Wow - must get this taped. I did the Adventure and can not recommend it highly enough. Sure - if racing's your thing and you think you're going to podium or beat your mate go for the race. BUT the vibe on the adventure was awesome - exactly what I missed in the Epic, where everyone seemd intent and overtaking you at all costs, as if coming 334th rather than 335th mattered. In the Sani2c adventure people 'raced' or didn't and no-one cared' it was all about fun and sharing a great ride together.

Whatever you've been on till now. I presume you've got a saddle that doesn't leave holesin y our ar*&e, otherwise you would have changed it by now - great, cause that's what you want. Changing now is asking for trouble...

Can you open it in TC? If not - try reinstall the Garmin USB driver - on the upgrade some of the USB port links may be lost.

Here's my take on the negatives of the various pedals I've tried: Time (currently using them and have been my main pedal) Poor SA service The change to the flat springs was a mistake - not as durable as the old round ones (but they've changed back on the Roc's - just not sure one 'needs' the bigger platform) Eggbeaters The platform is too small for me. Poor durability (though rebuildable). Can unclip if you hit a rock with the bottom of the pedal (enough to put me off ever using them) Spindle too long. Candy SL Kind of negates much of the plusses of the eggbeaters but without ridding of the negatives. Not for me. Shimano At the time I didn't like the mud clearance and difficult engagement, but I think that's been sorted and the M970's get great reviews. I've also tried flatties, Time Z pedals (still use them on my SS), Ritchey's.. I'm going to try the Looks next instead of a new set of Times or the Shimano's - hope I don't regret it, but they look promising.

Aaah - the 7 stanes trails. For 5 years Glentress and Innerleithen were my local trails. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvGvXJT05x8 Could well work here BUT - these world class trails and centres were funded by EU money (Bonny Scotland is considered a 'rural and poor' EU country and hence qualifies) to the tune of over 4 million Euros.

I hope this is for a Time trial! I don't want you anywhere near me in a bunch with no finger on a brake (sorry).

What are these tyres for? Racing, mucking about? Do you want light weight or long lasting? Dry or wet conditions or just an allround tyre? Are you concerned about size because they're for mud? #Pete#2008-01-29 03:04:41

I rode in J last year after a break - and had a great ride. IMO it's better to ride down the groups than be dropped and caught. Somewhere between F/G/H I think would be good. BTW, can one just start in a later group for the Argus on the day or does one need to change one's number?

I presume you mean 'Hayes'. They are hydraulic; sounds like a leak or air in system. The Sole brakes are single pistons calipers only. I wonder whether your LBS isn't just adjusting the pad without actually sorting the problem. I'm with GoLefty on this one (5 years in sunny Scotland is my 'mud' experience) Mud X is a great racing tyre for wet weather - rolls fastish for such a tyre and good in all kinds of wet weather. Not so good in pure mud, when I'd go for Panaracer Trailrakers. (don't think one can get them here though, other than from my garage stock) Conti xc 1.5's still an old reliable option. I'm going to ride on Scwalbe Nobby Nics 1.8/2.0's

I think the Trance is an awesome bike for value for money - just depends what you want it for. Anthem if you like to finish a course or hill climb 1st, Trance if you like to be at the bottom 1st. However for a 2nd hand bike I'd want a better fork for R15000
