  1. Pornstar was online and posting earlier.
  2. Add 14% for VAT and you're at the Solomon's price. Give em a call. I'd be surprised if they won't agree to R1500. Those gents are dealmakers. Depends where you stay as well, I suppose. If you're a Capie then it's probably better just to buy of CRC.
  3. Ah Zaskar beat me to it
  4. The SLX crankset comes with a BB. The BB will work with all frames. The only difference is the number of spacers you insert when installing the BB. The Crankset should include instructions. You need to decide on two variables: crank length and gear ratios. I'd actually advise calling Solomon's for a quote. I think their price on an SLX crankset is the same as CRC: about R1500.
  5. Bored girl and I are going to be there for the long weekend

  7. You mean Shamus
  8. I just bought some 1.95s
  9. Probably more than a Peace 9er and a nice alu Zaskar together.
  10. And he was ahead of you!
  11. That 'Dale also has quite a long head tube. I'd guess between 18cm and 20cm.
  12. Wheels on each bike? I must say, the Silverback sounds like incredibly good value, given the crazy prices other bikes go for. Is it full XTR?
  13. Super mil, PM Johan Bornman. He is known to experiment with cheap concoctions. I remember him saying that he bought a 5l carton of some carpet glue or similar. He invited hubbers to come get some, because it eventually goes off after a while. I'm sure a search for "johan, tubeless and carpet" will yield results.

You'll hear many different opinions. Mine is "no". I'll justify: I think those spokes are ridiculous. They are obviously not aero. A pair of deep sections are much better suited to the type of cycling we do in SA. I think the only type of race in which these wheels might have an advantage is a hillclimb of 10% gradient or more. And even then it's debatable. Also, think of what the cost will be if you break a spoke in a few years time?

  16. JB has had some very disparaging things to say about anodizing. He says it increases the risk of failure. I don't have a view either way, just thought I'd share that.
  17. I don't know about the aerodynamics, but I know that weight will make virtually no difference if you do not accelerate frequently and there are no hills.
  18. Discs have become the standard. And despite what some others on this forum say, they really are much stronger than V. (I'm talking hyrdraulic discs here, not the mechanical, which I haven't tried, but I believe also work better than V).
  19. For an extra mental workout, read that post at maximum speed six times, with rests of 10s in between
  20. That's quite ambitious. I've done joburg to pe unsupported in six days, including a rest day. It was really tough. There was a constant headwind for the whole trip which nearly broke me. What's the purpose of this proposed trip? Training? You thought of a route yet? I might be keen.
