  1. Sadly crossing the North South devide is more about running the muggers gauntlet than surving the traffic ... thougb there most certainly are a few spots that are not exactly cyclist friendly
  2. R44 most certainly not a freeway. Actually very few freeways in the Western Cape: N1 N2 N7 M3 M5 R300 Probably a few more, but these are the obvious ones
  3. @Mamil @Jbr and a few others will soon chip in and tell you all about the vast network of gravel roads
  4. Welcome to the Hub. Thanks to you and @Prince Albert Cycles people like me are still middle-aged ... Have a look at "Southy Vines". Nice spot to keep the wheel rolling.
  5. You are "younger" than most of the Prince Albert visitors Living proof that "age" is just a number ....
  6. Nice morning for hitting PR's .... 👍 that is until you turn back into the WIND ...
  7. Do yourself a favour and take Robert's offer.
  8. If the freehub can take the 10/11 speed cassette, then it is very easy. Next, if the chainring (front) is 104 pcd (pitch circle diameter), then it is very easy to get a chain ring. PS - you need a narrow-wide ring if you are going 11 speed. Sometimes the shops sell an "upgrade kit", including most of the parts: . Trigger shifter, including cable . Ring gear . Chain . Derailure, long cage offers more options if you want more climbing gears . Cassette Alternatively you can speak to Janos at Evobikes for a qoute for all the parts.
  9. @Jakoos the post above explains it very well. 1x11 will cost about the same, and give you much more gearing options. the low cost 1x12 is best avoided ....
  10. Bring jy dit Maart af Kaap toe vir my ?
  11. That is one good looking bike 😍
  12. Many adults are doing some hectic trails on hard tail bikes. @Me rida my bicycle Also consider the increase in running costs. Traditionally the schools series did not ride trails that needed a full suss.
  13. With CTCT the charities start later ...
  14. My GUESS ... The City of Cape Town is taking steps to distance themselves from an event organiser that is not abiding by event rules - the City has been STRICT on this point for decades. It would take a strong new approach to prove to the City that the 2026 event SHALL abide by the rules. HOW, is the question the 2026 committee needs to adress. The City regularly stops events. They work on a tick box approach. If they have doubts about the safety ... they pull the permit !! Okay, some good news - VERY EASY to limit the number of entries sold, and to check this. Thus very easy to overcome this requirement. The toilets, watering points, etc ... these are checked on the days leading up to the event. And the City WILL now check these details with a fine totthcomb .... but very easy to address these last second, this is part and parcel of the frantic frenzy leading up to getting the final event permit sign off

  16. https://www.capetownetc.com/news/city-of-cape-town-withdraws-support-from-two-oceans-marathon/ Not good for the future of this event ... 😵
  17. In 2017 the Bloemendal "trailhead" was no more than a 1x1m Wendy hut that has since fallen to bits. Then a lone container where Nicky sat and did her admin. Quickly after than a cluster of containers arranged to create a functional trailhead with a small shop. Fast forward, and it is now a small complex .... It provides permanent employment to a number of families. It provides a base for a couple of businesses. These trailheads accross SA may be a "micro" enterprise, but it is a good solid source of income for many. Let's not forget that each rider represents another string of income for the larger cycling suppliers, from bike shops to clothing etc etc ....
  18. Round the Pot .... DC .... Swellendam certainly benefits from these events. CTCT .... Each family that travels to join this World Champs spends a significant chunk of change on the trip Back to MOUNTAIN BIKES ... Cape Epic .... From massages to bike maintenance to accommodation and the list just carries on and on .... hundreds of millions are being mentioned Cycling is a BIG money spinner for local economies. Those provinces that dont take care of the races in their areas are very short sighted ....
  19. Bootleggers certainly sees it as a good market, as a partner of the Tygerberg Club.
  20. A newbie question (not a yet-setter) If you an item in Europe, and already pay their taxes .... what is the "tax risks" when you bring it back on your flight ?
  21. OUCH !! Hope she feels 100% soon. Even though I only have access to the limited YouTube feeds, I DO watch and cheer for the SA riders. Next time you are in SA and playing at Tygerberg trails, give us a heads up. First round is on me
  22. Another trails was built closer to Villiersdorp, early 2020 (jip). Apparently a stone throw from Kelkiewyn .... Would be interesting to hear if this is still open, and available.
