  1. What - is this great idea dying a slow death now just as I was considering joining the rides. Clearly not many did the 99er last year in wind and rain. Its my fitness, weight & speed I'm "chicken" of - not wind and rain (of course it might make me even slower though!)
  2. Old technique of people going to the front at bottom of climb so that they don't lose too much ground by the top. The better climbers overtake on the climb but at the top the slower climbers have not lost as much distance as they would have if they started the climb at the back. Of course I personally have never tried this....
  3. Mmm - don't tell me everyone is also getting chicken as well
  4. Quote of "word" on "Easton AscentII vs Mamparas Equinox" thread: "mampara, put them on your bike and see how they spin. I tried last night (rode them on saturday) and I swear that I could have probably spun the front wheel, gone to make a cup of coffee and come back and the wheel would have still been spinning."
  5. Easy stuff. Oh Sh*t - i forgot you're going to cycle !!!
  6. Thx - Still chicken but no longer feeling like a loser a) C vs S - yes, the thread will go north - to Nigeria b) I was thinking of compact and 12-25 but it is a little difficult to get and can get a good deal on triple. Triple's seem to be easier to get in these groupsets.
  7. I rode with my Easton Vista SL's on the weekend after using Campy hubbed wheels before - immediately noticed that very quiet and smooth and no "swarm of bees" sound whcih was VERY strange
  8. OK - so its 3 chickens and no advice - I am going to feel like a total loser soon
  9. What about the "coffee break" test ?
  10. What - so many knowledgeable people yet no advice. Or are we charging now At least give me the satisfaction of a debate on shimaNO 105 vs Campy Veloce But no - 1 hour and all I have is: nothing, nada, zip, niks njet, aikona, eish..
  11. You forgot to add: SAT SUN MON racman chicken chicken chicken
  12. OK, So I am starting my favorite cycling past time again - researching a bike build. ( I sometime forget about the actual cycling bit in the research process) I am starting to research the bike build for my wife. Although she has not trained for about three years, I am going to build a reasonable bike. I am currently looking at 105 or veloce groupset and need advice on the this aspect. She is 1.6m tall and weighs 53kg. Do I get a std double or compact or triple crankset for her? (and why) racman2007-09-18 04:53:43
  13. why don't you get a list going for each day etc with who's in or out
  14. Fandacious - thinking about it but seriousley don't want to hold up anyone.
  15. Keen, but will probably slow everyone down as 1st ride in 5 months. Maybe next time. (after I've moved from M to F seeding and joined the elite) (Hey BMC Fan - check your "pm" box and reply please)
  16. I think it's the knee that's causing all the pain
  17. I must admit I am looking forward to building the bike up for her as I have just finished mine (no - not an Orbea) so will need to source advice from the hub on components etc. We have pretty much decided on Campag Mirage (probably compact) groupset and I purchased a Selle Italia Lady Gel Flow from CWC last week - looks great. They have the SLC Lady Gel flow as well but out of our budget and does not look as comfortable. (I still find it amazing how everyone is suddenly raving about how great the new Trek Madone is when it looks like they have just copied the Orbea Orca )racman2007-07-30 08:14:07
  18. Thx Nellie & Orca - have looked at the web site and they look gr8!! I am sure I saw a pic you posted of yours sometime Nellie ( with the "illegal" back wheel I think!!) I noticed that the USA market seems to get a totally different color scheme to ours (orbea-usa.com).
  19. Thx - had a look on Saturday but she was not impressed with the look etc. The question I was asked was why us males (and I presume the bike designers) always think that a woman's bike must be all "girlie looking". Apparently woman also want bikes that look purposefull and "mean" and cool, and don't need a bike to look like you would cover the seat with a "doilie" - don't blame me, I never said it!!!
  20. Nellie, I had a sneaky suspicion that you would be the first reply - thx What colors are available ?
  21. Mampara - I did get a RavX carbon seatpost but I was hesitant to say so in case it was even more uncool. Was considering getting carbon Easton & Ritchey but the prices .... The difference in what I paid for all three items enabled me to upgrade to a Polar Cs200 and get a new pair of cycling shoes!!!
  22. How to start a hot thread - mention the word "Carbon". How to kill a thread - mention "RavX" or "BBB"
  23. Who is Robbie Himslef? (probably some obscure Russion/Swedish cycling commentator - that's why nobody took any notice of his prediction!!)
