  1. I like the Vision bars, got them from chain reaction for cheep cheep, I found them very comfy and easy to install. I wouldn't bother with clip on bars for draft legal races these are normally so short that there is probably little benefit, as you are likely to be sucking wheel the whole time anyway aero bars are pretty redundant.
  2. Wow, looks like a crazy course, well done Caveman, what a legend.
  3. the baggy pants brigade sure can ride
  4. The Dawg road a very impressive TT yesterday, being 2 secs up on Tony Martin at the second check was a damn good effort, little fade towards the end was nothing to speak of. On a day that no one got close to Martin shows that Froome has got some good guns under him. And that bike it was like stupid sexy!
  5. I am a bit disappointed that Discovery is associating with Tyler. I think TH was opportunistic in his "coming clean" his back was against the wall and he took a way out that allowed him to make some serious cash in the process. Bottom line, this guy is a liar and a cheat, did some profoundly unhealthy things and now gets on the Discovery gravy train. I agree with someone earlier Discovery should have rather brought out an untarnished new generation rider
  6. What is real person sizing? the normal loose flappy stuff available in sa or a more form fitting (read thin) European sizing?
  7. Respect the swim may be a more appropriate statement. Remember two fatalities this year (RIP). Do open water training, in some rough conditions if possible, train in your wetsuit as well. Dont underestimate a 2 km swim in difficult conditions.
  8. Get the fork, it will have the most impact on your riding, I did a similar upgrade and was very glad that I did the fork rather than brakes or groupset. The reba can be dialled really nicely to your weight and riding style. Your current fork has some pretty poor reviews when it comes to damping.
  9. Don't let someone on a Raleigh with clip on bars (or just drop bars) pass you on your P5, Slice or Plasma. Heaven help you if you are rocking an aero lid and you get smoked
  10. I cant see this being a viable business, problem is that buying Chinese is always going to be pretty niche in SA. There are a few guys happy to get some bikes and bits that way but not enough to make it a viable business, you need to be shipping big loads to cut the shipping costs and get discounts on stock. I dont feel in SA that there is the volume yet. I dont want to order a set of hoops through you, then have to wait for you to fill a half container or whatever, the wait for the stuff to land in SA, then have you post it to me. I would rather spend a bit more and either order myself, or get from CWC or chainreaction. My 2c worth. That being said what price can you get me on a 60 mm carbon clincher wheelset, I would prefer an alu brake surface? like the Planet X wheels. I can get the Planet X wheels here for about R7k
  11. Don't look at it as a prologue rather look at it as a short first stage, a 27 mtb ride is a good outing in most peoples book. It not like a 7 km tour de france prologue that the pros crack out in 7 minutes flat, you are going to be out there for 1:30 to 2:00. Flat out wont work, ride it below lactate threshold and you will be thankful the next day when you start with good legs. Remember the Epic approach is to have a large chunk of the field eliminated in the first two or three full stages.
  12. Stay away from Canal Walk then
  13. Can someone post a link to the sale, I want to get some epic kit
  14. probably just bad luck, nothing that you can do, occupational hazard.
  15. That's the problem THERE IS NO RULING. The matter has been withdrawn, i.e. it will not be heard (unless reinstated), and therefore there is no justice.
  16. What's amazing about this bike is.... wait oh nothing. Pity that they photographed it in that terrible cross-chained gear
  17. Go to bed early, Get up early, go to work at 7 am then head to the gym and sit on a bike while watching the TDF from 4pm or 4:30, do this for three weeks and you will be fit. I used to start my cycling season this way and it was a really good base
  18. Too short and too expensive. Its probably good for novelty value and a bit of fun but doest tickle my fancy.
  19. I would go for a road bike with a good set of clip on bars, IMO is not a great idea to have just a TT bike and a MTB because you just cant log the long road rides that you need for training on a TT bike, unless you have miles and miles of open roads and you ride alone. I have both and train at least 90% of the time on my road bike (MTB just fills in when I need a change of scenery). The benefit from training and racing on the same bike is greater than the slight aero boost that a TT bike will give you if you only train and race on it occasionaly
  20. Hey Terry, I hope she doesn't need that lifesaving device because of your suit Just kidding I have an Xterra suit and love it
  21. Go and see a sports nutritionist with the investment you have made in the Epic with entry fees, equipment etc... it is money worth spending, they can tell you should eat and drink while riding, give you a daily meal plan, tell you what you should use to recover depending on the type of workout and what you want to do while racing. Try see one of the sports nutritionist at the Sports Science institute, when I did the Epic this was the best few Hundred Ronts that I spent, I still use the advise that she gave me for Ironman etc...
  22. The 2XU suits are pretty good, I think cyclelab sells them. On sinking legs this is a technique issue that you really need to sort out. Swimming in a suit to address this issue is like riding on training wheels
  23. Call Cape Cycle Systems, they are the agents and may be able to do it for you, or they could recommend an approved service person
  24. I love these "tuck-shops" in transition Why buy an aero bike and then stuff up the aerodynamics by taping all sorts of junk on the frame?
