attend classes there ... will let you know ignore the trans-b posts, some teams have to cover the rear-end of the field and i'm more than happy to do it, as long as i can ride
  19. i'll be holding thumbs for you for that sub1000 - where you starting?
  20. haha bergleeu you know i'll only catch you if you let me! pity about mrs lion ... maybe she changes her mind before sunday, there's still time the borrowed bike is also cro-moly; it might be older than yours, we can compare notes (and bikes) afterwards if you'll wait at the finish. (that's one way of getting you to wait for me there) its just too much effort dragging my 'collection' to and fro with the added admin of books, laptop etc for the week afterwards. see you on sunday
  21. wow ! next time when i'm in stellenbosch area with my bike, would you go show me some of the routes???
  22. how long you want it to be. get a map at the entrance, there's dirt raods and singletrack, some more technical than others - and some with more climbs. the singletrack generally goes clockwise, on the dirtroad you could find plenty of shortcuts home if you're tired. if you have a small camera, take it with, there might be a good chance to see some game. edit on 'how long you want it to be': you can decide, 3 km, 5km, 20, and anything inbetween. or 2 laps at around 40 kays.
  23. on my commute i want to hear everything that's going on around me. on dirt, i like to listen in to the conversations going on around me.
  24. go ride it around before the argus. get a few buddies to go with you so that you can proctise handling hte bike, it's a little different from the one you're used to. also a bit more sensitive to cat-eyes and debris lying around, and i found the tubes far more difficult to change than mtb. slicks on your heavy MTB would go a long way, but a raodie bike would be faster if there's no accidents or flat tyres.
  25. are you perhaps r? gerda's r? ride2rhodes and joberg2c and duathlon r???
