  1. Typical. Invest all the money in a swanky shop then don't even bother to answer emails
  2. Needs wider bars! 780mm at least!
  3. Sorry man, looks like you'll be paying school fees with this one. Getting the correct size bike can be a bit of a minefield as manufacturers don't all use the same measurements. For example Merida road bikes in size M are usually a lot bigger than most other brands in size M. Best bet it to move the bike and find one that fits you properly
  4. How does the ring stay in the hub? Is it threaded or bonded? Either way can be repaired if you find an engineering works that can help you. Should be a lot cheaper than a new hub as well
  5. Well well well, someone managed to get it right: Pivot Phoenix DH Bike with a Singlecrown and AXS Dropper for Enduro? Let's Go Racing - Episode 3 - Mountain Biking Videos - Vital MTB
  6. In that case, why don't you get a Penny Farthing? Even simpler to maintain
  7. I don't think there is a difference between the two in terms of the number of scratches, they will both end up looking shabby. The one difference is I have dinged alloy rims, never done that to a carbon one or broken them
  8. Not sure. Rocks seem to find rims regardless. I’ve been running tyres 2.3” to 2.5” wide
  9. Had the Lyne AMP carbon wheels on my Pyga for the last few months. No complaints after having ridden the trails at Wolwespruit quite frequently. They also seem to get scratched by rocks the same way my Giant TRX carbon wheels did
  10. Any hubbers doing the Enduro this weekend? Looks like my sidekick is out with illness so keen to tag along with someone or a group
  11. Take the bike into the office! There will be a spot for it somewhere.
  12. Scott Spark (not the RC version), Specialized Epic Evo, Giant Trance 29 and Merida One Twenty. Pick any of those and you will be golden, though stock availability might make the decision for you
  13. Wins Vuelta first!
  14. The best post is by far the Bikeyoke Revive. Super smooth, minimal force to activate and completely rebuildable with basic tools. But the best thing is the reset feature, so if the air and oil mix and the post gets saggy, it’s a 2 minute job to get it working like new. Fox Transfer is was really good, but was sensitive to the seat clamp orientation and tightness. It also had to go to agents for service. X-Fusion Manic also damn good, especially for the price. Servicing was easy, but it needed it fairly often, especially if you did a wet or muddy ride. Rockshox Reverb also nice and smooth and the 1x remote is absolute class. Hydraulics need to be serviced every now and again and a full service also means it has to go back to the agents. Giant Contact was cheap and worked. But got rough fairly quickly and developed a fair bit of play quite quickly.
  15. When last did you service the post? Could be as simple as needing a clean and some fresh grease or as drastic as needing a new cartridge. Robbies Bicycle Concept can help with both
  16. Some of my favorite comments regarding dropper posts are: I don’t need it for the riding I do. I’m not good enough to need one. Droppers are too heavy. I could not get used to the dropper. Scooped me a Fox Transfer for a bargain from someone who scored 3/4 out of those comments.
  17. Looks like flangeless seals from the Rockshox site. You will need a tool to install them properly, but at 60 hours they really should not need to be replaced.
  18. How many hours on the fork? Unless the seals are leaking or damaged, you should be ok, to give them a clean and a lube. Some SRAM butter or Dynamic Seal grease is the only stuff you really have to have. Suspension oil can be got from a local motorbike dealer (Motorex fork oil is really good stuff). Otherwise @Droo from Stoke suspension should be able to help if there are specific parts you need
  19. Another +1 for iKhambi. My Kickr's bearings started going on Friday night. Logged a support call with a video and today I have a new unit. Great service from them.
  20. Traction doesn't come from anti-squat. Traction comes from an active suspension platform that is free to track the ground and is not forced to extend by chain forces. Maestro and DW Link are also two very similar systems. DW actually consulted with Giant during the development of Maestro and tried (unsuccessfully) to sue Giant for patent infringement. Almost any suspension can be made to work well for a chosen application, whether it be four bar, linkage driven single pivot or anything else. Travel numbers have nothing to do with it
  21. Bit of a hijack, oom @Frosty the Germiston Wheelers site is a bit broken. Can see the main page, but every other page gives a 404 error
  22. Great all round bike for Gauteng trails. I had the alloy version and I never ever felt the Trance 29 was holding me back. It climbs like a beast and descends much better than a 115mm bike should (and much better than the now previous gen Scott Spark). The only thing to keep in mind with that version is the limited backup wrt to the suspension. Air spring services should be a doddle, but finding DVO specific spares might be a challenge. There were also some well documented problems with the Topaz 2 rear shock in the early production runs. Don't let that put you off as the bike is superb and Giant should handle any warranty issues if they crop up
  23. Keep a lookout for a Giant Revolt 1. 10 speed GRX, Hydraulic disc brakes and a bomb proof alloy frame with good geometry. I have the carbon version and use is on my trainer, on road and have even ridden the whole of Taroko Trails on it. Can be had for less than 30k new. Alternatively Bikemarket has a few alloy Specialized Diverge in stock. Great bike by all accounts
  24. some food for thought: LONG-TERM REVIEW - Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper vs. Stumpjumper Comp Alloy - YouTube
  25. Google MyVelo. They do an AI setup based on video footage of you cycling. Only thing is you need a trainer to mount the bike so you can film yourself
