  1. Black? That's so boring when you can have grey socks with dark grey flowers, or grey socks with dark grey mickey mice, or gray socks with dark grey bicycles ...
  2. The big advantage of washing your own socks is that you can ride in whatever you want. I have plenty of grey socks
  3. Unless I can log my commuting runs as 'commutes' - but that would be slightly unethical since this is a cycling hub and not a running hub Looks like Eddie has made his intentions for this year very clear!
  4. Hairy, thank you very much for the challenge and believing in me. The truth is that it got very hard to keep it up towards the end (I must thank you and Samson for keeping chasing) ... I can't see myself chasing the top guys again this year; I'm just too slow so the only way I could keep up was to ride for many hours a day, which was fun the first few months after JoBerg2C but is unsustainable in the longer run. It will probably be a very competitive year and I think the 10000 km may be broken before 1 December. Of course I will give it a go, but I think your real competition is going to come from Samson, Zub and 1 or 2 other commuters - the question is probably who wants it the most!
  5. Thinking of you. Hope 2020 treats you and your family well.
  6. ... and you got number 2 poster with a massive margin over number 3
  7. HI there, anyone knows if there was any further incidents in the Spruit after the shooting that injured one of the attackers? Safe to ride again?
  8. Yaaay we got second in most viewed https://community.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/industry-news/bike-hub-2019-year-in-review-r8028?source=topic
  9. Beautiful commute this morning. Holiday all forgotten as we're chasing some deadlines for 2020 - no winding down at these ofices! Anyway - only this afternoon and maybe tomorrow left for commuting this year. Thank you, ladies and gents of the Hub, for the motivation to keep cycling when the legs and head said otherwise. It was great!
  10. Thank you Managed to do a whole lot more kms than last year. There was a few moving goalposts - moved mostly by myself, I might add. First we had to get in resonable condition for JoBerg2C. When we were back, the aim was to try commute 200km per week for as long as we could - to maintain the J2C fitness gained with so much pain. Then the UweKoetter RiseTheChallenge came along, and because my commute is already very hilly, I found myself top half of that list before too long. The year is not over yet, however! Will have to wait and see if all those early winter mornings was enough.
  11. Glorious day in Gauteng after what felt like weeks of rain. Hoped to make full use of the better weather but alas! late nights, friend get-togethers, pantomimes, year end lunches, sprained ankles and all kinds of other things taking its toll on the time available. But even though short, it was great to be outside and alive this morning.
  12. Same here. Maybe because I spend so much less time in the car, so the impatience doesn't have a chance to build up. The 3rd taxi that cut in is just the third this morning, not the 30th this week or 300th this month. Also a slightly different view on the same routes - noticed this morning how green a particular tree-lines road is and what a nice wide pavement - and then realised I'm always seeing the same road from the pavement - still green, but from a different angle. But glad I'm more often on the pavement with my bicycle looking at the road, than on the road with my car looking at the pavement.
  13. Also took the car this morning - various pre-holiday admin errands, so the rain was a good enough excuse. I enjoyed listening to the morning radio and catching up on the CityofJoburg municipality shenanigans. But I forgot how slow traffic is and how many times you wait at the same traffic light. Hopefully back on the bicycle tomorrow.
  14. Thx Eddie You're also due for your 7000 - maybe this afternoon?
  15. I saw that and wondered how my OCD brain would have handled being 2 km short of a nice round number Samson should also get to 8000 before the end of the week - probably tomorrow.
  16. Lots of big numbers coming up. Rouxenator on your tail, should also get that 6000 this week. Hairy probably will clock his 8000th km this afternoon, and Silverrider should get to 4000 this week.
  17. I've got a solution for you: just ride shorter in, then you can be at the office earlier and get more done before you leave later
  18. Are there any news or rumours on how long ?
  19. Dude, you took the effort to log in and update 100 km, why would you not update the other almost 600 too? Just update, man.
  20. Should be doable. May not be easy. The graph shows the total kms recorded as commutes by the top 12 over the last 5 weeks - 4 of those were over 2000. Zub did a 5 day almost 300km commute and then followed it up with a 200km training ride over that weekend, and Samson commuted right up to the day before Wine2Whales, did the ride, and the very next day was back for a 'recovery' commute of around 80 for that day. So tapering / recovery for Double Centrury should have minimal impact on these numbers.
  21. Approaching 6000 - maybe this afternoon?
  22. Congrats Imploder on 5000
  23. Geeez, on a Saturday morning! It's a busy route ...
  24. Hi Cotic, do you have more details on the location?
