  1. I have posted to TB as well - http://www.tbforum.co.za/forum/showthread.php?t=25499 - the guys there wish Steve all the best as well
  2. muxie, thank you so much for doing the enquiries and finding out what the actual issues are. let's all work together to adress these issues so that hopefully we will not get banned.
  3. strongs to Steve, hope he's going to be ok. Yep, Lovemore is worth a lot more than his weight in gold. He "mother hens" the straglers on saturday training rides so professionally - i'm sure he's one of the draw cards for people to join the club.
  4. yup Sabre, gotta admit from the times i've marshalled with club100 the support vehicles (and the groups) really don't seem to care whether or not peeps are club members - if they see a cyclist at the side of the road they check if all is ok.
  5. still raining
  6. hope he heals up soon karma is a bee-atch and will catch the driver, but hopefully th law will catch him too.
  7. TheCrow, gotta agree with you re the LG gloves. Another thing to try is to double up your bar tape - it softens the overall grip and by making the bars a little "fatter" tends to stop you from clenching them. This was suggested to me many years ago when i started cycling and i had the same problem and it solved the issue instantly.
  8. hope he heals up soon
  9. turtlek, yep, there seems to be a growing attitude here that you may not disagree with certain people. strange how when marshalling and organisation is bad and certain people complain, then everyone may do so. but if certain people decide that complaints arent allowed about a given event then any problems are the cyclists. from what i've heard and judging by nanosec's face this morning you had every reason to voice valid complaints - without knowing what went wrong how can things be improved next year?
  10. i was comfy with my arione from the first minute my butt and it met! before that the only discomfort was in my purse... but that has subsided due to the benefits of the sadle.
  11. Thats a common problem (muscle imbalances or weak core muscles) amongest older more mature riders speaking from experience... Sometimes the problem can be of a structural nature i.e. pelvis asymmetry' date=' excessive leg length differences, etc... which no amount of regular exercise will cure. I have always suffered from lower back pain cycling, exercising core muscles/ stretching in my case helps but does not cure the problem. After many years I found that it is due to a stiff joint in my lower back (which no amount of chiropratic manipulation could cure) and a slightly twisted pelvis (which could be due to a slightly excessive leg length difference or the stiff joint). If the problem persists save yourself further hassle and see a sports Doctor or someone similar who can make an accurate assessment of your body symmetry and depending on the outcome advise the correct course of action. A good reference for similar kind of problems is a chap down in <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Australiaon> called Steve Hogg, he has posted articles on cycling news.com and you can also e mail him questions (see cycling news link below). .<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Reference: http://www.cyclefitcentre.com/further%20reading.htm http://www.cyclingnews.com/fitness/?id=default#qa [/quote'] so glad you corrected yourself there!
  12. eish, not good at all Chris - i hope the effers get caught. oil &oom, try find yourselves some ex-zairoise guards - we never really had any problems in kinshasa, definitely never caught them sleeping... tehn again, maybe they were scared of my dad... hmmm... maybe i should send him to help you guys out...
  13. bigH, i think the point being proven here is that some people just don't "get it". as azonic said, skin colour is irrelevant.
  14. i have to agree with the guys who are saying core muscles - both their strength and their flexibility - are the most likely cause. Anti-inflamatories to resolve the current situation and then gym work - both stretches and strength. when i was comfortable doing 160km or more per ride i was also more than happy doing 3 sets of 20 hyperextensions holding a 10kg bar-bell weight to increase the resistance! not a day's problems. now i've been off gym for 2 years and mostly off the bike as well (much more off than on for the past year) and i have been feeeling it - so it's back to gym for me cos i know that will resolve the issue.
  15. hehehe as to the questioning of the bike ownership i have to agree with daemon. heck, i've got to know a dude who commutes along a section of my route. he usually uses his work's bike - and entry level hybrid giant but he has a raleigh road bike (i think an rc3000) and he always cycles in proper cycling kit with his helmet. he legitimately owns his race bike and if i ever hear of him being questioned about the ownership just cos he's black i will not be amused (Ephias is a kewl dude - not very educated but loves his cycling - rode the 94.7 despite having been hit by a taxi 2 weeks before)
  16. Davem and PI - you two ar sooo right. i am sick and tired of all the "happy clappy" little "oh it wss an accident" excuses. rights have taken precedence over responsibilities and accountabilities and this is leading to an anarchistic society. the ddriver make a conscious decision to commit a crime knowing full well that his actions had a high probability of cuasing gbh/death yet he still persisted in performing those actions.
  17. phew - glad you're ok
  18. RIP Craig. Condolences to friends and family.
  19. strongs to the rider and good on you Rick for doing what you can to help out here.
  20. eish wolvie, i'm glad the other rider came along. i do NOT want to hear that anything has happened to you
  21. Fanie, i'm relieved to hear your dad is ok - when i saw the topic and started reading i was very worried.
  22. slowpoke

    it sucks

    good luck for the treatment.
  23. strength to Estelle, her family, friends and everyone at the scene. i hope she makes a full and speedy recovery. please keep us posted as to her progress.
  24. OomH, i am so shocked to hear this and heartsore for all the victims, even the long-distance ones like you and M, who are affected by this.
  25. wrighte, the thanks are appreciated. my original posting was quite clear that it was not 1 incident or 1 or 2 guys in the bunch - it was the entire main pack who moved to the right hand side of the road and remained there 99% of the race causing numerous issues - a number of times that oncomming vehicles had to leave the road to allow them past, accidents amongst themselves, etc. at one stage for a few kms oncomming cars even had to pass on the left hand side (our left)!!! hence my call for the entire VE group to be DQ'd.
