  1. Are you referring to Renosterspruit north of Lanseria? Will be really cool if these two are connected.
  2. Enjoyed the race, thought it had a nice flow to it and just difficult enough to make it a challenge. Need more races like this in Gauteng area.
  3. Summit Cycles in Midrand - good deals and great service.
  4. Hi Kandui, how do I get to the top of Groenlandberg? Don't know Grabouw at all.
  5. Saw them in the 'further' part of KK, carrying what looked like small backpacks. Was seriously impressed with where they were running.
  6. Entered for the 6hr solo. See you guys there. I'll be on a black/gold Stumpjumper.
  7. Thanks for letting me know. Would have ended up there on Saturday.
  8. Rouxtjie, same reason I like KK, can ride there and back. Think I'll visit Avianto this weekend.
  9. Kings Kloof has great riding. I normally ride alone, but try to minimise the risks. Had to walk out once. How is Avianto? Did the 12 hr there a few years ago, trails weren't great.
  10. Thanks gentlemen, that helps to set my mind at ease. I don't intend racing, just want to finish. However, everyone tells me how tough it is and that made me think I may not be training enough. Vinnydabutcher, yes most of it is on the bike and includes a long ride (5-6 hours) over the weekend.
  11. Tim, can't load the Ultra profile on the Advendurance site. Could you please post it here?
  12. Hi Hubbers Entered for the Cape Pioneer Trek. My longest stage race before was Sabie Experience (4 days). Are there any experienced Pioneer Trek riders (or other long stage races such as Epic, J2C) who want to share their training and race experiences? I am especially interested in the volume of training other riders do, as I am a bit worried that I am not doing enough (currently riding 12 - 14 hours p week).
  13. Same here.
  14. Hi IQ I've done two training blocks at Fourways, now busy with the third. They have 12 week blocks of base or race training (alternating). It seems to work for me. Cost is R2100 for a training block.
  15. Entered for my second Attakwas. Hope I was in time for the T-shirt.
  16. Is this ride still on? If yes, can I join the ride at late notice?
  17. 80mm on the Small, the rest are 90mm. This is a Medium.
  18. Hey mcg, nice bicycle! Here is another, built by that 120kg rider.
  19. An elite MTBer who can't climb well - now there is a novel idea. Or am I missing something?
  20. I have the usual Stans Crest/Hope hub/DT Swiss spokes combination as well as AC Race (29) wheels. Found the AC Race wheels to be at least as good as the Crests. The ACs weigh the same as my 26 Crests.
  21. Attakwas in January heat - no contest!

Weighed in the shop: 9.3kg with pedals. Medium size frame. I was suprised at how light it is.

My new bicycle. Been riding it for 6 weeks, love it. I was apprehensive about changing to 2 x 10, but after two or three rides I prefer this setup. Thanks to Anton and Ivo (spelling?) at Summit Cycles for sourcing and building.
  24. Hi Dandee, I changed to a 29er HT about 4 weeks ago. My other bikes are a 26 HT and a 26 FS. I was quite sceptical about the advantages of 29ers. After two marathons and two weekends of fun riding, I am a convert. I also changed to a 2 x 10 setup with the new HT. Was a bit concerned about climbing, and it did take about a week to get used to it, but now I love it.
  25. Lukep, I owned a Jeep for three years. Nothing but trouble and bad service. I compare this to other SUVs I owned: Land Rover, Prado, Pajero x 2. The Jeep was in the garage more often than not. The dealerships in Jhb have a don't care attitude towards service. They really do think they are doing you a favour, which might have been more palatable if they could fix the vehicles' defects, of which there were many! I have several horror stories I could relate, but google "Jeep death wobble". I eventually sold the vehicle with low kms because it was just plain unsafe. Have a look at the JD Power and Synovate ratings and speak to owners of newer models, then have a rethink.
