  1. Agree partly with you - the idea is not on the Harbour ROAD, but on a lane through the Harbour, and we are identifying a potential route IN CASE we (at least) get a hearing. (there is actually a nice, well-defined Twee-spoor track in exactly the spot you mention, for most/much of the distance; Transnet INSPECT the fence minimum 2x daily on a Quad bike, I have ridden this (gravel bike) a good few times, and it has ‘potential’ to be developed, etc. Tough to deal with Transnet, but worth a shot… thanks for your input! Chris
  2. Request - JOSHUA’s form take just FIVE minutes to fill in; if you are avoiding the Woodstock Cycle Lane for A-N-Y reason, please give up 5 minutes of your life for this important initiative. Chris (and Joshua).
  3. is this Galazo crew organizing from NEXT year? If so, I made some notes I wish to pass on, regarding suggested/needed 'improvements', thus my question. thanks Chris
  4. noted, and thanks, we may ask for some assistance in the coming weeks... Chris (and Joshua).
  5. @Hairy as per above, any info you can share? thanks @ChrisF
  6. Related to cycling safety - please read, and constructively comment, as appropriate: thanks Chris (and Josh).
  7. I believe it to be 30%.
  8. Oh wow - he is one SERIOUSLY accomplished individual!! https://www.instagram.com/james_mccallum92/
  9. Update: met with Josh - we had a good planning chat, about possible next steps... Between us, we will collect names of people who COMMUTE (firstly) and ride for training (secondly) both INBOUND to CT, and OUTBOUND, to get a better idea of where affected riders START their journeys, etc. WHO IS AFFECTED. Then, we will identify the SIZE of the problem, meaning that we will map out the affected portion AS A PERCENTAGE of the total West Coast cycle path, to illustrate that a SMALL portion is holding the entire cycle path 'to ransom'. WHAT PORTION OF THE CYCLE PATH IS AFFECTED, IN DISTANCE. We will likely build up a small data-base detailing actual incidents that have occurred on that part of the cycle path... THE SCALE OF THE PROBLEM, BY INCIDENT. We will likely approach Dave Bellairs, THEN Premier Alan Winde, and then poss. John Maythem/ Afternoon Drive Show, who interviewed the Premier after him being robbed. WHO CAN POTENTIALLY ASSIST, AND FURTHER PULICIZING HOW O-L-D THIS SITUATION IS. Josh will likely start an EXCEL spreadsheet with names of rider who cycle in-bound, who are affected, with contact details in case authorities wish to verify scale of the problem. (I will try and do same for OUTBOUND cyclists - their is a reason for wanting 2 different groups...) Josh will likely get the OWNER of City Rock Climbing Gym - his employer - to make high-level contact, explaining that the City Rock CUSTOMERS wish to RIDE - not drive - to the Gym, from CT, and at least 2 City Rock employees cannot use the cycle lane, but they both wish to... This goes back AT LEAST to June 2019 (!), when the Cape Town Cycle Tour advised riders to AVOID this section of cycle path. https://www.facebook.com/cycletour/posts/warning-to-all-cyclists-to-please-avoid-this-route/2827002640706579/ NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT WINGE, OR COMPLAIN THAT NOTHING CAN/WILL BE DONE - BE PART OF THE SOLUTION - LETS TRY AND FIX THIS! CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTIONS WELCOME! Chris
  10. Not sure many RIDERS will have seen this chap, in a full business (albeit s-t-r-e-t-c-h-y!) suit, but I have seen him (riding, and later, spectating) over several years... ...he rides STRONGLY, greets MANY people who obviously react to him in a SUIT - fun story!
  11. My Wife lost a pair, on Feb 28th, we were HIKING, did 200m on the MAST road, and then back into the bush, direction East Fort/Chapmans Peak - she lost a pair of DARCS - not riding glasses, but 'CASUAL' WEAR, JUST in case anything found... (DARCS...) Cheers Chris
  12. Whew! I got TIRED just THINKING about pushing a tandem, well done, you! 👍
  13. As per my earlier post, I am ready/able to help, @thejoshswin, give me a call on 072 211 7725, and let's meet up, ...and I will see if we can get to meet with Dave Bellairs, who can THEN possibly get us 'in' to see Alan Winde, worth a shot; my input will be 'need', as I have commuted that route for a good number of years, until it was unsafe, and then I HAD to find an alternative, so I am an 'interested & affected' party, as it were. Cheers, Chris
  14. I HEAR you, but it is presently 35-Degrees C in Paarden Eiland, and expected to be 35-Degrees when I commute back home at 4pm today - I DO hope these 'cooling breezes' of which you speak, materialize
  15. @ChrisF how did your ride go?
