  1. Now that we've seen the specs of the Trail 5 with hydraulic brakes what would a bike at that level with similar specs cost from Silverback/titan/giant etc?
  2. Perfect his and hers Xmas pressie , maybe for the in-laws?
  3. Does anyone have any experience with fabric coffee filters? I got the Abid Clever dripper deal from Truth Coffee a while back and ordered some cloth filters with it. The coffee it made always tasted a little weird and I just assumed it was the taste of that brew style, stopped using it a while after getting it because it was bleh. Then recently on YouTube I saw a batrista showing how to do a pourover coffee and he mentioned he first poured water over the paper filter to get rid of the paper taste, then the light went on(the fabric filter may be introducing some flavour) and I decided to get some paper filters and try the Clever dripper with those. I did that and now the coffee tastes good, normal. So the weird flavour was coming for the fabric filters, tried boiling the filter with bicarb, washing it with kitchen soap and boiling again, nothing helped they still give a weird flavour to the coffee. Is there anything else I can try?
  4. Sounds a little pricy, what exactly do they wrap for that price?
  5. Is that like a next level aeropress?
  6. Apparently the Image stabilisation and auto focus mechanism's on some phone's cameras can also be damaged by all the shaking when mounted on a motorbike. Probably best to have a mount that has some amount of vibration damping built in to the design.
  7. Ag nee, nothing worse than that split second when you have to decide to catch a falling bike or not(nevermind even a heavy one) and you decide to do it, take it on the chin and naturally it moers you properly. What can you really do, let it drop, all that love and attention scratched/dented to hell, ai worst one. Hope you heal up soon bru.
  8. Kim Jongs secret weapon. Broadcast it on primetime TV, ideally during a segment of Hannity on Fox, start riots all over the modern world and eventually WIII. The nukes have been a false flag operation and only Trump has enough experience with misogyny to save us [emoji14]
  9. Insurance on those must be pretty steep, those old VW buses sell for around R200k these days, maybe even be more. And the engines are still as rubbish/under powered as they always have been..
  10. How do those bike carriers work relative to the ball weight that towbars are designed to carry, something like 100kg max vs a 200kg bike?
  11. The aeropress is unbeatable both in value/price and the coffee they produce. From all reports the handpresso is unfortunately a gimmick, they may work a few times but after a while they become a pita or just plain useless. Don't go cheap on the grinder, it's like flushing money down the toilet.
  12. My brother had an invader, weren't they glorified Pnp specials, probably not worth spending much money on?
  13. Assume that the bike will be totally screwed after a few months of consistent beach riding. Make sure it's a beater!!
  14. So if I did it now I could change my forum nick to Shebeen??Mmmm
  15. That's a very good point!
  16. If you wear Large in Fox full finger gloves what size in these Farr gloves?
  17. Reported this post to Matt, said he's thinking a perma ban may be in order [emoji52][emoji6]
  18. Try soaking the filter in lemon juice or vinegar a few times + boiling water. Actually what finally worked was lots of lemon juice + water in a small pot(enough to completely cover the filter) and boiled on the stove. Then once its dry hold the filter in between finger + thumb of one hand and flick it with your finger of the other hand to dislodge the last stubborn bits. I had my able metal aeropress filter block up from not rinsing it off immediately after use and that was what eventually unblocked it.
  19. An oil change on a bike is such a simple job I'd rather halve the service interval and change the oil myself and still save a good grand too boot, especially considering fresh oil will save seals and reduce wear so could very easily also make the cost of ownership cheaper in the long run.
  20. Must be, do they charge 2hrs labour to do a motorcycle oil change? That's similar pricing I've seen at dealers for a car oil change, except they use 5L of fully synthetic oil and it's probably a more time consuming job than on a bike, certainly needs more floor space which is an added cost.
  21. What makes an oil service cost R1500 and R1900? The 690 Duke uses 1.7L of 10W60 oil + oil filter. 5L of very high quality fully synthetic oil isn't much more than R500 at retail, are the oil filters stupid expensive or something?
  22. Also good for when the bike invariably gets dropped the prerequisite amount of times, small bikes don't fall quite as hard, easy to lift and much cheaper to repair. First time I let my mate have a try on the Xt200 I had at the time he pulls off straight into a wheely falls off and we watch the bike slither off down the hill on its side, luckily only torn seat and smashed indicators/mirrors, the joy.
  23. The tall skinny stainless steel Hario look great, the form factor is perfect, easy to hold in your hand when grinding and they fit inside an aeropress if you want to travel with one. I had the Chinese clone, awesome just the burrs were badly aligned so I gave up, the Hario won't have that issue. Those look good, I'd also prefer metal burrs, something robust enough to last a lifetime of use and abuse.
  24. Spanjaard makes a nice size tube of silicone grease for R80, I got mine at the local Midas, not sure if it's food grade. If you Google it they have it listed on the spanjaard website.
  25. Just make sure your budget is right, a good 2hnd grinder will easily set you back R2-4k but could last you the rest of your life so still great value. A good manual grinder is going to set you back close to R1k and from my experience I'd rather have week old grinds that were ground by a proper grinder than freshly ground coffee done by a rubbish grinder. There is no free lunch with grinders, you either score a good one 2hnd at a good price or pay the premuim for new, the cheapie manual or electric grinders are not worth the money you pay, they will grind poorly from day one and they will not last, it's like flushing money down the drain.
