  1. Love how stoked that Bora guy looks!!
  2. Thanks for posting. Very clear photos, nice job.
  3. In the photos, Nino and Lars are there when he crossed the finish line. Nice touch from the champs.
  4. This is just barbaric. Glad you are unharmed.
  5. Craig, enjoy Jonkershoek, but it's very different to Gspot, especially as you climb higher on either side of the valley. Above the second contour expect loose stones, rocky drops, off camber turns, steep drops next to the trail, no chicken runs. Gspot is a skate park, the upper slopes of Jonkers are proper mountain bike riding.
  6. Using thin unpadded gloves helped me after similar problems with numb pinky and ring fingers, also after CTCT. Specialized also have/had a glove with more padding in the centre of the palm to address this problem. Didn't try them though ($$$) so can't comment on effectiveness. And the Spez also have ergo type grips previously mentioned. I believe most Spaz shops also offer bike fit service. No affiliation to them, but some of their products are genuinely good.
  7. Good job for trying this. The best part is spending active time with your kid and engaging with them. Rather than nose in phone or TV. 10 points for making Dads cool.
  8. Would never happen in SA - the truck immediately stopped. But probably only to d0nder the cyclist...
  9. Just a headsup if you're planning to ride up the road into Jonkershoek: major roadworks are in progress with stop-go in place from bottom of Lanzerac hill (the end of Stellenbosch town) to just before Oude Nectar. One lane closed, and being chewed up by roadwork machines. Looks like they will be busy for a couple of weeks (I don't know official duration). Should not affect MTB riders too much, particularly as the shoulders have been graded. But take care if you're planning a road bike ride into the valley. The single open lane is too narrow for bikes and cars to mix. The closed-off lane is presently rideable in sections but has patches where the asphalt has been stripped and this activity looks like its progressively moving along the road. Maybe consider a different route for your Sunday morning road-bike ride.
  10. "Primary requirement is to improve control" Wider, and grippier, tyres will go a long way to improving control on trails.
  11. A few years ago the doctor gave me medication for suspected pneumonia with the strict warning "No exercise, or you'll snap your Achilles tendon", known side effect of the pills. The medication cleared up my lungs very quickly but I hardly moved for a month out of fear.
  12. Was this a Friday comment? 'Family' permits usually mean your actual family. Otherwise it would be called a "Group" permit. Don't ruin it for everyone else by trying to cheat the system for the price of a couple of pizzas. There are lots of awesome trails to ride in Jonkershoek. Keep it that way, pay your share.
  13. +1 Or ProNutro. My kids will help apply.
  14. Saw all the nice Thule racks on the back of cars parked there by the Gym this morning and made a comment to my daughter about the thieving at events. My car was stolen during O of T 3 years ago. Although not from event area. *** feeling, coming back to where you left your car/bike and finding an empty spot. Sorry OP.
  15. Can also try patches used for porta pools or inflatable plastic kiddies pools. Almost like thicker sellotape. Sportsman's warehouse used to have.
  16. My Ryder Centauri is still going strong after 5+ years, although not much use in past year apart from use in the house when Eskom is out. If you want DIY option, or versatility, you can also look at strapping a LED Lenser torch to your bars. I think they do have mounting adapters for bars as well as Gopro type. They don't lie about their lumens. Try the MT14.
  17. Specialized Ambush fits my head. The vizor is a functional size and adjustable. But chin strap only adjusts for length, can't adjust the shape of the "Y" around the ears, if you know what i mean.
  18. There were protests this evening. Still ongoing. A stun grenade or two came echoing up the valley. Rather avoid the road into Jonkershoek if you were planning an early morning ride on Wednesday. Rumours of damage to forestry contractor's equipment in the reserve. Lot of tension between local community and MTO.
  19. I'm with Noshow, check the indexing first. Couple twiddles of the barrel adjuster should prove or eliminate that as poss problem.
  20. The new silent killer on the streets, doo-du, doo-du, doo-du https://www.iol.co.za/motoring/bikes/e-bikes-the-new-silent-killers-on-our-streets-17095375
  21. @Chingy182: Mind sharing what greasegun you bought and where from? I'm thinking I should also get one sometime.
  22. Thanks for posting. I like e13's innovation and willingness to take on the big guys.
  23. + 1 for dates, +2 for de-pipped dates stuffed with an almond instead and then dipped in chocolate. Mmm. Pick them up at the duty free in Dubai.
  24. We've got a 24" Hotrock in the fleet, about 8 years old so not sure how current my comments are. But its a solid well put together bike, we are the third owners. Reasonably light too. I think previous dad upgraded the shifters as they are trigger shift now. Gripshift is worst idea for kids, ever. Coincidentally we "serviced" the fork yesterday. Strip, degrease and relubed the springs/coils. Suntour XCT. But the spring is still way too stiff for a 30kg kid. The preload adjuster doesn't make much difference.
