  1. We ride in the middle to back of the pack and generally do between 15 and 17 hours. You really do not need to take food along, maybe just an energy bar or biltong or something to snack on between CP2 & CP3 as CP2 is the only point you do not get 'proper' food. We usually pack our lights in the crate going to CP3 as we aim to hit this point at about 16.00 to 17.00 and the climb to MAC is usually done halfway in the dark for us so we put lights on here. Depends on what you want to do but we usually pack a change of clothes / warmer clothes for CP4 on top of MAC as it is usually at this point it becomes colder and also a bit colder on the Big Dipper. You should be able to manage without support if allowed as the CP's are well stocked and if you ride with a camelback type bag you can carry most spares with you, in general people along the route are more than willing to assist, we always do. I also make up some small bags with my 'powder' to mix in bottles beforehand and just add at each stop. Lube is also a good thing to carry, especially if it is a very wet year.
  2. Think you have a point, my computer only went haywire when adjusting the brightness.
  3. Have experienced similar issues with a Giant wireless computer, as soon as I switch on the light readings become erratic and inaccurate.
  4. Strongs Garf, give it horns!!!
  5. I also received great service from them when I bought a bar a couple of months back. They went out of their way to assist me when I had issues paying via Paygate and the bar was delivered in record time!
  6. Just remembered another fairly recent favourite...Inglorious Bastards.
  7. But if you HAVE to Forgot about Good Will Hunting, watched it again the other day. Another 'old style' movie with an open ending...
  8. Have to agree with Grumps, if someone held a gun to my head and I had to pick one movie only it would be 'The Shawshank Redemption'. Many others I enjoyed include: Fight Club, Patch Adams, The Life of David Gale, Crimson Tide, The Silence of the Lambs, A Few Good Men, Last of the Mohicans and I can go on and on... 'Epic' type movies - Braveheart, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan (those first 15-20 minutes!!!)
  9. Ok Nick, you are trumping me on the rest of the stuff Keep us updated, going to be awesome!!!
  10. Just finished some upgrades on my Vida 1...3 out of 4 on your wishlist
  11. This sounds a bit familiar hey Hairy... I had issues with my frame as well, had to take a bit away in the drops.
  12. No worries, went and checked the TV guide and yes, Dauphine at 15.30.
  13. Any broadcast today?
  14. Aish Vettes hoop hy word gou gesond!!! Waar was dit?
  15. Got to agree with NQ being the favourite, I reckon he will try and put as much time as possible into the others today and defend tomorrow (or gooi full throttle again and drive his dominance home)... Other alternative is to hold back and see how the others go as he has the luxury of going last...and make sure he has something in the tank tomorrow.
  16. What time do they start today and what is the expected winning time? Do they start with similar time gaps to a normal TT between riders? Nairo, Arredondo & Pozzo favourites?
  17. Aahhhh, just realized I have not posted my pride and joy on here yet, only on the SS thread...Ok, just wanted an excuse to look at her again

  20. Thanks Pieter. It is a Taya Singlespeed Chain, got it from CWC in Jan. They have some listed on the site but doesn't seem to have halflink in stock at the moment.
  21. Thanks!!! Lekker long weekend coming up to enjoy!!!
  22. Finally done.... Unfortunately bar looks more pink than red. Might change to a black saddle as well...and to break some further rules...add some red bar-ends
  23. I've been saying this since I moved to Bloem about 5 years ago. I have stayed in most major cities bar Durban and this is the only place you do not see a roadblock or traffic officer at night, actually hardly ever. Drinking and driving is a major problem as well as speeding. In general Bloem drivers are quite aggressive on the road in my opinion.
  24. Who was this Garf and where did it happen? It is sad to say but I am really looking forward to this Ironman season being over and getting back on my mtb. Think this will be my last season for a while. It is just not safe on the roads anymore. I will probably do another sometime in the future but all training will be done on dirt. Not ideal but that is how I feel at the moment, rather safe than ...
