  1. i'll decide while we set everything up on friday whether i'll just go home, feed the mutts and then back or if i'll go home to sleep and only back on the saturday... if the latter then those team-mates that sleep there will get fresh cheese and bacon scones on my return on the saturday... decisions, decisions....
  2. wow! lekker!!! good things happen to good people - this is proof of that
  3. GO, we seriously gotta make a plan. we can start you off on easier stuff - eg the jeep tracks at northern farm. let's chat to amateur and try set something up so that you can get an mtb into that collection of yours. we just need to organise a bike for you to borrow for the first time or two, but i'm sure we can sort something out fairly easily.
  4. eish, GO, that collection is seriously missing something.... an MTB!!! until you get one of those you don't have enough!
  5. ouch, my poor heart... that is DIVINE!!!!!!!!! i hope you have many happy and safe (s)miles toghether!
  6. droo and yang and the guys are right - rather buy a btter second hand bike than a new bike in that range - at that price it's well worth it and being just after the 94.7 there's a good chance you get a good deal than at most other times of the year. as calabash and the guys have said, get a decent "approved" helmet with as many vents as you can. they are quite right that it doesn't have to be top-of-the-range, just make sure it's approved and fits right. shorts are more important than shoes at this stage. if you do have the money left over to get proper cycling shoes though, it is worth it. but again, you don't need the expensive ones - the olympics are very reasonably priced and they are not bad shoes at all. if you do decide to buy new, rather look at the silverback range - currently the best value for money in the entry level range, otherwise yes, the schwinn mesa is a nice little bike (i used to have one before i upgraded to my mongoose) the most important thing, though, is the one that costs nothing - and that is smile and have fun and enjoy it!
  7. not enough (only 1 mtb and 1 road)
  8. wolvie, narra and jinx have emigrated
  9. carlo_sq, what you're saying is so true. a colleague of mine (with a national seeding index of 1.455) is currently off the bike... he let his body fat drop below 2% he is seeing a nutritionist (appointment today) to get an eating program with foods that he likes to get it up. but until it's high enough he's not allowed to cycle. so few peeps realise how dangerous it is to have too low a body fat %.
  10. hmmmm - if i hazzard a guess at the fat % i'd say about 99% and need to lose at least 4kg - tip the scales at 57kg
  11. bumped into droster_renoster a couple of months back... he'd not been riding much at that stage michH is looking at ways to try get back... but yeah, dial up at home isn't conducive to hubbing and banned from work last i saw KC (just on a year ago) he was cycling a little but very busy work wise MichaelH is back on his bike and recovering from his accident. i've been meaning to call him - at this stage i get updates via mich and her dad
  12. whooohooo!!! straatvark, you rock dude
  13. ThudBuster and just put in the appropriate little "plug" thingies (i forget what they're called). i weighed 54kg at the time i used mine for crater cruise and it definitely helped
  14. dman2, it's a common known fact that TOYOTA = LANDROVER RECOVER VEHICLE
  15. well done!!!
  16. just to repeat what i said on the other thread as this one has gone the same way: just another point, people are always complaining after races about the empty sachets lying around and the damage that is causing the enviroment. many here brag about "i put mine back in my pocket and throw them away at home" and it is largely accepted that this is the way to do it. NOW pornstar is incentivising MORE people to do this, with a "pay back" for them so you promptly attack him?!?!?!?! OF COURSE he has a vested interest and as he is in a line of business that he directly benefits is not a crime. ANY form of "social awareness" by any business is always done with a vested interest - avoid fines for non-compliance with laws, gain market share through "free" advertising, etc, etc. that does not make any of these actions wrong. at least pornstar is meeting his compliance issues in a way that gives back to his customers AND to the community and he's not just donating "x" amount of profits to an unrelated cause with no payback into cycling.
  17. it is common practice here to simply use the headline in the "mainstream" media (eg news24 or iol) as the topic and then include the link to the article and that is what occured here. no "taken in by the headlines" etc - simple copy and paste. now go play with your pink feather boa in a corner with your little supporters int he chit chat section of the forum instead of attempting to incite a flame war. i'm tired of your pathetic little attitude, which i know has resulted in certain other people already leaving the hub.
  18. HR - that is the headline used on IOL and not my words - go read the link ie it's the words of a journalist such as yourself
  19. http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=13&art_id=vn20081125113824388C102454 and another cyclist has been badly injured in Cape Town!!!!! strongs to Steve Ryan. i hope the trucker drives into a solid concrete wall or off the edge of a cliff. b@stard.
  20. ouch BB, just looked at teh pics now... eina!!!!!
