  1. And here I thought us "Middle-Aged-Men-In-Lycra" would stick together .....
  2. Hi JP How time flies .... I had to dig deep into the archives for these photos. With any luck we can gett some better pics on Sunday IF I can catch up to you ... If you do see me, please shout out. Would love to meet up again.
  3. Uhmmm ... just for clarity Are these the "health checks" (term has changed a bit over the years) as part of the MEDICAL AID you are referring to ? ALL Discovery Health medical aid members get this benefit - IF they decide to use it. Only frustrating part is that you have to READ their documents and actually activate these benefits .... shame on me for not doing this last year. Had some blood work done last week, one of the items was on the "health check" list and was paid by Discovery Health. This is NOT dependent on Vitality membership. Discovery Medical aid is actually a pretty decent medical aid. The complains on this thread is typically about the moving goal posts of Vitality.
  4. Hubbers on the 4x4Community forum will recall the same type of thread popping up there every so often. It is just part of the passing nature of social media.
  5. Stuff the bookies 🤪 Sure, even CTCT restricts ebikes to a maximum starting group. Keeping a safe distance between the ebikes and the racers halfway around the route by then. But at least each rider then rides with his level, as good as any seeding can achieve. Blanket "start at the back" ... cycling industry have matured beyond that .... clearly PPA has not. Los n bitter smaak in die kiewe. I enter a seeding event, but my current seeding counts ZERO .... Emotional rant over .... my seeding should have seen me start in G or H (still way too far back to influence the race). That is some 6 or 8 minutes earlier .... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Now to see who rocks up for this race .... am I about to navigate traffic to move up 10 or 15 spots .... OR .... is this the junior racers that will dissapear around the corner while I try to start my Garmin ... 🫣

  7. Climbs .... You are going to do a fair few shorter climbs before reaching the M3. After Simonstown ... Smitswinkel .... you will see a good number of bikes being pushed. I love the next section... After Misty cliffs there is a short nasty little hill. Chappies ... Brief moment to catch your breath, then Suikerbossie. Now you can use what energy you have left and give it stick on the way back. Whats is easy ? Where can you make up time ? .... all depends on the wind on the day .... There is enough time to enjoy a relaxed cruise around the Cape ! ENJOY 👍👍
  8. Same as I said to a friend doing his first. Watch your heart rate. Take it slow and steady ... use the granny gear. Keep something in reserve for Chappies and Suikerbossie. The biggest "danger" is getting caught up in the moment and burning matches too early. Depending on your fitnes and experience ... break it up into 2 or 3 shorter races. Stop for a drink and a snack, stretch your legs, then enjoy the next bit.
  9. So why do any PPA seeding events ? Last time they get one cent from me.
  10. They sent a LONG email yesterday. It shows all the groups from 6:30 to 7:00. Saw the ebikes are relegated to the BACK ... sorry, dit not concentrate on the details up front.
  11. From another relative newby. DONT get caught up in racing ... ride YOUR pace. Conserve your energy. Dont burn your matches too early. CTCT has MANY water points ... BIG water points. You need no more than a small water bottle, if you want to top up at these water points. Dont change your feeding too much for a single race. Stick with the snacks/energy bars/muffins that your stomach is used to. You are not doing a stage race, no need to get too deep into the science of quick recovery foods/drinks. A bottle of Energade sipped over the duration of your ride will be sufficient for your electrolytes, and even provide a measure of energy. MANY riders actually stop once or twice along the route to meet with family or friends and have a drink or eat at a local establishment. I normally stop at Seattle in Houtbay. Above all .... ENJOY THE VIBE !!
  12. I switch out between the HT and FullSus when commuting. HT with the carrier is very "convenient" FullSus .... FUN !! Curb hopping, bit of detour to include some trails on the way home ....
  13. As this is a CYCLING forum ... not some auto-trader site .... 😛 Are you still on crutches ?
  14. Is the HT destined to be a commuter ? I have a carrier on my commuter. Got lucky and bought a canvas bag that velcros onto carrier. Nothing on my back is just SO much better !!! On the odd occasion I have to use a back-pack ... certainly thee worst part of commuting. Spare shoes at office helps. Spare undies at work for those days you ride in cycling pants and only pack your pants and shirt ... 🤣 Towel and wash cloth stays at work, as does a can of deodorant.
  15. I was about to point out that the owners of the Bike Hub have made it clear over the last few years that the "forum" is not a profitable entity. It is on the classifieds where they make the business model work. You make an interesting point. Your "forum" name suggests you are a BUSINESS ... yet it shows you are a MEMBER. Uhmmm ... so many questions .....
  16. Couple of very good dealers and specialists that spend a few minutes a week to provide excellent value. It does not have to take hours out of a busy schedule.
  17. Those flags .... cyclists know the effort ... Love the Banhoek Padstal
  18. A buddy wanted to get into cycling ... bought a 2nd hand HT .... bit of a lemon .... I used a LOT of my parts to rebuild the bike. 6 weeks later he sells the bike and buys a FS .... As you say ... his bike to do with as he pleases ..... Still, I am less likely to donate my good parts for the next help-a-buddy-project ......
  19. Not mine. Saw this good looking bike at the Banhoek padstal today. Spoke to the owner, lady at retirement age. Chinese frame she brought in a few years back, and built up the bike over a few years. The photo does not do it justice .... GOOD looking !!
  20. Hi Chris The Darrvin has 500W.h batteries, good for about 70km each, on a good day. Using more assistance into the South-Easter the range drops quickly. Thus I carry two spare batteries for long rides. It is a "bucket" with space for two spare bateries that velcros in place. For commuting this is removed and have a canvas bag that attaches to the rack. Typically I use 1 and half for the CTCT, but nice to know I dont have to worry about range if the wind decides to mix it up on the day. Testing the theory of 70km/battery I have done a 202km ride with this setup .... deksels ,,, my boude was seer gesit, but the batteries lasted well and could have gone even further. With the 99er, I was doing a battery swop in 31 seconds, total non-moving time.
  21. Thank you 👍
  22. Have a look at the Vitality thread. From January 2025 Zwift is no longer on the Vitality list. Basically your options are: 1. Parallel record session on Garmin 2. Edit the fit file ... https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/155595-discovery-health-vitality-team-vitality-plus-everything-else-you-need-to-know/page/663/#comments https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/194583-zwift-syncing-with-vitality/page/2/#comments
  23. TANDEM QUESTION Do you get one or two race boards ? Seems the Potch train wants to double-team us ....
  24. LOTS of MTB's doing it 👍
  25. Possibly just because they deal with the racers first. Mid fielders, on a good day, like me probably get done a bit later.
