  1. at least it wasn't me... had a company funtion at the bike park today. one of the events was an mtb relay (very short lap)... so about half our team fell, but mostly just dust and a minor bruise, but one guy went down very hard. at first he didn't want anyone to even look but we could all see it was bad. his knee looked very eina and hte medic cornered him to check him over. seems like his worst injury, however, is not his knee - they think his wrist is broken :-( so yeah, if anyone notice an ambo and medic vehicle sirens blazing headed that way it was not serious (unless you consider the fact that he's a develop - needs his hands)
  2. glad you're ok. report it - you're in the only province where there is a chance something will come of it!
  3. scooterza, you will need building plans AND permission from neighbours (at least 4 years ago in randburg that was the requirement when i'd investigated). get a good architect and rather pay more for good builders - don't ask me who... the builder is lucky he left the country otherwise he'd be in a wheelchair now after the f-ups he did on my place and my neighbour's 4 houses up the road's place
  4. hope the 2 of you have many safe, fun and happy (s)miles together - she is an absolute STUNNER
  5. but then again, i do celebrate the solstices - so i do the evergreen branch and feast in mid-winter, etc. but that has nothing to do with a "saviour" who forgives you and relieves you of accountability of wrongdoings. i just wish Woolies would stock magazines that promote my beliefs on responsibility and accountablity. end of the day, this was a business decision and due to some wierdo's Woolies has now backed down and will again waste shelf space and order money on stocking items that don't sell
  6. chris_w_65 if you ride a bmw you're gonna give us bikers a shock-induced heart-attack if you greet back, otherwise greet! what really irritates me is when cyclists don't greet me back when i'm on the motorbike and greet them i mean hell, i ride up nice and quiet and then "wind it" as i get next to them and nada - nothing - the pedal pushers just focus on staying upright! in all honesty, i greet cyclists whenever i can do so safely - whether on mtb, road bike, sv, nxr or cbr and i greet motorcyclists/bikers when on any of my motorbikes. if you don't greet back the who cares - either it's your karma-loss or you can't (maybe you don't know how to ride a bike and are concentrating too hard on keeping upright)
  7. nope - have to admit she's not a "hottie"... mid-40's and a tad chubby... just a normal person (but an amazing person and good friend but you're not gonna know that just by looking )
  8. There we go - got your attention I visited a non-cycling menopausal friend of mine the other evening and she told me something that almost had me falling off my chair in shock... We all know how many complaints there are about cyclists' behaviour along the Spruit, so when she started with "Do you ever cycling along Braamfontein Spruit?" I thought, ooopsie, someone's misbehaved. Well boy was I wrong... To all the guys and girls who ride along there and smile/greet/get off the path for the walkers THANK YOU! She says that it is such a pleasure to walk along there and the vast majority of cyclists are really nice and friendly!
  9. oh ****!
  10. i truly like the way you've put this, and i'm glad that i'm not the only one who feels this way. so many people fight with me the whole time saying "he/she/i didn't mean to .... it was an accident" yet they are saying this to defend knowingly and intentionally breaking the law and causing harm/damage.
  11. he was driving so fast that Herman was flung high up in the air and his body landed a long way from the point of impact. the outsurance guys apparently figure he was going over 160kmph
  12. a colleague was killed yesterday afternoon crossing the road in front of the office. GTi speeding. Youngster driver. Daddy and family came to support the "poor little" driver. i can already hear all the appologists here saying "oh it's just an accident" "the kid made a mistake" "shame he's going to live with it on his conscience" etc etc etc... i'm sick and tired of this abdication of responsiblity, accountability and answerability. i hope this little twerp AND his family who are supporting and defending him suffer the misery they have inflicted on the family and friends of his victim. NO amount of PSEUDO "guilty conscience" will EVER bring a dead person back.
  13. Tumbleweed, i don't know, but i certainly hope that is added to the charges. according to one of the guys on bikesa the oxygen theif was overtaking a mini on a solid white line at high speed - nothing hte guys could do to avoid the collision :-(
  14. http://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Bikers-mowed-down-with-stolen-Hummer-20101017 Pretoria - Two motorcyclists died on Saturday morning and a third was badly injured when an 18-year-old youth from Pretoria North crashed into them as they were on their way to a prayer meeting. He'd apparently taken his mother's pricey Hummer and later crashed into the motorcyclists in Rachel de Beer Street, Pretoria North. The young man fled the scene shortly before the Hummer started burning. JP Kruger, 32, and Pieter Coetzee died at the scene, while Coetzee's son Pieter jnr, 25, is in a serious condition in the Montana hospital in Pretoria. The three belong to the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA). At 05:35 they were on their way to Groenkloof in Pretoria, where they gather with other motorcyclists to pray every Saturday morning at 06:00. According to police spokesperson Matthews Nkoadi, the motorcyclists were riding in an easterly direction in Rachel de Beer Street and the Hummer was travelling westward. However, the Hummer was in the wrong lane, facing oncoming traffic. "The driver struck all three motorcyclists. He jumped out of the car after the accident and fled the scene. The Hummer started burning, and all that remained was the burnt-out wreck," Nkoadi said. RIP to the fallen bikers, thoughts to the injured and condolences to the bereaved. When will people start to take acountability for their actions and when will parents stop making excuses for their brats and discipline them from a young age instead of waiting till innocent people have suffered and/or died?
  15. Moolz, it's on the road to diepsloot - head out on cedar to the t-juction and turn right. after crossing hte jukskie river you'll see signs to show you where to go buy your entry tickets and then the farm itself is a bit further on. just please abide by the rules and signage - ie don't ride in the opposite direction of any signage and dont ride where there are no entry signs
  16. agteros, i am talking very specifically about people turning onto paths CLEARLY marked as no entry or in the opposite direction to VERY clear markers. self same people who then have "attitude" when requested by "wardens" to please respect the rules
  17. I am getting totally sick and tired of the morons who insist on ignoring hte signage at NF. Us mtb'ers are PRIVELEDGED to be allowed to ride there. it is NOT a right. sooner or later these numbnut f^&*wits are going to get us banned please people, when you ride at NF do NOT ride the wrong way on marked paths and do NOT ride in areas where there are signs to say no mtb'ers.
  18. i lost weight after school... then gained wayyy too much.... then discovered cycling at 32yrs, lost most of what i'd gained.... then thyroid and autoimmune probs had me on cortisone more than off it the last 3 years... and now i just can't seem to get rid of it :-( have cut back on calorie intake and am able to exercise again but the kg's won't budge :-( at least the cm are coming down
  19. RIP to the victim
  20. Well done!!!!
  21. well done kiddo (i'm old enough to call you that ) for stopping. it's people like you who deserve the best that the planet can send your way - despite the examples all around you you did what was right. thank you for proving there are still good people in the world.
  22. yes they can, but it will not be as drastic as to a bicycle. However, I personally would pay a lawyer to pay a visit to any wanker that deliberately did something like this causing damage to my tyres worth over R1000 each
  23. mojo, was good to get together to celebrate the memories thank you to you and leigh again for everything you did to try save him and thank you for being there for kurt
  24. mojopub - i'm short chick with copper hair on a motorbike. yes, for Mark i'm gonna have 1 beer (windhoek, not my usual millers) danger dassie - see you there hopefully - we can reminisce about the 24hour events at NF
