  1. Clothing should be bought from your LBS, but haggle them as far as possible. That way they'll keep smiling when you visit and forgive you for buying your equipment at the best-priced shop.
  2. I agree with the notion of avoiding steep hills for prolonged hill training: Find one with a fair grade and use gearing to make it harder. IMO rhythm is more important than brute force. Anyone (apart from Cox) tried Tom Jenkins with a 53x11?
  3. Oh, that should translate to: Passion for all things Italian, above all else. Stupid Google translate thingy.
  4. Yep, and we thought the Indians were good sales people! I think there's an Italian saying that goes something like: The passion for style makes up for the lack of engineering skill. Or something like that, certainly seems applicable to Alfa Romeo! Passione per tutto l'italiano di cose soprattutto altrimenti!
  5. Right, so back we go to Wolv... Congrats on the upgrade! I think the Chorus (silver) looks better on the Orbea, but I'm confused about where the R800 from the Thule went? Coincidence that Record brakes cost R800 more? *Drools profusely* Nice camera! Nice carbon bits! Nice ti bits f%^$#^ I need a paycheck...now!
  6. I'm [celeste] green with envy...PLEASE take pics and post!
  7. Nope, Hiberneer is uit - Ek het vanoggend die 4 deg temp probeer en 1.5h gehou... Muur skeef? Ek d0nner daai bouers!
  8. In my opinion: - Single rider: probably not doing too much for endearing cyclists in the mind of the public. Heck, I'd get irate! - Bunch: By all means and where can I find such a group (*rhetorical*) I had two great experiences with motorists over the weekend where on both occasions they could easily have taken me out (& plead the "I did not see him" line). Instead they waited for me to ride/pass in front of them Mr Pajero (at Fountains circle) and Mrs Landrover (Nelmapius, Irene): I salute you.
  9. f^^n awesome! En ek dog jy is landuit vir die winter...
  10. Yep, Bora's & Record... And yes, it'll cost plenty extra!
  11. Q, also check out the Solis here (https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=13570). Comes with DA and some bling carbon goodies and I'm sure the price will be negotiable. Might be too small, but check your sizing...I ride a 48 sloping/52 traditional and we seemed to be about the same size?
  12. Luckily its equiped with Campy...
  13. Against your intuitive stance: Take it to a shop - that way you can scream at someone when it gets stuffed up. 7.7?! *Gawk*
  14. Bad ride, then?
  15. Forgive the young ones, oom H. Thanks for the info...
  16. Wolv/Maparra: You're too funny! I'm starting to understand what I'm doing wrong with my cycling... I wasn't planning on going to the Shova, but might just consider it...*lightbulb* I can cancel my life insurance and use the saving to pay for the trip!
  17. I used to drool over these years ago...not too fond of the latest colour scheme though (unless you have a yellow Colnago). Have to agree with TH on the sound of Campy freewheels...*goose bumps* Why are you considering only Shamals? What else are you considering? What kind of price range?
  18. Hmm, interesting idea, Witrot. What about someone who joins, has sore knees (hypo), post a question and gets replies to which he needs to reply to get correct advice? He'll blow his x-post-quota in no time. There's a natural tendancy for newbies to keep to themselves and check things out. Make comments where they can, or ask questions about buying/selling/fixing cycling-related stuff. Others (like myself) like to get involved and feel it out that way. Either should be endorsed if you want to avoid creating a specific culture on a public forum. My quess is that if you create a culture of respect (and remember the mods/admin can enforce this by warning posters with posts out of line), ID/ban double-identity-dudes you'll probably stop the newbies from taking over.
  19. My suggestion: If you're suspected of double-id (other hubbers report this to mods/admin), mods/admin request that you verify your new ID. Failing to do this within a reasonable timeframe results in banning. Set it out in the rules when signing up. You don't like it, don't register on The Hub.
  20. Mods & Admin: This is not a popularity contest. Make the rules (within reason & legal constraints), publish those and enforce it. End of story. If someone violates these rules through a post, the post gets reported and admin/mods issue a warning. Third warning & you're banned. No why's or explaining by the mods. Just enforcing of the rules. Otherwise, I think its a great site - thanks for the effort to keep it going!
  21. Hi Bobbie, welcome & stuff. If I can add my 2c: I'd recommend the Fuji for its carbon fork (comments above) adjustable stem: she's gonna buy on initial comfort and will need to make setup changes as she becomes more comfartable on the bike. This typically the newbie rider from relatively upright to a more stretched out position. I'd hunt for a bike with 2006 or prior parts on and negotiate a good price on it. Alternatively get her to wait a month or two and buy Tiagra/105 spec. This will generally be accompanied by higher spec wheels and other kit as well. So mostly: What they said! Good luck and keep us posted on what she decides
