  5. bwahahahaha, i remember his horror about that... he was "NOT amused"
  6. yep. gonna miss all the chirps - both those recieved and those given
  7. I saw this news just now on Barry's fb. i can't even remember when i first met Mark and Kurt - seems like forever ago. I know that he has always been there as a cycling buddy and "encourager" since we've been friends. He's helped me with motivation since getting back on the bike and talked me through the "tough times" of overcomming my fear of crashing again. He has brought his kids up to be really good examples and just the other day i poitned out to him that he shouldn't be surprised getting compliments about Kurt's behaviour because in all the time i've known them it's what is to be expected of Kurt - it is just how he's been brought up. Good example and all. RIP Mark, you were a great ride buddy and you will be missed.
  8. crack, my optomotrist has stated that until the day the "sill" (ie scar" on my left eye goes down enough to be able to use contacts i'm stuck with separate specs for each use, indoors and outdoors (and the worst is the opthalmologist supports her)... blimmin scars... i'm a chick and NO i do NOT dig scars, especially on me!
  9. Taps, so what you're saying is that the transitions will still work for strong script where the variance in lens thickness renders photochromic pointless? (due to the middle being so thin compared to the edges that it never gets dark enough to protect the eyes from glare) hmmmm.... maybe it's time for me to consider new cycling specs...
  10. i learnt the hard way - i'd made a chirp about not having had punctures and ended up having to replace my mtb tyres (so i sommer went tubeless) AND then when i started riding again 1-2 months ago i ended up having to replace both front and back tubes on my road bike...
  11. 10th or 24th October suits me. otherwise november, but that's sooooo far away
  12. personally i'd never consider miway. for anything. i am with cyclesure and i've never had a problem with cycle stuff or car stuff. the only issue ever was after a home burglary (when the assessor decided to smoke his socks and claim that i somehow, in less than 10 minutes and without using my access card to get myself or my car out of an access controlled office, warped myself from braamfontien to randburg to "stage" the burglary and got back to my meeting before the 15 minute recess was over... called Fred and my claim was settled the next day) so i'm not about to consider changing from them.
  13. thanks everyone - i had a lekker time. Kransie, that fillet was utterly divine!!!! thank you soooo much for spoiling us. tyerone, thanks for keeping me company - i'd have died trying to keep up with the others. barry, please remind connor not to injure himself before a ride again
  14. thanks guys - was a lekker ride. sworry for being so slow... one day i'll grow up and be brave enough to tackle (and manage) technical things (yes folk, to me groenies is technical )
  15. ag these are just too cute B) (but no, that doesn't mean i want one of my own)
  16. as is - i have taken to putting my headphones on before takeoff and read. no mp3 player on - just the headphones to not have to hear the corny cr@p they come up with
  17. RIP condolences to family and friends
  18. you will not regret it - i love my meteore and everyone i know who has a mongoose loves their bikes
  19. whooohoooooo!!!! Giants are fabulous bikes :-) enjoy!
  20. so i take it from this whole long story that certain people will never again complain about taxi's / 4x4's / weekend-warriors / etc? you say that it's ok for cyclists to do as they please so then surely it's ok for everyone else to do as they please. hello anarchy!
  21. gobbo, you could've help off on the attorney thing for now - he's gonna charge you for each letter he writes or call he makes and it's still gonna take ages! but at least you aren't going to let it go - the more people who make the effort to stand up for their rights the greater the chance that one day it might be automatically enforced by the law
  22. gobbo, take a deep breath and read... they will ALWAYS attempt to deny liability. write them a letter (nice officious wording such as "inter alia" and "notwithstanding" etc) and refer to the case number (please tell me you reported it) and state the facts categorically. just remember that this fight will/may take a long time. it took almost 2 years despite 2 other "victims" and about 3 independant witness statements to get my car crash claim paid out by the #$%^&*s insurance when a navara swung into me without indicating and flipped my car. in a "he says" "she says" argument the method employed by the majority of saffers (colour not being a factor here) is that he who shouts the loudest and longest usually wins... ie don't give up
  23. the ZAP will only occur if he tries to steal my bike! and i promise the tazer will NOT come along on hte groenies ride on the 26th
  24. OIY!!!!! i'm a GIRL ok, i'll go ride my mtb with my action cam - then i'll be able ot prove self-defence - her dogs go for me, she can restrain them but refuses, i defend myself in such a way that all 3 dogs will focus on her instead.... then no prob - the tazer is for self defence so he'd have to try something wrong to get to meet the tazer!
  25. Tim, give full details, my tazer and i might just need to go walkies
