  1. I just hope that dude with the dodgy hairstyle wasn't around when my Colnago was made
  2. @Jughead: I'm fairly certain that my LBS is not out to rip me off. I try support them as much as possible. However, they buy their stuff from J&J. My LBS agrees with me every time I tell them that J&J's prices are sick. They feel my pain. The owner was telling me about a special chain tool they had to buy for the new 11spd. It cost R3k! @Onetime: they are ordinary rims laced to Chorus hubs.
  3. I have long been an ardent supporter of Campy. But there comes a time when one needs to reconsider one's options. Recently, the prices quoted for spare parts has left me horrified. The latest shock came after I took my wheels to the LBS for a service. They are ordinary rims laced to Chorus hubs. The rear cones are pitted. Replacement cones and bearings will come to over R800 I know the local Shimano agents are not renowned for their low prices on spares, but they can't be as bad as Campy... or can they? I'm thinking my next road groupset is the new Shimano...
  4. 8spd chain will be fine
  5. Be hardcore: remove the middle and granny blades! But with one of the top blades removed, will the bolts have enough to grip on? I think not. You will need a steel protector thingy...
  6. Mampara is right about the replacement parts thing. I'm a Scampy lover, but some of the prices quoted by J&J are just crazy. Like R600 for 4 replacement spokes for my electrons. And you can only buy a set of four. R250 for an ergolever clamp which shouldn't cost more than R15. R350 for a BB tool with no handle; local equivalent is R25. It's just gouging, and it is not good for customer loyalty. I'm fairly certain now that my next groupset will be Dura Ace. The shape of the levers is very similar to Campy now.
  7. bwahahaha' date=' there is still Waynedude, Marc and Delgado [/quote'] My Colango's are all dressed with Shimano mate! Whilst they could look even prettier I sacrifice somewhat for reliability! ? Let the games begin! My bad . In that case, you'll be looking to offload those Shamals of yours?
  8. bwahahaha, there is still Waynedude, Marc and Delgado
  9. Interesting, thanks Para. Nice to see the weight so low at just 2.2kg! I really don't think the extra speed was necessary though. I mean what is wrong with 10? It just creates more compatibility issues.
  10. Thanks for the info! I'm interested in what you say about steel. It'd be good to see steel make a comeback, especially in MTB. Let's just hope Jagwil doesn't see your post
  11. I must agree with those who say that this thread has the smell of someone whose sphincter just relaxed after receiving a threatening lawyer's letter. If that is the case, I believe AM (or whoever paid the lawyer) has wasted their money. There really was no need to coerce TNT1 into apologising. What he wrote about AM was buried long ago among all the other crap he's written here (no offence, TNT; after all, you're a self-confessed post whore). Sane people on this forum know that AM won the ovarian gene-pool lottery at birth. He has no need to dope. To do so at this stage of his career would be utter stupidity, and the man's not a fool.
  12. LOL the same thought occurred to me with the brain age! But they have a system to prevent that abuse. I agree 100% about Helen. Her campaign was stupid. It should never have been "stop Zuma". It should have been "We're better and this is why." The worst thing is she has to work with the guy, so it's not constructive to stir pointlessly. If she had a good relationship with him, all she had to do now is give him a call and tell him to discipline his puppet. Not sure she's in a position to do that though. That said, there is absolutely no excuse for threatening and inciting violence and making allegations about her sleeping around. Jules2009-05-12 06:23:10
  13. ? Oh, but still.. nope, no "but still"...these aren't his words. plain and simple. attack malema all you want, but don't attribute something this ridiculous to him. even he hasn't been this stupid. Well it has the ring of Malema, I think. He's called Zille a racist girl before. There is no byline for the press release. Considering how inflammatory it is, one would assume (dangerous, I concede) that Malema vetted it before it was released.
  14. This is no joke: here is a media release issued by our friends at the ANCYL today: HELEN ZILLE CONTNUES TO EXCEL AS NUMBER ONE RACIST AND DESTRACTOR OF GENDER STRUGGLES: 12 May 2009 The ANC YL is disgusted by remarks attributed to the racist girl Helen Zille, who when failing to defend her stupid and sexist decision to appoint predominantly white males into her cabinet, attacks the President of the Republic of South Africa. The ANC YL calls on Helen Zille to respect the office of the President of the Republic of South Africa and stop making stupid and degrading remarks against President Jacob Zuma. Zille has appointed an all male cabinet of useless people, majority of whom are her boyfriends and concubines so that she can continue to sleep around with them, yet she claims to have the moral authority to question our President. If the fake racist girl Zille continues to speak hogwash like she has been doing during elections, we will take militant action against her, and demonstrate to her that she does not have monopoly over the Western Cape. The fake racist girl who was dropped on a head as child should understand that South Africa will never be a Mickey-mouse Republic like she wants to portray it. An absolute majority of South Africans support President Jacob Zuma and will find it very disgusting for a fake racist apartheid agent to continue undermining the highest office in South Africa. 15. Woman editor perhaps?
  16. Joe's right. It takes courage to concede you failed the brain age test! Hog has a point but it also takes two to tango. Just because you left your car door open, doesn't mean the crooks were entitled to take your radio.
  17. TickyD, did they SMS you a code and did you enter it? If they didn't, PM me. Maybe I can help you. I wrote an article on this crowd recently. You can read it here. I'd strongly recommend that you complain to Waspa. It has the ability to fine operators like this. Not that it has much effect on their modus operandi: it's just too profitable. You can take a look at Waspa's complaints archive here. You will see that iTouch has had to pay numerous fines.
  18. I don't think it's a good idea to use one soap for everything. I reckon use degreaser for the chain and cassette (preferably off the bike) and something gentle for everything else. In another thread Spinnekop said he swears by baby wipes for the cassette
  19. Cut your losses and go rigid! Seriously, though, it doesn't sound right. Is your LBS putting a markup on the Omnico quote or are you dealing with them directly?
  20. He shoulda gone rigid!
  21. Spinnekop, if it was me I'd buy the Planet X and train on something cheap. But considering it's not me and you say you have to ride good stuff on training rides, then your choice is a no-brainer. The Shamals will look after you much better for the long haul. I don't care what the non-believers say though: you will pay a small aerodynamic price. Especially for your attacking style of racing.
  22. I use www.legalcity.net for my Cipro searches. HIGHORBIT SA (PTY) LTD has only one director: JUSTIN SPENCER PATRICK DOWDLE, resident of Bryanston. He celebrates his 35th birthday next month. A Google search suggests he's a cyclist with an engineering background. The HIGHORBIT registered auditors are Malherbe Lourens Chartered Accountants. Not sure what value this brings to the debate, but there it is.
