  1. and if that doesnt work then you did not use enough duct tape
  2. sound proofing is an interesting area. Many years ago we built my sister a sound proof booth for her audiology practice. This was in the days before Google. At first we used drywalling with two different density insulation foams on the inside and a rough finish on the walls. It wasnt good enough, we then went the egg carton route, covering the entire inside with egg cartons. Better but still not good enough. Eventually we called on an expert who recommended a few fixes, including a sheet of asbestos on the door. This worked and we got the booth SABS approved. The window was particularly interesting, 3 panes of double glazed glass with gaps in between the panes.
  3. you would be surprised at how advanced the CSIR is. My brother in law worked for them for a while (probably about 5 years ago) and some of the inside info suggests they are still doing well.
  4. see above, I got an email from them (even though I didnt enter). I've only done one race with them, it was postponed, twice (if I recall correctly), but they transferred my race entry to the new event. But, as mentioned by Frosty, communication is most certainly not in their top 10 strong points.
  5. My cousin and her sister are currently Bike packing through Scotland. I following the progress on FB, looks like despite the weather and the midges & horseflies they are having fun.
  6. and technically you can lock stolen cellphones over the air, yet thousands of them keep getting stolen. a) lack of will to actually implement what can be done b) perps would have a person that can jippo it anyway. c) they probably didnt know it was an e-bike until the battery ran flat and they struggled
  7. it does seem to look like some sort of over complicated locking mechanism for the axle bolt
  8. I got an email on tuesday to say they are postponing it and are looking at September / October.
  9. and that is the problem, in sport and in business. The people getting sent are not the ones that should be there, but they are sent as the guys that should be there are lower down the food chain and are not deemed worthy of being sent on the trip.
  10. The bold bit is the only bit I'm going to challenge. I'm very much a HTFU person, I've "just dealt with it", for the most part life functions just fine, but when the lemons life has been throwing at you turn out not only sour but also vrot, the rest of the ingredient for the lemonade have run out and nobody wants to buy whatever lemonade you have left over and those suicidal thoughts start running through your head, there are very few Fs to Harden Up and it takes a lot to get up from there. I know in my case that had I not had a wife that recognises the dark place I move into and shows me the love and care to get out of it I probably would not have pulled through. Not everyone is that lucky. It has taken me a long time to try and word the above to not seem like a snowflake. But this is why I get upset about actual snowflakes, making mountains over molehills when there are people out there dealing with real issues. I'm not saying these are not important issues, but I feel those that are publicly "triggered" by certain words are doing it more to be controversial rather than being genuinely triggered.
  11. a bad few months of sales has seen me not even having nespresso, I'm scraping by on instant Douge Egberts (or however they spell that)
  12. does the Jimny have enough power to overcome the added drag ? The Thule ones are well designed and are able to open both sides wich is cool. Space added depends on the size you get, but take into account weight limits on the car, roof rails and the box. A
  13. I cant get onto cyced from the work PC because the draconian wielder of internet censorship sword deems it in-appropriate content for us toddlers working here.
  14. I understood the email to mean only one particular brick and mortar store was closing down
  15. will definitely have impact on the tyres, not sure about the rest.
  16. I could argue on a technicality there, in hatchback form, it is both the base model and top spec model for SA. ????
  17. Have a look at any car ad, it’s always the top spec car advertised with the From price of the lowest spec version. but, if you are advertising x version of y bike, and your ad states x version, then put the correct pic.
  18. If it’s a newish XC60 it will stop you before you drive into a cyclist. (At least straight on, it won’t stop you wide swiping them though)
  19. At the time they were also doing roadworks on the highway, I think they were widening it, so it was chaos. we very quickly got new accommodation near the office.
  20. Many many years ago we needed to do a small project over a week at our Cape Town offices at Cape Town station. The company travel agent booked us into a guest house in Somerset west. 60km one way, then tells us it’s right next to Cape Town, only a short drive. not as bad as PE to EL, but certainly not right next door as she described.
  21. Bit of a chilly start but double layers of most things kept me nice a toasty, just my forehead that actually felt the cold. time constraints meant shorter ride than I wanted, but first ride on the road in 4 weeks, legs felt strong, heart rate was indicating I’ve lost fitness.
  22. Had a little chuckle to myself this morning. One of the back roads I use to work as a set of rumble strips, they are slightly higher than normal but if you take them at speed in a car they are hardly noticeable. This morning as I turn into the road I'm behind an Amarok decked out with aluminum canopy, roof rack complete with awning, gas bottle holder and other paraphernalia, we get to the rumble strips and he practically comes to a standstill to go over them. I was chuckling to myself thinking what does he do on corrugated dirt roads.
  23. one of the guys in my area that I follow on Strava posted his ride this morning, warmest -4 coldest -6 No thanks, I dont have the clothing or that.
  24. this is no yoking matter
  25. Everytime I read your updates I'm heartbroken. Your never give up attitude certainly puts other ailments into perspective. Cois you are always in our minds. Sterkte. Incidentally my elderly neighbour has also been going through chemo and radiation and what not over the last few years. 2 days ago I learnt that he had decided to stop with chemo and let nature takes its course. This was apparently in January already, but since stopping chemo he has put some weight back on, is not retaining water, can keep meals down and is feeling better over all. Obviously the disease is silently doing its thing inside him, but he feels that he would rather live fewer days comfortably than more days but being sick and weak.
