  1. The way you capetonians go on about safety on routes makes me think it’s safer to ride my bike up here in GP than down there.
  2. probably second sunday of march unless COVID changes it
  3. Thanks for this. Did not know about it, looks very useful
  4. yeah I'm not planning on doing any track specific disciplines, just thought it would be nice every now and then to have a safe environment to just ride with no gradients, traffic or traffic lights to get in the way. Going around in circles will probably get boring after a while, but it cant be worse than an IDT not linked to a "game"
  5. would you be frowned upon if you took a normal road bike around there ?
  6. had to look twice, at first I thought that was sweat on her shirt, then realised its a print
  7. After my first couple of races I switched to gels and carb drinks as I could not consume solid food on rides. I pretty much stuck to that formula for the last 20 odd years, but over the last 3 years I have pushed my fitness to levels above anything I have on record and have now found that I can consume "some" solid foods. Granted though its more on the longer easy rides where I'd prefer solid food over gels, but I'd never be able to munch down on biltong or peanuts whilst on the bike.
  8. another way to ask the worth of the bikes, what do they retail for in Europe ? We know an x euro bike would cost y Rands if bought from an SA retailer, so using that knowledge it might be easier to gauge if your prices are in the ball park for a grey import of that brand
  9. As per the above post, have a look at the CPA, from what I know, you will need to offer a minimum of a certain time period warranty on the bikes. I know with cars its 6 months, not sure if the same applies to bikes
  10. Thanks folks, I'll give it a skip this time around and consider them again when I'm more flush.
  11. he is/was a member of BikeHub too
  12. it is. they just want your details so they can spam you.
  13. Has anyone bought from them ? Whats the quality like ? whats the shipping like ? I got a couple of vouchers for them and was wondering if its worth it to order from them
  14. Just shook my head the other day leaving the youngest daughters school. Daddy pulls in with his H1 Bus, but he wants the first parking spot as you enter the parking, but that spot is occupied, so he stops and waits. Blocking the entire entrance, whilst there are easily 50 open bays all around. Plus that bay is probably the hardest for him to get out as the U turn he needs to do to get to the exit it very tight, so he'd have to do a 3 point turn, probably holding up more traffic. From next week they are on holiday (AGAIN) for a month, I will start my morning rides again and make it the wifes problem when they go back.
  15. when I was in IT support I taught myself to use my left hand to type and use the mouse as I had bad RSI in the right hand at a stage. Due to the nature of the work I'd often have a PC or server that I was configuring on my desk along with my regular PC, and would often have the one mouse in my left hand and the other in my right navigating them perfectly (although not at exactly the same time). Always got a chuckle out of the reaction from other folks. The using a mouse with the left hand was very beneficial as my more senior colleague was left handed and would always have the mouse(s) of servers etc on the left side.
  16. thanks, did not know that.
  17. am I the only one questioning how a hub and cassette are sliding off an axle on their own ? Someone educate me, should there not be some sort of locking mechanism to keep it in place ?
  18. Back in 2009 when I wanted a towbar for my german sedan Westfalia was the best options, even supplied the OEMs with towbars, so they know a thing or 2 about towbars. I'm sure they looked into the weights etc.
  19. last year (or was it the year before, cant recall now) there was a mommy who would drive out the complex across the road from teh school, then drive into the school to drop the kid off and then head back into the complex. I could only shake my head at the laziness. Actually for me it would be more effort to get in the car, drive the few hundred metres and drive back again than just walking.
  20. my eldest daughter school has a pretty slick drop off system with 2 lanes coming in from one gate and exiting at another gate. The problem comes in when mommy stops where ever she feels like it to let Susan get out the car and then hold up an entire 2 lanes of traffic.
  21. had it not been for one particular road I'd be encouraging my kids to ride to school, but at the time of the morning they would need to be on that road i would not like to be on it on a bicycle myself. Motorists turning a single lane road into 2 lanes and forcing the oncoming traffic almost into the gutter.
  22. I've had a particularly nasty week with school traffic last week. Its like people stop being able to think when they are dropping the kiddies off.
  23. wrong choice of wording on my part, it was 2 different densities of glass fibre, and if I recall also a sheet of squishy rubber. The egg cartons were inside the room, but not inside the wall if that makes sense.
  24. She's just upset she has to drive an Evoque, give her a break.
  25. not just in the deep south, on the far east too. I got hand gestures shown at me on Sunday morning because I dared to ride through a GREEN traffic light
