  1. Just picked up my S1 Crosscountry shoes. Can't wait to put my cleats on and see if they cycle as comfy as just walking around. Another awesome deal from CWC!!
  2. Shortest (Parklands -> Bellville) 20km Longest (via Melkbos) 50km Only been at the new offices since Feb so beeg rides come summertime on the cards for sure. Helps having showers at work....
  3. Only 1 pic, sure I grimaced more that that at your smiling face....
  4. This was my first XC in years and first in SA so had a really good time. I struggled on the 5th lap and my lack of MTB riding/skilz showed on my lap times. It was well organised and the route was great, Tygerberg really should look at organising a series since the route options between Hillcrest/Nitida and Contermanskloof are endless. This is a really good opportunity and to wait over a month for the next one in Stellies is a shame, can you tell I'm hooked.....
  5. This past weekend, one of the best organised track championships happened and ran off like Swiss clockwork. This was a mammoth effort to incorporate Western Province, Boland and Southern Cape into a single event and the following people deserve special mention although they are just the tip of the iceberg of outstanding contributions made by a host of people and by no means a concise list: The ladies who organised the refreshments and catered for everyone. Owen Lloyd - who sponsored the race numbers and who repaired the electronic timing system, so that we were able to give exact times. Chris Basson for organising the funding to hold the Champs and who were willing to perform duties as commentator. Abdul Davids for arranging the security and cleaning staff and who was always willing to give a hand and advice where needed. Johan Smith for finalising the program (a HUGE job!) and for basically making sure that everything was running smoothly and putting up the results in record time as well! All the officials for being willing to spent their free time away from their families at the track and for doing a truly great job. Morne Van Greuning, for overseeing everything. A true ambassador to track cycling!!Then finally, the riders. Thank you for your positive attitude and giving us great racing. This was your Champs and I hope you enjoyed it. Without you there would not be a Champs. Results will be posted as soon as they're made available, well done everyone!!!
  6. when I'm big I wanna be a Shiv.... ShortLegs2010-02-23 01:39:44
  7. Nice guy, not so nice news. Get well soon Brad!!
  8. The carnage at the finish in the sub vets was down to a single rider I have on good authority. He rides for PEPCell and didn't even return to the accident to see if the fallen riders were ok This doesn't mitigate the comedy of errors mentioned in previous posts that led to so many incidents in the same vicinity of the Simonsvlei ride.
  9. Good day everybody. It seems the last couple of days we only have exciting news, but this one is REALLY special! For those who do not know Lance Armstrong will be in Cape Town the week of the "Argus". On 11 March there will be a breakfast in Cape Town where Lance Armstrong will be the guest of honour and the speaker. He will talk about his sporting experiences and his inspirations, a truly remarkable story. WP Track is in the very fortunate position that INTELLIBUS has donated a ticket to us to be raffled off for a place at a corporate table for the breakfast. The funds generated will be used to drive various WP Track Cycling Projects. The raffle will be R20 per ticket and sales will be handled at the League of 26 Jan and 23 Feb at the Bellville Velodrome. Since this is a prestigious event, we will have to limit the number of raffles to 10 per person. The competition is open to everybody and the draw will take place on 2 March at the Bellville Velodrome during the 4th leg of the SUMMER LEAGUE. Mr Phill Liggett will be the MC and is promises to be an unbelievable experience. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is a rare opportunity to interact with the greatest Tour de France rider and sporting personality ever. See you at the track. If you are unable to come to the track and would want to get a raffle ticket, please feel free to mail Johan Smith at liezel@focus5.co.za Kind regards, Morne van Greuning WP Track Director ShortLegs2010-01-26 00:40:24

  11. <shamelessplug> You could even pop past Bellville tomorrow evening, track cyclists have been known to consume copious amount of alcoholic electrolyte beverages </shamelessplug>
  12. This was one hectic finish to what was otherwise a good race. It's a pity there was no wind as the course dictated big bunch finishes with it's flat profile. The finish was a sprinters dream, but coupled with the narrow R101 and location of the finish line it was always going to be dicey. We were sprinting at 63kph when a touch of wheels brought down the SV bunch as we opened the taps. I didn't even get a chance to go for it before having to use all my track skills and then some to avoid the falling bodies and bikes. I've seen 3 of the bikes written off with Kernels bartape still nice and bloody and I've sent what I felt was a constructive email to the organisers/PPA voicing my concerns. Hopefully after the broken bones, ligaments and skin grafts are all healed up, this race will be used to learn from and for the sake of the cyclists, make the races organised be the PPA, safer for all.
  13. Some of you could even come support track racing tomorrow night at Bellville
