    Suntour

I have a Suntour XCR fork on my bike. So does Bored Girl. Don't buy them if you're a weight weenie, that's for sure But I don't think the comments about performance are entirely warranted. I've put mine through its paces on some rough terrain and it still works. Adjustability is just about zero. But I'm happy with the spring and the remote lockout works very well. I've never been able to bottom it out. It's also the easiest fork in the world to service. I can't see myself upgrading any time soon.
  2. Makes me want to start a foundation dedicated to the butterflies that died for the Livestrong foundation.
  3. I have the cross rides. Can't say i'd recommend them. They came with poor spoke tension. A few months down the line an annoying freewheel issue developed. This issue seems to afflict many mavic riders, which can be confirmed by a hub search. My advice would be to buy a custom wheelset off chain reaction. It'll be stronger, cheaper, more reliable and possibly lighter. Talk to mampara. He bought one recently.
  4. Oom, is it safe to ask how you made this discovery?

  6. Have you rethreaded them already?
  7. Nope some LBS screwed up ........... again Same moral: LBS = middle man
  8. Moral of the story? Cut out the middle man!

  10. That's a great photo, OPC. What category did you race in?
  11. What's with that downtube swift?
  12. Ah, still need to get some circlip pliers. Wonder if my local Mica will have a pair
  13. Thanks droo. Have sent him a PM. DB, not sure if they're similar to Crossmaxes. What part of the hub would I have to look at and what tools would I need? Is it an allen key?
  14. My Mavic Crossrides have developed an annoying freewheel issue. Don't know if the cold weather made it worse this morning, but there was one stage where I was pedaling and the casette was turning round and round without the bike going forward. The freewheel pawls are not engaging after a period of freewheeling? What would cause this and how do I fix it before the XC race at the bike park this Sunday?
  15. Looks very nice but what is the point of the funny shape of the downtube?
  16. Never mind that, what does the bathroom scale have to say? Beautiful rig, thug. Hope you have many happy miles on her.
  17. I've solved this problem without drilling/filing my stops. I run open cable on the top tube, which doesn't see much mud and dirt anyway. Then from the top tube to the derailer I run continuous cable housing. It just takes two cable ties to hold the cable to the seat stay. It works neatly and there is no drilling or filing required.
  18. For me, this race just highlighted the need to be extremely selective about which MTB races I do. From now on I'll stick to a simple rule: I only enter MTB races that have one of the following: - The first km or two on tar or a wide dirt road with plenty overtaking space. - Proper seeding (this is long overdue in MTB races). - No integration of long and short distance routes for sections where overtaking is not possible/difficult. I don't pay to enter MTB races so I can wait in queues on the course or fight for a place on the start line with people who have no business being near the front. Jules2009-06-22 01:44:31
  19. If his chain breaks again he should be able to get a new one at Linden Cycles for under R30. That's what I paid for one for my single speed. It's a big fat thing. Should fit on his cogs.
  20. Bliksem! If his bike is that worn, would a new chain even work?
  21. Not saying you're wrong, but Airborne doesn't seem to be a Waspa member either. This is the response I received from a Waspa agent: "Hi Julius - I just saw the email you sent to Ant regarding MTN. MTN, Vodacom and Cell does not fall within our jurisdiction. "The company sending out the sms's on behalf of MTN is Multimedia Solutions, but they are also not a member with WASPA"
  22. That is my dream bike too! But sadly it's going to stay a dream unless the frame price drops by at least R30k. Chris, I see J&J's RRP for this frame is R53k. I trust the CWC price is better?
  23. Chris, as I understand it MTN is not a member of Waspa and hence the regulator does not have jurisdiction in this case. I have asked MTN for an official response on this one. I'd love to know how much money MTN has already made out of this little campaign.
  24. Just an update on this scheme: iTouch has been fined R50 000 by the regulator. It has also been instructed to suspend the brain age scheme until such time as it complies with Waspa's code of conduct. For the full story, click here. I am also looking into an SMS that MTN recently sent its subscribers. It says: ?MTN is giving away thousands of handsets, 87 Mini PCs, 14 Toyota Fortuners, and 1 House Bond of R1 000 000! Text "15" to 37187 (R7.5/SMS) and start winning...? This promotion is actually a ?quiz?. Once you?ve replied, MTN sends you a question and you have to reply (at R7.50) and then they send you ANOTHER question etc. Anyone been caught out by this?
