  1. pics ? I've been using 32gi for years, been riding a matt bike for a couple of years now. Never had an issue
  2. what vehicle ?
  3. depends on the length of the trip. Going down to CPT from JHB, very much worth it. Also depends on the vehicle
  4. damn. never considered fish hoek to be snake teritory, but I guess it does make sense having mountains on each side.
  5. not all of them
  6. is it technically legal to cycle on that road ?
  7. hopefully they've learnt a thing or 2 from last year and cover things up better
  8. this is once of the reasons we over specced. Running the essential office equipment it wont drain the battery as much, therefore shorter recharge times needed. At a later stage I could also add PV panels, this will allow much lower discharge rate during daytime loadshedding.
  9. you can still enter, although at an increase cost
  10. Done the trials and errors with a sedan. Remove both wheels (but as mentioned put brake blocks in). Lower the saddle. Anything that protrudes past the edges of the vehicle causes drag, you want to reduce these protrusions as much as possible.
  11. Half the price of other places makes me suspicious.
  12. Eish. To late now. And if you keep looking you'll never buy. One of the managers here has been watching the price on Takealot going down weekly, but wait to long and then there is no stock. B.T,W. I've never heard of techglobal, are they legit.
  13. I over specked it for its intended use, by wiring it in I wont go the whole house, perhaps another plug circuit to keep the alarm powered and one of the lights circuits.
  14. definitely makes you stronger carrying the extra weight. You can feel it if you do the same route sans backpack.
  15. There is nothing that is the length of full chappies with the same gradient. Jan Smuts might be similar to Suikerbossie (with much worse view and non existent spectators) But you'll be down 10% on power up here.
  16. 100% sure. I'm using an Apple Time Capsule as my router. And no I'm not buying a new router any time soon either. Again, we just dropped a big chunk of cash an a unit to power what we needed, not going to be adding additional backup units. Fibre and wifi are in the TV room next door. Since I'd like to add the TV to the setup running power from the inverter next door is the easiest option. I'll either go through the wall, or up into the ceiling and down again in the next room. But there is also enough slack on the fibre cable to move it, but that will still leave me with no power to the TV
  17. yes but still wont work with my router as my router takes 220v input.
  18. 1) after spending that amount on the inverter I'm not spending more on another backup power solution 2) wifi router takes 220v input I'll run the extension temporarily, and down the line either move the fibre and wifi or have a more elegant wired solution. This unit is big enough to run lights and TV if we need to, so might look at an easy way to wire it into the house.
  19. So after waiting and waiting and the guy not responding to messages the wife got fedup and started looking around. We landed up buying one of these from Takealot. Arrived yesterday. So far it looks decent and nicely put together. Left it charging the entire night (even though it indicated batteries are 100%, I decided to follow the instructions). Plugged the wifes laptop etc. into it this morning, I need to get an extension cord to get the wifi and fibre onto it, and will probably also add TV to it.
  20. Morne just a thought, you are looking at the shoes clipped in in non weight bearing form, would the soles not have some slight give when weighted and therefore make more contact with the rest of the pedal ?
  21. I found it did wonders for my fitness. 2 rides a day instead of one, once you're at work there is no option but to do the second ride to get home. Having a backpack with work clothing adds a bit more weight and drag so you're working harder. And its easier to justify the commute ride vs a training ride during the week. It also encourages you to ride in conditions you would not normally ride. I loved commuting by bike.
  22. I have honestly never done a race where I found I needed more water points than they had. Normally there are to many waterpoints. Toilets and dustbin are a different story though, never enough. As much as I like the traditional medal they can probably go and be replaced by something a little more useful, like Frosty's ride did this weekend with a chaincheck tool. Maybe a series of tools, like a collectable set. Once you've completed 5 events you have a complete matching set.
  23. @Frosty , did you have a shorter route this weekend ? what was participation like ? I have a feeling there is a gap being opened up, a handful of riders wanting longer events (150km and more), and then the majority that are looking for events around the 60-70km mark. 100km events therefore getting less interest. And this for various reasons as listed in this thread, time, zwift, other commitments, instant gratification etc.
