Oh and on Chrispy and BMC's discussion on the junior gears - those things work on my nerves - i get to 54km/h on the flats and then i can't ride anymore because the gears just can't! But in the last month or so i finally get the hang of it and now i'm not racing...grrrrr! The restricted gears are to protect the growing muscles from damage in the long run. And more importantly to teach you to spin! He who spins the fastest wins!!!! In Europe if you buy a bike for a youngster the Bike shops automatically changes the gears to the specific age category. In South Africa no one cares unless you ask for it.
Just to correct you: The group is actually a combined one. Juniors (U18) and U16. PPA refuses to split the 2 groups so they both race for the same place. Juniors with 52X14 gears and U16 with 52X16 gears. So theoratically you can have in the Summer League a 1st year U16 (14 years old) racing against a 2nd year Junior of 18 years old. Makes a lot of sense hey
It is the sponsors or clubs that provide the shirts. Most don't have "Casual clothes". A Blazer???? This was a cycling prizegiving not the Broederbond meeting. Invitation through the clubs. Sorry that you were not on the "A"list of your club. Go get on your bike and start training - maybe you can get a prize next year if you perform
Going down Blaauwberg road on 2 Sundays ago, a taxi came past me and 3 youngsters and.................stops right in front of us to pick up someone. I stopped and re-arranged his side mirror and told the kids not to follow my example! But I got satisfaction.
[i think in most instances its a matter of sour grapes. RR has handed out too many beatings in the league, at provincials and nationals and most recently the selati tour. He breached the very basic rules. No such thing as sour grapes. Rules are rules.
Suppose you can't please everyone BUT: SA's Track and Road a week apart?????????? Then you have a Junior track training camp the same time as SA Road Champs???
