  1. @Jo1803! a quick search of this forum will show the GOOD history of @RobertWhitehead He has a passion for building bikes. MANY Hubbers are riding with his bikes. Certainly the only person I will second hand from "site unseen" .... @SilverRider and @Scary Rider can tell you of the various bikes in their stable that comes from Robert. NEW .... Titan Racing offers very good value for money. (just avoid those pesky sram sx models) The bike industry is still in over-supply after the 2022/23 bubble .... you will see MANY shops selling 2023 and 2024 models, still brand new, at heavily discounted prices. If you do your homework there are some very good deals out there.
  2. Thanks for the heads up .... Every so often I do longer rides with friends .... an eyeopener when they are battling on those hills back into Durbanville and an e-biker flies past fresh as a daisy ..... @JJDT did these extra batteries look like oversized battery bottles ? Lots of e-bikes are now sold with relatively small batteries, with the design to add these "water-bottle" batteries in the frame plugged into the system. Looking at the battery use, you may well need two of these extra batteries for these longer road events. Very costly setup. (purely talking about the batteries, not IF these bikes were de-restricted ....) @RobynE 🚵‍♀️ & @NotSoBigBen .... sadly the few spoiling it for the rest .... you may well enjoy my braaifire talk about some of these moto-racers .... @The Ouzo ..... I had a similar experience on Suikerbossie this year. I stopped in Houtbay, at Seattle for coffee (history to this habit), reasonably fresh battery ... So I was doing a fair speed up Suikerbossie, just slow enough not to upset @RobynE 🚵‍♀️ ..... next moment a lady on Trek comes past at more than 30km/h .... few seconds later a gent came flying past as if he was trying to catch up, shouting abuse to one and all that dared obstruct his way ..... THIS flicked my switch !! Full boost, three hard kicks, had a short talk to him about proper cycling behaviour .... joining these rides on an e-bike is a privaledge, dont spoil it for everybody !!! de-restricted e-bikes .... pretty sure my thoughts on this is well documented .... go ENJOY it on your own. There are clear rules for these rides, if for nothing else, for the safety of ALL riders. Time and a place for everything ....
  3. WELL DONE !! These will be long term memories ....
  4. Easier to loose bike/car weight ...😋
  5. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.parktool.com/en-int/blog/repair-help/rear-derailleur-hanger-alignment&ved=2ahUKEwjn4quhh8WQAxX3XEEAHSmeHP4QFnoECBsQAQ&sqi=2&usg=AOvVaw21ZjLEWfuWmiyPtdYFMigO Your local bikeshop has this tool and can TRY to straighten the hanger. Let's hope the hanger is just bent and not damaged. They will then also check the derailure for possible damage
  6. Where are you based, to point you the shops in your area ? You will hear the following brand names in the recommendations: - Titan Racing (been the bench mark for a good few years) - Avalanche (they are making a hard push to get back into the kids market) - CWC / Cycle Lab ... they have "house brand" options as well - Various bike shops accross SA also fight for this market. Sorry, but this feedback would be incomplete without this (yes, not 16") - https://www.specialized.com/za/en/hotwalk-carbon/p/216961?color=349842-216961&searchText=94022-0012 jokes aside, they have some slightly more affordable options as well (decent 16" option) ... https://www.specialized.com/za/en/riprock-coaster-16/p/221626?color=367539-221626&searchText=96523-4316
  7. Nice commute .... too busy having a blast to stop for photos, sorry.
  8. Have a look at the SANS standard for "motor vehicles" I posted earlier. "pedal assist" is legal, both by electric and internal combustion .... LIMITED to: - 250 W - 25km/h maximum assist speed We both come from the 50cc era, so we know this 70cc engine exceeds 250W. Knowing and proving aint the same thing though .... not until the pudding hits the fan and facts do gets checked .... 25km/h max assist .... knowing our 50cc's topped 100km/h .... I would want a refund if this gets stuck at 25km/h .... oops, wait, sorry .... legal limits and all that .... Buyer be ware ..... might be a nice toy on a farm. Just know your potential exposure when using this in town .... not judging at all, we each make our own informed choices.
  9. Which is why I flagged the "importers liabilities" .... When, not if, the accident happen and the correct questions gets asked .... heaven forbid a family member is a semi-awake legal person .... "the importer" CAN be left with a problem.... though we know our legal system most probably wont prosecute, a private legal team has a pretty good case ....
  10. @Zebra might have something for you at his shop
  11. want hulle KAN .... enough dentists that dont play golf ...
  12. "Road legal" ????? We seem to be reading different versions of the SANS codes ..... or at the very least you are treading a VERY fine line of the defenition of a "motor vehicle" as noted in (iii) ... Worth noting the liability of the "importer" as noted higher up the same document. See attached ..... popcorn time .... Gazette 10 December 2024.pdf
  13. Nothing worse than buying the "best" .... just to be outdone like this .... 😋 https://youtu.be/t3MxYZSr6jA?si=rH5X2Zlvzio1RHX9
  14. @Titan Racing Bikes
  15. Expected time of use .... heavily dependent on genetics and growth spurts. Maritz got his 20" as soon as he could fit on it. 13 months later he was comfortable on a 24". The 26" was a project, so we started early, knowing he one of the taller kids in his age group ... and then he "got stuck" at 2cm too short for some 5 or 6 months. When the next growth spurt hit I could not adjust the saddle height fast enough. At 14 he is already taller than me .... ja ja ... ek is n kortgat. All that said, the 20" was grabbed up by a Hubber. So the cost of ownership was okay. The 24" was traded in on 26" Titan, again fair cost of ownership. The 26" is not a good "investment", I went bos with a 1x upgrade ... so the parts are worth more than I can every realistically ask for the bike .... so it hangs in the roof as a future parts donor.
  16. Thou doth protest too much ... 😛
  17. Dont recall any last year either.
  18. Once a structure "shows damage" the dominoes line up : - Does it pose a risk to anybody ? - It MUST be repaired, at least to the extent that the risk is negated. - the scaffold specialist has to sign off that the structure is "fit for purpose". - only once the organisers have this in hand can it be sent up the chain to update the approvals process for the event to proceed. Simply no way, under our current set of by-laws, where all of this was going to happen between the wind calming down and the starting time. As posted earlier .... reduce the structures and banners (wind sails) to an absolute minimum !! My friends who were already at the start came back and did their own 21km route.
  19. Mechanical disck is more than good enough Suspension fork ... just add a LOT of weight. The one in his colour is more important than the brand ..... from a Titan Racing fan. Seems Avalanche have seen the value in this market and have stepped up their game.
  20. @Kokkie2025 if you are buying from out of town, use Bike Hub Pay. short version; . Your money goes to Bike Hub . They confirm to the seller that the money is actually paid and ready. . The seller sends the bike. . Post delivery you have 2 days (check exact time) to check out the bike and confirm it is as advertised ... . The money is released and paid over to the seller. . It the bike is "not as advertised" ... you can cancel the deal amd send it back, your money is returned by Bike Hub. DISCLAIMER - Search for the exact wording, as this was typed from memory In short, this protects the seller from fake payments, just as it protects buyers from fake adds ...

  22. There are a couple of bike traders that grab up bikes in this price range .... expect to see these same bikes to be posted again next week, now in the 30k range .... Post a WANTED on the classifieds ... there are Hubbers that do prefer seeing the next owner getting a decent deal
  23. @DieselnDust spoke about bikes and specs in his post race thread....
