  1. Tempting, GT, but I'm not sure it matches the value of the bike. What else do you have to offer? I go weak at the knees at the site of high-end MTB equipment and Campagnolo
  2. Details plis?
  3. Now they've given everyone free entry to the MTB. Imagine everyone takes them up on that offer I have paid to do both. But I'm not sure I want to fight five gazillion roadies for my piece of singletrack.
  4. GT, when are you buying my Merckx?
  5. This is very sad news
  6. I quite enjoyed this race. Say what you like about it but it didn't suffer from a malaise that plagues most mtb races: a mass start straight into single or jeep track, leaving the unfit guys who thought they belonged on the front blocking the okes who actually deserved a spot there. A start up Krugersdorp hill was just the ticket to sort the field out. I suppose the results will be on spectrum sport but the first five places were Alex Pavlov, Jock Green (jock disputed alex's first but i think they reached some arrangement in the end), Henry uys, me and mark elliot. In the women Sam Oosthuizen won followed by, i think, Carla Rowley. Well done to bored girl on collecting third in the senior women.
  7. Vice?
  8. Is there a 9er version?
  9. Very decent of them
  10. There are lots of people who say that Campy 10spd shifters and derailer matched with a Shimano 10spd chain and cassette work perfectly. I think there is a slight difference in the spacing of sprockets between Campy and Shimano 10spd, which means that your gear setting would probably have to be more accurate for the system to work well. In other words, there would be less room for error.
  11. There is an easy solution to this pivot-point debate. Harden the f@#$ up and ride a hardtail.
  12. That bike is HOT.
  13. This only makes sense if you are using a Shimano rear derailleur. There is actually a significant difference in the amount of cable pulled per click between Shimano and Campag. Interestingly, the amount of cable pulled per Campy 10spd click is almost exactly the same as Sram. Therefore, if you have difficulty getting Campy shifters, you are better off looking for Sram substitutes.
  14. Thanks Matchstix. Would it help to remove it, you think?
  15. I have a Suntour XCR which I'm quite fond of due to its simplicity and ease of service. However, my lockout has started playing up recently. It works by a little metal pin. Push the pin down and the lockout is on. Release it and the lockout is off. My trouble is that the pin is relatively easy to push in but it no longer releases. It now requires much coaxing with a pair of pliers for it to release. Is there any way of fixing this? I took the damping cartridge (to which the pin is attached) out and it has a sticker saying "don't open because there is compressed nitrogen inside". Unless I can fix this by Sunday, I'm gonna be doing the Sun City MTB race with no lockout, and it's the type of race where you want a stiff fork now and again.
  16. Wayne, there is a giant steel red Colnago at my LBS. I'm not sure what they're asking but they might let it go cheap, considering it hasn't been sold in a while. Has full Mirage 8spd. Chrome fork. Want me to take a pic?
  17. Hence that insane seat tube on the VXR Ulteam. Man I like that bike. 928SL has just bought one. Guess he's going to have to change his hub user name when it arrives...
  18. I'm in love
  19. Edman, thanks for sharing that. Had no idea the process was such a mission!
  20. RacerX, don't be put off this journey. I've done several bike trips without backup. I've ridden from Belgium to Morocco, from JHB to PE (average more than 200km per day) and from JHB to the Botswana/Zambia border. They were all great experiences.
  21. Looks really nice Velo! Speaking of chrome' date=' has anyone here successfully re-chromed old chrome or chromed lugs of steel bikes that weren't already chromed? [/quote'] Getting some stuff done in the next week!! Fork & headtube lugs and chainstays. Will let you know how it goes. Excellent Delgado! Can you please treat us to before and after pics?
