I usually try to get in at least 2 rides of 6-7 hours in one go each year.

I want to spend at least 7 hours in the saddle this weekend and go for 8 hours next weekend and then 'taper' to a 4 hour ride the weekend before.

Looks like there will be some rain in the Kloof over the next 2 days as a cold front marches through... Not looking forward to training this weekend, will be another cold one in Bloem.

Ecobound are good at a lot of things but general admin and comms are not one of those.

Don't think I will ever take that risk, rather then go with lights from the start. Anything can happen on route...

Yoh, you guys are looking to fly. We had a teammate going for his first pull out last week. We have been taking it real easy as we were looking just to finish, going to have to re-adjust our goaltime. Bergplaas in light will be 1st prize. Doing my 5th so holding thumbs for good weather.

Should give you an idea.

We ride in the middle to back of the pack and generally do between 15 and 17 hours. You really do not need to take food along, maybe just an energy bar or biltong or something to snack on between CP2 & CP3 as CP2 is the only point you do not get 'proper' food. We usually pack our lights in the crate going to CP3 as we aim to hit this point at about 16.00 to 17.00 and the climb to MAC is usually done halfway in the dark for us so we put lights on here. Depends on what you want to do but we usually pack a change of clothes / warmer clothes for CP4 on top of MAC as it is usually at this point it becomes colder and also a bit colder on the Big Dipper. You should be able to manage without support if allowed as the CP's are well stocked and if you ride with a camelback type bag you can carry most spares with you, in general people along the route are more than willing to assist, we always do. I also make up some small bags with my 'powder' to mix in bottles beforehand and just add at each stop. Lube is also a good thing to carry, especially if it is a very wet year.

Think you have a point, my computer only went haywire when adjusting the brightness.

Have experienced similar issues with a Giant wireless computer, as soon as I switch on the light readings become erratic and inaccurate.

Have to agree with Grumps, if someone held a gun to my head and I had to pick one movie only it would be 'The Shawshank Redemption'. Many others I enjoyed include: Fight Club, Patch Adams, The Life of David Gale, Crimson Tide, The Silence of the Lambs, A Few Good Men, Last of the Mohicans and I can go on and on... 'Epic' type movies - Braveheart, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan (those first 15-20 minutes!!!)

Got to agree with NQ being the favourite, I reckon he will try and put as much time as possible into the others today and defend tomorrow (or gooi full throttle again and drive his dominance home)... Other alternative is to hold back and see how the others go as he has the luxury of going last...and make sure he has something in the tank tomorrow.
