  1. A non-medical opinion: Could the morning cough be a result of deep breathing of cooler morning air, just after you've left the warm air in your house? Especially if breathing through the mouth?
  2. Didn't see a single OTB or near miss on the Pick up Sticks section and it looked like there was lots of room to get front wheel / back wheel out of sync there. Those pros have serious skills, they're not just lean XC greyhounds. The men and women. Also think an improvement for a next time would be some more grandstand platforms at the main features, even if only 2 or 3 steps high.
  3. Great to see guys with such skills whizzing by up close. And Nino is a cycling machine: about an hour and a half after the finish we drove past him and 2 Scott/Sram mates coming back on the Jonkershoek road, probably doing a quick 20km cooldown ride.
  4. https://worldcupstellenbosch.com/ For schedule and course layout and parking.
  5. Let her run for the fun and enjoyment. If she (you?) is serious about proper training then it would be better to get her a professional coach who can make sure she doesn't hurt herself or affect her development. And who can keep the running fun for a 10 year old kid. My opinion.
  6. The seller should also want a mutually satisfactory transaction. If he insists on being intransigent, then publish your communications with him. Then he is named and others can judge for themselves whether he deserves shame or whether you should just suck it up. Keep the legal action for Giant for making stuff with oddball dimensions. Didn't they also have smaller diameter seatposts?
  7. I'm waiting till gravel bikes come out with Boost.
  8. It's a composite material of the actual carbon fibres, that give the strength, and a resin binder. Deterioration would come from damage to the fibre-resin bond (like crash impact shattering the resin or causing delamination) or deterioration of one of the 2 components of the composite. Deterioration of the resin is more likely, by say high temperature. The carbon fibres don't degrade easily. Share genes with diamonds. Your grandkids will still be riding your Carbon bike. There was an interesting article about eco friendliness of CF versus Alu on Pinkbike I think.
  9. Wow, awesome job Runner moms and Extreme lights! I saw all the bags lying by the road and could not believe that so much trash was lying around. Bit of an indictment of Cape Nature, MTO Forestry, and the local community that they let the surroundings deteriorate like this.
  10. Would the Titan Skyrim be a bit too low on your food chain?
  11. Yoh, I have never even considered jumping that rock! Respect. Thought it was for practicing rolling over obstacles...
  12. I also use about 90ml in a 2.3 29er tyre. Makes a nice gentle sloshing sound when spinning the wheel... Tyre and rim width affect the surface area over which the sealant is spread. So wider tyres require more sealant. There are some vague guidelines on the Stans bottles iirc. How much is too much? Dunno, apart from the extra weight thing, there could also be some interesting physics effects due to the inertia of the free liquid inside a rotating body. If you take it to extremes.
  13. I'm with Myles's earlier comment, don't see the need for Boost on an XC-marathon bike. Especially on the front end. Inappropriate application of technology. You could find yourself tempted into 30mm internal width rims with Maxxis DHF tyre. Ok if you want to do weight training or enduro, but Top Fuel 9.9 is an XC racing machine!
  14. Karl Platt, good human. Just doing the right thing. Great to have people like him in mountain biking.
  15. Sounds like a great adventure! I can't offer any advice, except to recommend Riaan Manser's book Around Africa on My Bike, if you haven't read it already.
  16. Squirt, usually applied evening or couple hours before. Going to give the candle wax method a try sometime, method as described by ozcyclery Youtube guy. I like his semi-scientific methods.
  17. Aaaah vark!! Nasty. Best wishes for the recovery. (You going to share the morbid details? Where, what were you doing, did you ride home...)
  18. Noshow, a Jonkershoek SRA patrol vehicle makes its turn at the Jonkers parking area every 30 mins or so and is pretty good at chasing riffraff away. Just don't you now come play doof-doof music after your ride! Night rides are awesome. Enjoy.
  19. For 11spd, you could go with the Sunrace 11-46 cassette for a smoother jump to the granny. That's a really low granny... but Sunrace also have an 11-50 if you want to go off the lowness scale. I imagine that would definitely need some derailleur mods. For 10spd, Sunrace also have an 11-42. Haven't come across 11-44 either. Evobikes have a good listing of different cassettes on their website.
  20. bike Sjoe, was getting roff there for a minute, glad you guys patched (no pun intended) this up, thought a very public divorce was coming.
  21. Looks ready for action with those fat tyres. Would also be a good contender in the Black Bikes Only thread.
  22. Building: It's all about the chase, the hunt for the components you want, discovering others along the way that you hadn't heard of before. Anticipating their arrival, taking off the bubble wrap, admiring them. Its almost disappointing when the bike is built and it's over. You'll likely want to do it again. But different this time, maybe a 29er trail machine with 180mm rotors front and back. Or a fat bike just for fooling around. Building is the best way to learn about bikes and demystify them. There really is nothing difficult to screwing in (or pressing in if that's how your frame works) a BB. And a headset is just some fancy branded bearings and washers. Buying: Cheaper. Instant gratification.
  23. Eish, that's disappointing. Thanks for the feedback. Hope a fix comes along.
  24. You could also check with a bike fitter what should theoretically be right for you. I'm 1.9m, wide shoulders and my 760mm bars feel fine on everything I ride (mostly trails, typically 1 to 3 hour rides), except long, flat, boring sections where aero bars would be nice.
  25. ... I was thinking of Panorama, wrong place but also has great spot for fishing and swimming, sorry if I lead anyone off the garden path.