  16. Just a 10km return ride to Suikerbossie and back; then, back home, rewatched the race and saw myself and Sascha Weber in the same frame 🤣… clapping for 3 hours is no easy feat! 😉 It was nice watching both the Women's, Mens, as well as the brief break-away of Sascha (pictured) and then later seeing Jimmy Mills (37 tours?) Uwe Schmidt, Derwin, @ChrisF, David from the Hobo channel, & sorry to miss you Buff & Cathy @BuffsVintageBikes Well-run event, as always. i have pointers-on what could be likely/easily improved for 2027, but that can come up in a later thread, once all the excitement has died down! Chris
  17. IIRC, our respected Premier, Mr. Alan Winde, himself an avid cyclist, was robbed of his cellphone on that VERY stretch next to My Citi bus lane/Woodstock… What makes it all the more REMARKABLE, was his security detail was WITH him, and he still got robbed…, at knife-point. Article here: https://iol.co.za/news/2013-02-18-mec-they-robbed-me-of-my-trust/ (I am willing to ASSIST with talking to authorities about POTENTIALLY opening up a cycle ‘section’ to bypass the ‘notorious’ section, but do not want to head this up…) Cheers Chris
  18. I am not sure what gives the biggest chuckle...? ...a TAME machinist ( @michaelbiker ) , or the Ek hou van SUKKEL ( @CARANXCycleMobile! 😄 Nice!
  19. Tuesday commute, with a COOLISH 5.30am start, so broke out the Gilet for the 01st time this 'season'...! Quite a lot to see this morning; Mayor or Premier and some big wigs having a 6am breakfast at Camps Bay Tidal pool - no pics, but it was all rather formal! ...and then 40 - 50 Metro + SA Police + Municipal vehicles at Bantry POINT; I stopped to look over the wall, since there was a fair bit of Abseiling going on, and way below in the rocks a little informal village had set up in the rocks next to the ocean, and it was all being cleared up - the sheer amount of clothing and shelter-building materials was staggering - they authorities must have arrived at around 4 or 4.30a.m. to 'net' the group of people, and then painfully bring all that material back up the insanely-steep slope! I saw at least 2 gents being escorted up the slope, but reckon this must have been a group of 10, or more, 'campers'... After this, a beautiful Moon Set - pics NEVER do it justice, and on in to work. (only upsetting part of the morning was 1-too-many 'WhipperSnappers' racing past me, like I was standing still - grrr...!)
  20. @RocknRolla brilliant post - gave me a REAL chuckle... @BrianMTB since you have (good) history with the group, AND seem to generally enjoy the group, maybe have a word with said ride leader; he may SIMPLY be oblivious, and then advise if if he MUST hit the climbs e-Hard® (😉), then he should himself crank the power d-o-w-n, to level the playing field, else move backwards through the field, and not be an e-Twat®
  21. …not the question you asked, but here goes… If fitting Tri-bars for the longer open road/Bike-packing, then they make a VERY good ‘base’ to suspend a ‘between the bars’ bike-packing bag; admittedly not as low a C.O.G. as left & right LOW FRONT panniers, b-u-t it makes for a VERY stable, ‘centralized’ load, which practically slips on/slips off, worth a thought?! (am currently experimenting with it; the Tri-bars save on needing to fit a stand-off bag rack/cradle, I will snap a pic, etc, and post here…) (many years ago, i was a fan of pannier bags DIRECTLY over/on the front axle, with a 70 rear, 30 front weight ratio…). Nice setup, but times are a-changing! Chris
  22. @ChrisF Yes, makes for interesting reading / considering. Thanks!
  23. I have done Epics - 3 of them - back-to-back (context? - done a few, to compare...) and have never seen the littering you mention, and did not enjoy your 'retards' and 'dick-measuring' contest 'chirps'... I worked damn hard for my Epic spot, raised my own sponsorship, ZERO litter from myself & my partner, and have never seen any real 'degree' of littering, other than OBVIOUSLY someone can easily drop a gel sachet between gloved hand and back pocket.... If nowadays littering is a 'thing', then I stand corrected... BUT, I reckon your 'retards' (C.E.) and 'dick-measuring' comments (C.E.) have no place here, on the Forum. Chris.
  24. Thanks @KingZA for selling me the exact Profile 60mm Tri-Bar SPACERS I was looking for; they will help on the flat portions of my commutes, as well as on some planned Bike Packing trips. Cool! Chris
  25. Clyton, of THULE Claremont phoned back; R1099 incl per tire AND tube combo; very spendy, but there you go, its an option, maybe?! 3-day lead time to order in... then, you can try CAPE MOBILITY 021 979 1652 (I cannot get thru'...) Olympic Cycles said if you IMPORT a set, maybe import a LOT; they are needed for the THULE Strollers, since customers do not want to spend R2200 just to replace stroller tyres - and they were SERIOUS! Cheers Chris
