  1. Great pics, Mint Sauce and Kranswurm. Allways difficult to take good pictures there. Cederberg and the Cracks are special places to visit.
  2. Our baby boy turned 21 today. Years ago we were cycling close to a dam, many little streams leading into the dam, with wooden bridges over the streams. My son was in front and he took the wrong line over one of the bridges and went off the bridge into the stream. It is a bit of a shock to see your five year old just disappear in front of your eyes. I remember thinking what the f am I going to tell his mom. I got to the bridge and there he was, back on his feet allready , but covered in mud. His only complaint : Now I have to wash my hair again, and you know I don't like doing it. He know washes his hair regularly, but alas no longer cycles.
  3. And now I hear our next door neighbour's bicycle was also stolen from their garage yesterday.
  4. My Giant XTC Alliance disappeared from our garage earlier today in Eversdal. The bike looks similar to an Anthem but it is a hard tail. One reconisable feature is the paint flaking away at the head tube.
  5. That ain't no bunny in the road
  6. One option is the gravel rd from Melkhoutsfontein to the R325 to Gouritz, rolling hills, out against the wind and then head home with the wind at your back.
  7. Mr Legs

    Cricket......

Agree, Clarke was good (no, very good) but even his double hundred did not influence the series in the manner that Faf's heroics did.
  8. So you are saying that because TH admitted taking drugs it is OK to steal from him? Seriaaaas?
  9. I also uhmm ... start with travelstart, but I found that particularly booking flights to the USA, it is cheaper if you book from the States, using a US based travel agent. Why I do not know. Travelstart is good, but I would suggest to also go and see a local travel agent. They might have special deals etc.
  10. And Xmile Cycles in New Street, Durbanville
  11. I think that very few of the affluent cycle commuters do not come from a cycling (racing or just for exercise) background, and they do not cycle to work because they are too poor to afford to use other types of transport. Our cycling culture is to buy the best bike you can, not like in Holland where you buy a bike with the primary aim to commute. We would not want to be seen dead on those sit up and beg bikes. Too materialistic on the one hand and we do not have a culture of commuter cycling like the Dutch.
  12. It may be a long shot, but try the local high school, we stayed over in the skool koshuis a few years ago.
  13. Not a commute, but a pre work early morning ]ride. Piccie taken of Tokyo Sexwale's farm on the opposite side of the valley. We were just above Bloemendal Farm on the way to Majic.
  14. Reasons: 1. Your lower back and bum remains covered, a good thing in winter or for the rider in your slipstream. 2. No need to adjust the family jewels, they stay secure 3. No risk that your shorts will get stuck behind the saddle 4. Reduces risk of chafing That said, I do like the baggies, never had problems with Indola. Nothing gives me greater pleasure that going past a well dressed roadie, wearing my baggies and riding in the gravel on his left.
  15. Jeez Mr Ras I will not bother if I was in your position, next thing he wants someone to pedal on his behalf. Better to do the ride with 10 cyclists you know and have trained with than having to spend the day with a free loader.
  16. Tell us what other cycling books you have read.
  17. Armstrong is a doper, get over it and move on.
  18. I think that he gives a honest account, but disagree with Grumps, Hamilton would not have been so forthcoming had he never been caught.
  19. I challenge you to read the the book and tell me if you still have the same opinion and if you do, please tell me where you think Hamilton did not tell the truth. If you don't want to spend the money on the book, pm me your postal address and I will send you my copy.
  20. Thank you for all the replies, they were sorted by Olympic. Crown Cycles seems a good choice too, 3 out of 5 responses in their favour.
  21. A buddy of mine from Gauteng is in Newlands C T and needs a bike shop in that area to attend to a problem with his MTB. The disk brake was damaged during the flight. Any suggestions as to shops that will be able to help him tomorrow morning?
  22. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Your damages: Medical and related costs will be a claim by yourself via an attorney against the Road accident fund, the driver of the car is not involved here, you have to initiate the claim. The damages to your bike and equipment is a claim against the driver. If your stuff is covered by your short term insurance, you file the claim with them. They will pay you and might try to recover from the driver. If you are not insured, get quotes and send it to the driver and ask nicely that he reimburses you. If he does not pay, you can also see an attorney or you can claim via the small claims court. I am not sure what the maximum amount is that one can claim there, it use to be R 7000.00, but it might be higher.
  23. I struggled for about 10 minutes to log on, perhaps today being Friday and also end of the month seem to overload the capacity.
  24. I used the insulation tube (neoprene?) available at Cape Union Mart on Kili, but the water in the tube froze, not even blowing back every now and then was enough, too cold.
