  1. @100Tours Regarding Rivnuts, can you tell me the 'easy fix'? My plan to tighten them, but NOT then use them, is to slip a butter knife or similar under the head of the bolt, apply light tension whilst using a allen key to turn the bolt in through the 'now-captive' nut, until it pulls tight against the inside of the down-tube...but I am guessing you have another solution! ...Ok, butter knife, slim feeler-gauge solution did not work as planned......any insights as to what I might try? Thanks! Chris
  2. yes, I was going to say I see a Trillion people through the Store, but I think you are right, it IS more like a Gazillion! Drop me a PM with whoever it is?
  3. don't you think a Flying Brick sticker will REALLY liven up that dullish, white cupboard space behind you?
  4. some advice for you - know when to 'wind your neck in'....just let it go, take a chill pill, and let riders - young and old alike - do what they choose to do; for I think if you GET the answer(s) from younger riders, you will still not be satisfied...and we will have an endless debate. Cheers, happy riding - both bikers a-n-d e-bikers! Chris
  5. can you tell me WHAT about it did not work for you, since I am considering doing the same, but NO front shocks, just a near-locked-out rear shock...
  6. after doing three consecutive Epics, 3 years running, trust me, I needed a break! But yes, I 'dodged' 2008! Noted re only using Spez shock, will start searching now. 7. Will DM you, but here is some more background... My riding buddy and I did the Epic in 2005, 2006 & 2007... Me and him on identical bikes, mine Large, his Medium. He had a warranty claim on his frame, an unusual claim; two ‘rivnuts’ that hold the water-bottle cage came loose, or were rather ‘no longer ‘captive’. (The bikes have THREE water-bottle mounts, so 1 not really needed...) They spin on the bolt, in other words, not an issue if not using that mount... Since this was a warranty claim, he transferred Brain shock, & front shock to new frame. I thus now have a VERY nice frame, (he gave me the frame today) which I will buy a front (non-shock) fork for... I guess if I hunt around (Omnico?), I could find a fubar shock, and simply fit it with the bearing-collar, exactly as on my Large frame... Any suggestions as to where to start looking for a blown-out or working shock? Your suggestion DOES make eminent sense! Thanks Chris Not simply about saving money, repurposing a very good frame, with disk brake mounts, that will take 29/700c wheels with modest rubber, will be a fun project.
  8. Unsure of your business/profession, but it is possible, if difficult, to get a Harbour pass IF you have any business reason to visit the Harbour frequently... Way les traffic, drafting (safely) 16-wheelers is fun, and it’s near-flat. Only negative is probably a bit more road debris. You could the exit the Harbour early, and turn left for Woodstock. On 2nd thoughts, your problem does seem to be BEFORE the Harbour t/off... PM if you want more info. Chris
  9. I have a very good condition SPECIALIZED SOFT-TAIL ally S-Works 26er that I would like to convert to a monstercross/gravel grinder. I have many questions: 1. With rear shock already removed, how easy/difficult is it to ‘lock out’ the rear triangle, and CREATE a hard tail? 2. would I be able to fit gravel Tyres on 29 hoops to the bike. 3. If not then I have a few pairs of 26 wheels I could use... 4. Which means it would be more of a MTB with drops, than a gravel grinder, I know... 5. The Medium frame would work well, after measuring, allowing for drops, since I also have a Large alloy Spez. S-works, and I could ride theMedium comfortably, with drops fitted.... 6. Should mention the Large Spez is already fitted out as an e-bike, so will not use that frame. All suggestions welcome, the frame really is in tip-top condition... Cheers Chris
  10. I second this - in it's entirety - else put a topbox on your Harley - you can thank me later! - great bike as a second bike, but I THINK you might be better served by a different bike, my 5c! Cheers Chris
  11. then let me re-state: i have zero reliability issues whatsoever, so reliability is a non-issue, for me. Cheers Chris
  12. Retro-fitted a 26er Spez alu S-Works 5-odd years ago, Chinese Bafang conversion, don’t use it much anymore, but not one days problem, never!(Was recovering from major leg surgery, and it helped me get back on a bike) I definitely see a place for them, mates Wife has one, she rides with us on our regular bikes, a win all around. Cheers Chris
  13. Try NAVWORLD, Google is your friend, they should help, if they do not, then call me.... Chris 0722117725

  17. Wow, yes, then it is in very good condition indeed, a great’ score’!Chris
  18. Nice bike, but a BEAUTIFUL SIGN in the background, I am a wannabe collector of Petronalia, and that REALLY gets my motor revving...! I think it’s repop ( not original), but Pegasus signage is the Colnago of sign collectors...! Chris
  19. keen to hear your finding, later today/tonite, I guess! nice and informative post thanks Chris
  20. Subscribe, since I am busy with a 5 x 18650. REPACK (oldBlackburn quality) setup myself. Chris
  21. OK, now M-Y bit......in addition - and agreement - to everything you have said; here is MY ‘beef’... Hand signals, or rather the lack thereof! I have to ‘transit’ across Hout Bay daily, and thenLlandudno/Bakoven/Camps Bay//Sea Point/Geen Point/City Center/PaardenEiland... The more ‘Deep Dish/fulll carbon/Specialized WHITE Boa/full Avocado Ciovita ki, then this all REDUCES the need to signal that THREE of you will shortly cross a busy main road to the middle to then turn right, no hand signalling, obviously, and I will read your minds... No hand-signalling, ***@ol, just a glower at a pesky motorist.... I own 3 pairs or red gloves, the better to stand out when I rid my bicycle, and signal if I am about to....’fart’...! (sanctimonious rant off...) Chris

  23. ..no chance - at all - to commute? that way you get to 'bank' one or two rides per week, on a regular basis, not easy to commute, logistics and all that... ...but IF you can, it is a LOT of fun arriving at work 30 mins before colleagues, feeling WAY more awake than them, and feeling....'The S-T-O-K-E'!
  24. rather put that butter - a thickish 'smear' on a lekker carb-friendly cracker (read: seed) biscuit, and call it the Revenge of the Butter!
  25. there is a well-priced Motobeccane (spelling?) French bike for sale on Gumtree AND the Hub, IIRC; it has straight bars fitted, but comes with drop bars, the price of the bike is very good, the only real drawback i could see is that a replacement French BB is hard to come by, if indeed it needed one, but I know very little about French BB's, just what I was told!
