  1. You guys need to bring in a few more AM Maxxis treads in 26" please. At the moment your local dealers are losing out to overseas mail order shops which still carry a far bigger range.
  2. I'd agree with the comments on tyre choices by Capricorn and ALLMTB above. I have just had a short love affair with a Rock Razor Snake Skin. Its done less than 1000km and I am afraid we have to part ways. My observations. 1. Doesnt hold air quite as well as my DHR2's; 2. Casing seems weaker than an HD Snakeskin I have used before; 3. Suffered 3 punctures on the weekend. Second time I was running 30 psi and managed to hole the tread and sidewall in one impact. It was a harsh impact into the sharp corner edge of a curb stone on a green belt trail. Managed to plug both even the one on the tyre bead... 4. I think this tyre is slightly too flexible and needs a stiffer casing. I was having to run higher pressures than the DHR from the start. So maybe EXO is abit better than Snakeskin. 5. Grip and speed were great both up and down hill - the side knobs work very well and braking and climbing traction were fine. So, will a SG version solve my problems? Anyone know where to find Maxxis 26er AM/DH tyres, in SA that is?
  3. I'd also like to try - but a fronty feels more natural to me because I do them into the pool. A foam pit would be the answer but don't know of any in Cape Town.
  4. Lovely stuff. Good to see some quality riding and video from KZN for a change. Need to do a road trip...
  5. I am think we should start a campaign to ban walkers and dogs from all the trails until they learn how to behave properly. They are vandals and clearly capable of violence. Their animals foul the environment and they do no trail maintenance or funding of the areas they walk in. How ironic when the shoe is on the other foot.
  6. Quite sad that such people exist. Treating walkers with respect becomes all the harder when you have rogues like this a**hole around. Not to mention the less than friendly but not as violent as this turd, grannies. Carrying a gun in the park is illegal as someone else has pointed out and the threat to the rider is also an offence, probably in terms of the Firearms Control Act.
  7. Because SANP have been super slow at getting the remaining super deadly dangerous life threatening trees cut down. The conditions until that happens require marshals to keep the naughty riders away from the danger zones (unexploded bombs and all). These guys don't work after hours presumably. On top of this SANP have gated the main access route and they lock it up - unlike before.
  8. That is properly steep. What is the time frame on opening the entrance up? Although DH1 looks very different, it rides pretty much the same as it used to. DH3 has a few more jumps packed into a smaller space. Before the fire you had a chance to gather yourself between them, now its a bit more intense and the jumps have gained a bit of height. I avoided a few on my one run down, but that's the fun of it - next time I'll go and hit another until I can manage a clean run... How about a Strava DH race one weekend... Vince can call it.
  9. I think Vasbyt is a bit of a let down for the reasons you mention. I also used to love that log drop feature. Its also too short and some of the fun stuff was in the lower 1/3 of the track that is off limits. That said, the new tracks eg Boulders now have far more fun stuff in them and make far better use of the terrain IMO. Two rock drop things on the ascent and a nice steep rock/wood rollover thing for instance. Cobra and Mamba are great IMO - Cobra especially as it is now a bit wider and has a few more features lower down. Work in progress is how to view Tokai I think and I am sure it will get better over time.
  10. Thought I saw some drop bars on that bike of his - Whats his name "The Road Dirty" or something?
  11. I did some go pro (hero3) at Tokai too, using a proper built in helmet mount. The footage was way more stable than before because the camera was mounted more firmly than on my old helmet, I think.
  12. I think Cobra is not open but it is also not closed, according to Deon's list. Just being worked on, so expect the unexpected perhaps?
  13. Nice. Now get a trail bike Donovan! You going to break that Swift!
  14. Thats a real black route descent - marked Blue because its a portage section. I bet someone will manage it - I won't even try unless I am wearing knee pads - lots of scope for painful slow speed crashes there...
  15. My wife and I duly coughed for annual permits on Tuesday and then rode the section from the Neck to Rhodes mem yesterday. The section in K Bosch is particularly lovely. It was surreal riding our bikes through an area we have previously walked through so many times. The section towards the NF end of the trail particularly good with the mountain looming close. Newlands Forest is also fun and has some proper rock gardens in it. Don't expect a friendly reception - the dog parents we encountered have a bad attitude. We were courteous and friendly but that wasn't good enough - we should have rung our bells too! Even though we saw the people in question at the same time they saw us! Duh! Oh, there is also the stench of dog feces when you enter Cecilia and no doubt on a bad day in NF too. All in all a lovely piece of trail that is surprisingly challenging all on its own. They call it a transit route but its actually a proper MTB ride in its own right.
  16. Ya precisely and that kind of comment is exactly how misinformation is spread. MTBers are the most passionate visitor group and put in more effort and money than any other.
  17. There are over 60 events listed. Does this make SA the most stage racey country on the planet?
  18. I need new Maxxis Minion DHR IIs please. In 26". Pics of well used and abused tyres to follow.
  19. Haha my local green belt trails in glorious colour. Just a few easy k's from home and surrounded by the mink and manure set, but you'd never know looking at the pics.
  20. The tyre with the most aggressive cornering ( and braking/center) knobs should be on the front as a general rule. Of the three you mention, the Purgatory is the least aggressive, so either the Ibex or the Butcher in my opinion.
  21. I'll be nice to it just for you. Besides my ankles don't enjoy some of the stuff the bike lets me get away with...
