  1. I was planning on doing the Embark training. It personally helps me to be part of a group to keep my accountable and consistent
  2. I'm currently training for the MiWay Cape Ultra, so busy getting the time and mileage in the bank, just trying to determine how much time is invested for the full IM, because I can't think it would be as simple as just doubling the current workload.
  3. For those of you that did the full IM, how many hours did you spend training a week towards the end? I'm considering trying to go for the African Tour Medal next year, but the running is my nemesis...
  4. So haven't been on the swimming scene in a while, but here is what I know: Cape Town Masters Swimming has satellite groups all over, ie Tygervalley, and at Bellville public pool. You can contact them and they can put you in touch with whomever is running training groups in the area: http://www.ctmasters.co.za/ Also I know that Wingman Multisport had some people training together a while back, not sure if that's still the case. Embark is another group that trains in the northern 'burbs, and there's also Cape Multisport Club. Hope this helps. EDIT: I just remembered there's a group that trains at Fairmont HS as well, will see if I can find out who runs it.
  5. Eish Oom, was hoping to say hi
  6. Are you going to be there again?
  7. Mr Min sprayed over the sticky area, left to "simmer" for a few minutes, wipes it off quick and easy as well.
  8. at least your wife has taste... can't say much for you though...
  9. So this arrived today: I’ve been drooling over this for months.
  10. Sweet, will make a plan to get it to you
  11. Willis Tower (aka Sears Tower) - bought for R249.50, selling for R150 Treehouse 3 in 1 selling for R350 If anyone may be interested let me know, I can use postnet to postnet as well if you're not in the Cape Town area. Btw, all the pieces are there, I built them all yesterday to check
  12. Where would be a good place to sell off a couple of lego sets? Would it be presumptuous of me to post things here?
  13. I like the monotony of laps. Although I've spaced out more than once and swam into the wall But to break up the boredom I also race the people in the lanes around me, they just don't know it
  14. Once you get and feel comfortable in the water, everything else falls in to place. As for fitness, it generally comes pretty quickly. Or at least I tell myself that - I started again last night after a 6 month hiatus, and I'm totally broken today.
  15. Number 1 is breathing. It may also help to get a pair of flippers, but the short ones, will help you concentrate more on your stroke/form/breathing and not to have to worry too much about the kicking.
  16. Do swimming sets, ie break down the distance in to 100m/200m/400m So if you're currently swimming 2:00/100m, do 5 x 100m @ 2:15 - will give you 15 sec rest before starting the next 100m. Similarly, do 5x200m @ 4:20 or 4:30 will give you 20-30 secs rest. Forgot to add, the idea is to do them consistently, so don't go balls to the wall the first one and then the rest of them suffer, you want to swim them all at the same pace. You can get more ideas here for workouts: http://mastersswimworkoutsbysaramclarty.blogspot.co.za/ As for the second point, practice, practice, practice
  17. From FB: PLEASE NOTE: Hoogekraal and Meerendal will be closed from Saturday 10am through to Sunday 2pm. All other trails will be open.
  18. They're going to go over the Burry Stander section and then up the Dortsberg single track then over the quarry in to Hoogekraal, do Hoogekraal minus the cobra and then back up past the primary school through the fields and climb Stairway to Heaven before heading in to the pump track and then the finish. Hope that makes sense. I was planning on going to chill up the Dortsberg single track always a good spot cheering as they climb.
  19. @Grondpad, the only thing to possibly verify is that if you take any electronics/appliances with that it's compatible with the electrical loading in Aus, otherwise to buy converters is going to send you back a pretty penny.
  20. I saw that. I did the points calculation that they have that you can check before you do your EOI and I get 125, so with a job offer, I should be in relatively easily. It's just the whole figuring out which side of the pond I'm going to bail to.
  21. Do they need any civils? Hehehe... We've just been toying with the idea of looking at NZ
  22. What is the job security like in NZ? And also, how is the work/life ratio? Are they go-go-go all the time with work or more relaxed like SA?
  23. From the sounds of it the fall you had a year ago did more damage than just to your helmut But it's your head, your choices
  24. We watched Dead Pool last night. Totally kickass! I loved the references to all the old movies that he's previously starred in. The bridge fight scene in the beginning was shot here in Cape Town in case anyone was wondering.
  25. Just do one thing at a time and slowly. Ie, slowly brake, slowly turn the wheel, slowly accelerate. If you get stuck, you can generally get out if you "rock" the car, ie move forward and backward until you can get traction again.
