  1. How do you stop cheating?

By now plenty of people know the Sani route and, mostly, if you get off course there is a district road nearby. Perfect for 29'ers.

Why you would pay R6k for a race and miss out on the route does not make any sense...(talking about Sani2C)

  2. I rode with a Joule GPS and there was no problem following the bread crumb trail. It quickly let's you know that you are off course and like mentioned it is very easy to get back on course.

Most of the big turns where either marker or managed by Off road rescue, which I have to add, where superb!

  3. Ups and downs I am afraid, first this morning I received this pic of Emily where I am convinced she is smiling at us.

Then shortly after I heard she has now tested positive for billary, it will be a close call as her system is so weak but the vets reckon she has a 50/50 chance so we are all praying and hoping for more miracles. She has proven to be a tough cookie so if I know Emily she will fight this fight and win.

Please send positive thoughts her way.

    Any Update Ian?

Lack of suppression of circulating free fatty acids and hypercholesterolemia during weight loss on a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet

    Conclusions

In conclusion, our data indicate that a high-fat diet, instead of a calorie- and fat-restricted diet, increased LDL-cholesterol concentrations over 6 wk, and that this effect related at least in part to the lack of suppression of both fasting FFA and FFA measured hourly for 24 h. Despite this adverse effect, weight loss was not greater in the High Fat group. Thus, these data suggest that a high-fat diet may have adverse metabolic effects during active weight loss.

    note : In fact, there was a 2-fold increase in 24-h FFA within the High Fat group between baseline and 6 wk (mean ± SD high-fat change: 4486 ± 2293 μmol/L; P < 0.0001) and a significant difference in 24-h FFA between groups (mean ± SD high-carbohydrate 24-h FFA compared with high-fat 24-h FFA: 4798 ± 1373 compared with 9686 ± 1801 μmol/L, respectively; P < 0.0001)

So what does this mean? It means a HFLC diet liberates a lot more free fatty acids than a higher carb diet in your blood. If you are eating PUFA's, or have been eating them your whole life, these PUFA FFA are preferentially liberated and they are highly oxidising causing a multitude of metabolic problems over time.

FFA also cause insulin resistance and increased blood glucose.

I see more and more articles saying that Cholesterol is not the problem, but rather inflammation and we should focus more on what causes the inflammation. What are you thoughts?

  5. I have been keen on trying some home made mayonnaise, but a lot off recipes on the internet suggests using grain oils like sunflower or canola, which I am not to keen on. Organic virgin olive oil on the other hand apparently gives the mayonnaise a strange not so lekker taste. What would be a good alternative? Was thinking of avocado oil as it's ratios WRT MUFA's, PUFA's and saturated fatty acids are comparable to that of OVOO. What's more avocado oil has quite a neutral taste.

Apparently the best is to use bacon fat. I have not tried it, but there are recipes flying around on the internet.

  6. Anyone tried the new Nespresso flavors, I got an email saying the new Kazaar and Dharkan Grand Cru's are in store.? Quite high intensity of 12 and 11 respectively.

I need some more pods so I was thinking of trotting over to Sandton and trying them.?

Did not even know there are new flavours, just sent my brother to go get!
