  1. Uhmmmm ... uhmmm ... YES .... Morne in front, then @SilverRider (Lady 2 ... same height as 1) is the stoker .... on a normal tandem. They start at 7:00, so if you spot them give a shout out to the Potch-train.
  2. I took a minute on my phone and did a screen grab of BOTH my race entry notice, as well as my Drivers. Showed this and walked straight through. Also used this at the registration table.
  3. Afdraende al die pad Kaap toe ...
  4. The Potch train has arived 😋. Well, the first peleton. The rest flew in last night 👍
  5. On Friday the shoe guys were in TWO spots. 1 at the Clicks screening entrance 1 in the cross isles.
  6. When I got there I was told it might be a 45 minute waiting period. A while later a friend went through in 5 minutes Certainly a good idea, and a LOT of people doing it.
  7. That sucks !!! I have had a situation where the card machine was off line ... since then I always have cash in my cell phone cover.
  8. Sunday .... let's see ... 🤣 Right now ... PERFECT WEATHER 😍
  9. Welcome to everyone that is traveling to Cape Town for the CTCT. May one and all have an incredible weekend.
  10. It does NOT. No more substitutions. At least not according to the CTCT information sent out this week. Only way now is to give your entry and your Finish Time board to somebody .... which is "not allowed for" in the rules
  11. Big thumbs up to the Hubbers that will be doing this for 109km. @Me rida my bicycle you guys are angels 👍
  12. Similar experience My FR35 went wonky, and was promptly replaced. The 530 was physical damage, certainly not a Garmin issue. Touch wood
  13. Welcome and ENJOY it. In reverse order : . You want to be at the Parade (Castle) about 30 minutes before your starting time. . Park 30 minutes before that, giving time to get ready and cycle to the start point. . CTICC parking deck 2 is a very handy and safe spot to park. No issues driving in to park. You will see MANY others in this parking area, so you can just follow the flow to the start. . Mostly downhill from the finish back to the parking. Again, MANY cyclists to follow back to your parking.
  14. That sucks. Gotta love your punch line though.
  15. Worth speaking to them, but I do believe they only handle items bought from them. Sadly you are down to sending it to Garmin yourself ...... and waaaaaaiting those three weeks, then a few more emails. Couple of Hubbers do have the right email addresses .... @Johnny82 And then the lottery of how they want to deal with it.
  16. They must have some very good value for money options to keep popping up .... Just 10 seconds on google and frankly I would rather buy a new entry to mid level @Titan Racing Bikes than risk a second hand bike, unless you KNOW how to properly check out a secondhand bike.
  17. Okay, so you already know the basics. Enough good replies already. NEW - up your budget about 15k. (thats the short version after spending weeks helping a buddy search for a new bike under 10k) SECONDHAND - absolute lottery .... in theory you CAN get a very nice bike. In reality you can get a lemon thats going to end up costing a LOT of money .... Few things to check (many threads about this already) - take a chain checker ... a stretched chain is an expensive drive drain replacement, walk away - check the tyres, especially if it is "tubeless ready". Also check if it is cracked (old and perished), dont get drawn in just by how much tread is left - remove the chain, spin the crank .... it spin quietly .... now turn it gently through 180 degrees and FEEL the bearings. This is a cheap fix item, but tells you how the bike was looked after .... did it go swimming, was it pressure washed, etc .... and gives you some idea of the condition of the other internal moving parts. - Remove the front wheel and feel the bearing movement ... - with the front wheel off, now feel the neck bearings Certainly not fool proof, but really should be minimum checks done. And PLEASE, dont fall for "it was recently serviced" .... that was the worst lemon we ever bought !!! Last thought .... Argus is almost done .... winter is almost here .... lots of new entrants onto the secondhand market coming soon.
  18. There is ONE way to correspond with Garmin SA. Send you unit in to Garmin, ideally via the shop where you bought it. (SportsmansWarehouse and CWC have been excellent at this). Be sure to properly describe the "issue". As obvious as this sounds, I saw a gent handing in a Garmin unit, and all he kept on saying was "the unit is faulty" ... no amount of questions could get him to say WHY he thinks it is faulty. Heaven alone knows what he expected from Garmin. I walked up, showed a print of my heart rate, which apparently spiked over 200 for a long period (while doing a relaxed ride with the 7 year old). Gave them the event data. They booked it in, and it was promptly replaced. It takes 2 to 3 weeks to get an answer. 1. Under warrantee ... you get a new boxed unit 2. Out of warrantee .... Lottery .... possibly a refurbished unit, most likely an amount you pay in on a new unit. Again, this is where SportsmansWarehouse is simply superb ... they get the reply from Garmin, you pick up a unit at your nearest SW .... or like I did, pay in on the next model up. Sending it in yourself ..... lives tooooo short for this .....
  19. Hiehie .... you are obviously correct. Add in school exams, long weekends, etc, and the weekends where you can draw a crowd narrows down significantly. As much as I understand all that .... I often look at the Worcester MTB races ... 80% of the races in the span of a few weeks. Financially, family, etc, it would really make sense to spread these out a bit .... PLEASE bring back Fine Breede race .... pretty please.
  20. Why ? Seriously, the friends that ride SA's are not too worried about the weekend stuff.
  21. Point taken, except Carlo is exactly like you when it gets to washing, waxing and then the claybar ... he takes damn good care of his stuff.
  22. Another, probably more pertinent question - Who are the go to bike mechanic workshops in Paarl ? If he was closer I know it would be Knipe_Racing or Marks Bike Workshop (which ever is closer)
  23. Over the years I have bought bikes, new and second hand, from various bike shops. I have always been offered a "free service" ... bring the bike back in a few hundred km, let us check the brakes and gears .... A friend bought a new hardtail from a "concept store" in Paarl, about 5 weeks ago. Doing 2 or 3 rides a week, distances creeping up from 8km to 20km per trip. And so the day came that the gears does not shift as smoothly .... he takes it back to the "concept store" .... "wash lube and set gears" .... That will be R300 sir. What is the norm these days ? Well I KNOW that D'Ville cycles delivered my gravel bike in December and said I can bring it back for a FREE check up after a few hundred km. So again I am wondering, what is the norm these days between the various bike shops, uhmm sorry ..., "concept stores" ? Maybe the owner of this particular concept store will reply to this thread .... he is a Hubber.
  24. As long as you are in control of the steering amd the brakes .... and the stokers stress levels ....
  25. Aaaaaannnndddd ... Stereotypes amd Rouxtjies law be damned ... Member for 1 week 1 add What a gentleman. Straight up add. Trust he will get a 5 star rating.
