  1. there is this guy who is giving wierd advice that works on another thread..........
  2. Eldron makes a good point when he says that by "banning" a rider you have only prevented him from participating in ONE avenue of making money or ONE possible income stream. In many professions failure to abid by the rules of the profession are even more dire. In the case of Advocate Barbie and Dirkie, their diversification into the Porn and armed robbery industry have resulted in them being debarred, arrested ext. Hell, if a guy SIGNS into an agreement, shows support for the lifestyle choices ext, and then is caught breaking the most serious and most policed of the rules, how can he then continue to gain financial advantage from that lifestyle? On a very crude point, who would send their kids to a school where there is a teacher with an assualt conviction? who would allow his wife to go to a gyni with a malpractice suit outstanding? who would trust a politician who has shown dishonesty in the past (don't answer that one please) The same for a professional cyclist. How can we trust a cyclist who has totally disregarded the code of conduct for cycling? (it is his job to know the code of conduct.) But again it is not the end of the world for him, all he has to do is follow the path of previously famous sportsmen in South Africa, write a book, release a song, start a church, start a newspaper or magazine, star in a home porn movie, open a coffee shop, apologise again.........
  3. My wife is also doing the 12km and I get the kids for the morning. Will take the GAzebo and make breakfast while she rides.
  4. now for all the blue bull supporters, after what the Tshwane municipality has suggested for this team, maybe change the blue testicles on your bakkies for blue camel toes?

  6. use GEAX tyres. Also you can use insulation tap or self fusing tap to seal the rims (If the rims are tubeless this may be unnecessary. MAssacre a valve of a road tube or a olf mtb tube. Just set it tight and use that little "nut" which we all throw away to ensure it stays tight. Also for the first fill use a whole bottle of sealant, ore double the recommended to be safe.

    back 2 topic pls
  8. there is very little heavy sand. It is an illusion caused by the ascent, it only feels like heavy sand, but you are actually climbing. Most of the race/ride is hard pack, so tyre pressure can be a bit on the hard side. THE atmosphere at the start and finis is good. TAke your GAzebo, wife and braai for an after ride kuier.
  9. no the Epic is an elitist fun ride for people with too much money and time. Entry to the epic for your LBS owner and his mate results in the prices of all his goods to sky rocket every year. For mere mortals with 9-5 jobs, the epic was not designed.
  10. The cost is rather expensive, and even morte worrying is that the prices vary tremendously between organisers. Furthermore, it seems that bigger the sponsor the more expensive the race. Yes we have all hear how expensive road closure, access right to land, labour ext are. We are also partially to blame as cyclists. How many of these races are comercial undertakings with the slant on making profit? THe Rooiwal races and GNC league races are a lot less expensive. Why? because most of the labour is done by volunteers and club members. So if you want cheaper races, the join a club and help organise them. The next thing is to rather take up running which is cheaper or even chess which will knock you R180 for a 6 rounds 90-90minute tournament (or a whole weekend's play). Golf is how much for a round? Comparing prices is another way of looking at it. A tube costs almost R50, chain lube R90, a chain between R300-R600 tyres at R 500+. So what is R180 for someone with Bora wheels at R10 000? VAlue and cost is relative.

As the convener of the Tour de Klapperkop I would like to know who would be interested for such a ride (Klapperkop four different ways, think of it like the Kumasuntra on a bicycle). So please post name and available dates so that I can start opening the calender. Also a groenkloof ride (include the kids) on a saterday afternoon sounds good (maybe degrenerates into a lap or two after dark as well). Again names and dates so that we can open diaries and co-ordinate. (Also if the night ride is wanted I will need that numbers and names to confirm with Groenkloof, remember the use of the lapa is R40 a head and not R20 normal entry)
  12. Now that I am back at work, I have started with the short commute. I decided that one gear is enough, so the single speed has become the weapon of choice. However, as I work on top of that hill in Pretoria, I use light gears to get to work and then coast home. THis is great until I meet up with other cyclists on the way. Then I get the wonderful training of a cadency of over 150 just to get some form of power to the wheels. Oh well the solution is to use heavier gears and then really suffer in the mornings...........
  13. sorry to hear mate. where did it happen, wht was the modus operandi ext?
  14. enjoy the rain
  15. oh whoopee. the grammar and spelling police. This is some people's only opportunity to learn how to spell and string words together into semi coherent phrases and you go and bash them? Really they need all the practice they can get before they write that technical manual about teh RSA economy.
  16. no. on the best road is the suicide high way (old joburg road) on a mtb be very wary of routes through centurion especially Smuts house area.
  17. I found this great website when I was in East London. It details a number of route in the EAstern Cape. Obviously for the GPS tracks ext there is a price..... A mere R20 to R30 per route. great value for money. http://www.easterncapemountainbiking.co.za/index.php?page_name=home

  19. U forgot point 10: buy expensive motorbikes and cars, and point 11: support a substance habit or therapy for bi polar, depression or ADD or however stress is diagnosed these days (as a famous comedian and LA fan said cocaine is God's way of telling you you have to much money) (joke people) and point 12: yearly overseas vacation and point 13: cape epic entry and lastly point 14: sponsor all your friends. oops sorry it their money, they worked hard to earn it and I should not expose or speculate how it is spent.
  20. I am in for the ride at least. the wife and kids may want in on the braai.
  21. .....don't you see.....it takes me some time to correct my grammar.... must be as a result of me not picking my nose all those years back tip three: surgeon general warns that picking your nose while cycling may be dangerous... Also picking your nose while typing may contribute to grammatical errors.....Canaris2009-12-09 08:25:45
