  1. Doesn't sound like a forced stop, you can roll through if you want. I think its a good idea for the social teams. It will be interesting to see if the racing teams will stop.
  2. Was just on The Science of Sport website, this ad popped up, funny EPO Cyclist Supplements Fastest Way to Increase Your Endurance and Speed - Guaranteed! www.EPOBoost.com
  3. Not everyone is happy with just OK
  4. This is about as surprising as finding out that it hurts to slam your head in a door. I wish the other pro's out there would keep it lipped, its not like they are beyond reproach either. Shouting your mouth off at the first opportunity seems a bit like a kid with a box of smarties in his jocks telling the shop owner that his mate just nicked a lollypop.
  5. My kids have seem me wearing my lid since the day they were born (well not quite, the wife wouldn't let me ride those days), I bought them helmets as soon as they got the little plastic bikes and wear them everywhere except when they do laps around the living room and in the garden. Its never been an issue, it just a case of helmets go with bikes. I taught my son that no helmet means no brain, which he likes to repeat to cyclists when he sees them without a pip pot.
  6. just wait for Ride magazine to put out that "8 weeks to your best Argos" training plan and use that (but on a mountain bike)
  7. Bottom line for me is that this was a very bad reaction from USN, I used to use their products, but dropped them as soon as the Chilliboy / Bason poopstorm hit and I did some research. My impression is that they cannot defend their position and therefore went on the attack. What is super dangerous is that some parents are not very well educated and will see a product designed for children, by a well known (sponsored the Boks) and assume it is safe. There is a good reason that I keep my supplements in a locked cupboard and my kids know that they are "dad's medicine", I treat my supplements as if they are drugs, to be taken responsibly. Another concern that I have is that there may be cross contamination with other blends when USN produce the children's supplement. Get your kids on this stuff and you are going to have a nightmare getting them off, just like a fast food addiction.
  8. My advice, non medical, go see a good physio and get proper rehab and do those silly exercised with stretchy bands and the like. See where that takes you. I have just done 6 months of shoulder rehab after broken shoulder, so it can be long and frustrating, but I am pretty much right now. No-one will cut me unless it is the last resort in the world, once the surgeons start on tricky joints like the shoulder they seem to need to keep going back for more.
  9. Absolutely horrible. RIP brother. I hope someone can post a name to put my mind at rest. I used to cycle along Main Road between Kalk Bay and Muizenberg very often, now I only cycle in a southerly direction as there is a bit more space, due to the parking embayments on the eastern side of the road. I find that cycling north is just too unsafe, I now trek over Boyes Drive and would encourage other cyclists to do the same. Otherwise on the dangerous bits, make sure you cycle though quickly and own your section of road, even if that means riding a metre from the kerb, which you are allowed to do.
  10. However I can without the wife finding out. Normally Credit Card
  11. Its not about the arrow. Its about the Indian. Bottom line don't expect to get more speed out of a 29'er. The speed comes from your legs
  12. I mix up a smoothy with some frozen banana, milk or yoghurt, berries, futalife for some carbs and add some whey protein. Cheaper and tastes far better than any of those premixed concoctions.
  13. Sadly because chappies carries far lower volumes of traffic than most roads, so many cyclists feel safer and think that they get something of a free pass to ride abreast, take up the "whole" road etc... I ride chappies plenty, its on many of my regular loops from my house and there are plenty of transgressors. But they are no worse than the bikers, tearing up the road, tour busses cutting corners, motorists speeding, or inching along looking at the view, I can go on. Because it is a toll road there is no traffic enforcement whatsoever. The operators need to get a handle on the stretch of road that they control, and not just bleat at us, the soft targets.
  14. try putting the wheel back on the bike
  15. weighing 100 kgs is going to put some pressure on your behind. As you train three things will happen, 1 you will lose some weight, 2 your butt will toughen up and 3 your legs will get stronger and while pedalling your legs will support your weight more. These will all result in less pain.
  16. Look for something with a relaxed head tube angle, and quite an upright seatube, so that you can clip aerobars on and hopefully keep the handling ok. Go with the smallest frame size that fits you for tri.
  17. If my wife found out I spent over R4k on cycling shoes I wouldn't be riding at all, on account of the broken kneecaps
  18. Perhaps on the single speed? just for fun or for a 24 hour race. Wont be a fixture
  19. My guess would be manufacturing fault, I have hammered my pedals in some big falls and there has been no damage at all, I just dont think that the pedal creates enough leverage to bend the axle, especially with the lateral flexibility of the bb area.
  20. In order of value Floor pump Chain Cleaner PPA membership
  21. I placed an order, normal shipping with no tracking, on 6 September, was dispatched on 7 September, arrived 19 September. Was very happy. I was a bit stressed about it arriving , but no probs
  22. I was thinking that this would have been a great idea when I took my kids on their bikes down there a few weeks ago, the little criminals shouldn't have been riding there I know, but I was hoping that they would get locked up and give the ball and chain and I a night off, but I digress. I am very worried that the place is going to be flooded by cyclists loving the novelty of riding where they have previously been banned and ripping up and down with impunity. This could create a negative backlash from a very conservative grouping there, heaven forbid that Mrs Goldstein's Maltese gets flattened by a racing snake on an s-works
  23. Seriously another red traffic light thread? Bottom line, you didn't like what the group that you were with were doing, so don't ride with them again. You are not going to educate / change the behaviour of a group of 20 riders by shouting from the back of the bunch, frankly this would just hack off most riders. Cyclist are going to jump lights, this will never change, same as riding two abreast and the rest of the other petty infractions that people bleat about.
  24. Enticement, I need some tips on conditioning my digestive system to cope with the rigours of the epic and the stress that riding and eating & drinking supplements places on my gut
  25. Does anyone know if the strawberry flavour has allergens in it which are different to the plain or choc flavour? or if the recipe has been changed recently?
