  1. I can only go on my actual experience in selling used bikes. With so much information at people's fingertips, doing the research before buying is becoming easier and easier. I find that buyers are more informed than ever. As I said before, it's a free market, people can advertise for whatever price they'd like to and if someone pays that with or without doing research, then that's on them and them alone
  2. I'd love to see some examples of people that get taken advantage of, or do you only speculate? 30% maybe, on a new bike, as stated above. Unfortunately I sell used bikes...
  3. Like I explained in my posts above, advertised price does not indicate what the bike will sell for eventually. People do their own research before spending money, and just like you, they will get all the info they need to make an informed decision.
  4. The point of my post was that although people might advertise at a ludicrous price, they would hardly, or ever, actually sell for that price. Like I said, buyers aren't idiots and will always do their own research as well as seek advice from their riding buddies. Exploitation? Nobody is getting forced to buy or sell at any given price. Here is how sellers win, they often don't want to go through the hassle of selling a bike, they want quick, reliable payment, most often to fund their next bike. They have a good Idea of what they're bike is worth and if they receive a reasonable offer, they accept. Here is how the buyer wins, he gets a warranty on a used bike, after sales assistance, peace of mind and a safe, reliable transaction with various payment facilities, finance options or trade ins.. Win win Making a killing? The cycling industry is extremely competitive, margins are relatively low, single digits often, maybe up to 30% on a new bike. Most industries make a ton more than that. It's called capitalism
  5. Build us a monster cross bike 😁🙏 Join the club, send pics
  6. In a free market, such as ours, people can charge what they want. In my experience, people can advertise for any amount, but people are generally not idiots and in the end the items will sell for a market related price anyway. When anyone misrepresents their ad, then the report function takes care of that, I've seen it work first hand. Most of my clients spend a great deal of time discussing their purchases with riding buddies before making a commitment, often bringing their buddies along to view the bike.
  7. I'll check when he posts an ad 🤔
  8. I agree with your post. What would you suggest that admin do in the following scenario: A dealer, that spends thousands a month advertising on bikehub.co.za, gets his ad ridiculed by a mob of free-use members in a thread? Edit: The dealer users his real name or business name whereas the mob hide behind aliases
  9. Strange, maybe the mods don't like you. I proactively look for "resellers" trying to beat the system and my reports have been successful.
  10. Hit report, those dealers should pay for their ads like the rest of us
  11. That's what the report button is for and it works well. I guess what the report button doesn't do is show your friends how smart you were for finding an issue, it also doesn't give you an opportunity to discuss it with the mob and make fun of the member that posted the ad.
  12. Sounds like your bike is at least 1 size too big for you

  14. It will probably work out cheaper to sell your current bike and buy one that already ticks all of the boxes for you. I had the carbon Switch with 2x11 and mechanical brakes and I loved it, I found it very capable. I thought that I'd need hydraulic brakes, but after riding it I was happy with the braking performance. I also liked the 2x11, great range. Three components worth upgrading, perhaps before making any big decisions. 1) Lekker tyres, as wide as the frame allows 2) A saddle that loves your ass, like a Specialized Power saddle 3) Wide flare, shallow drop handlebars with thick bar tape, double wrapped I ended up selling my Switch after building myself a monster cross bike and falling in love with it 🤣
  15. Road, MTB, gravel. Lots of MTB this time of year
  16. We registered our social group of 40odd riders as a club for purely this reason. Now at least we get to decide how our money is spent to ensure we offer value to our members.
  17. You're welcome to drop me a whatsapp on 0834731930 and I will add you to our ride group. We often ride from Broadacres or Pedal and Sprocket Kind regards, Manny
  18. I really appreciate your post
  19. Wow, I really appreciate your post. Thank you
  20. Does the Bible have anything for a serious case of entitlement?
  21. Well, hopefully admin gets back to you on this, I mean, you asked so nicely
  22. Usernames change Email addresses don't Just my guess
  23. You can have a little fun with these guys. I usually send them to an address just up the road from me and watch as they wait around aimlessly, eventually giving up after plenty time wasted
  24. Just another typical day on a bikehub forum
