  1. Where's his thread going to 😝 Let's get a housewife from Silver Lakes to sort this guy out. The one I have in mind "detailed" her hubby's Ferrari with a baseball bat after some mild domestic issue .................. Imagine what carnage she will leave behind if this lycra-clad redneck crosses her path while she's strolling her pooooooooooodle.
  2. OP was interviewed on RSG this morning just after 06:00. The call to flush out this dingbat seems to be gaining momentum. Life in general would be sooooooooooo cool without these "roaches" Shame .................... I suppose he was bullied by the girl across the street 😵
  3. Built myself a gravel monster with a 94 Gary Fisher 26er. Rigid steel fork. Converted the 26 rim brake wheels to tubeless. Group is Shimano 3x8 STI with cantilever rim brakes. Gravel bars up front. I have a 29er Carbon dual suss and a carbon Giant TCR roadbike. The 26er gravel bike is the best of em all. I could ride it all day long. When all's said - your personal preference is king.
  4. babse ......... Does the "slightly elder folk" refer to old toppies behaving like 21 year-olds, OR 30 year-olds with dentures rattling in the wind when they open their mouths 🤔 I recall the 2011 Argus when guys were elbowing and sledging one another that would send the ozzy cricket team packing. Sometimes this behaviour is the closest some people will ever get to being good at anything ............. SAD 😥
  5. Gotto agree with ChrisF, Put your money where you feel respected for your patronage. A few local spots in the Cape winelands pulled the Meerendal stunt, and it cost them ........
  6. By the cafe Mambo turnoff. Dead straight, flat, widest shoulder you will find in CPT, perfect conditions. Drove past the scene minutes after it happened. Lots of vehicles and "helpers" on the scene. A driver has to be blind, drunk or seriously distracted to hit anything at that spot. 🤬
  7. Anybody got a Bells for DustyDiesel .......................... 😝
  8. Entitlement in Oz is as prevalent as it is in the UK, US, SA and, and ........ The issue is problem parents - not problem children. Getting my stripes regularly as a kid(1970's) did not turn me into a onderbroek donning menacing oom. Getting my gat set on fire every now and then, taught me valuable lessons in life. Why is it always somebody else' s fault 🤬
  9. Nic White .................................... where the hell was Nic White when this happened 🦨
  10. I'd ride certain brands of tyres with plugs anyday, then there are brands I will not touch even when brand new. Generally, if a plug was inserted properly and as mentioned, tyre sealant used, the plug should outlast the tread. My 2 cents' worth
  11. Between Fox and Rockshox ....................... I'll take the Magura

  13. That's the spirit Cois ???? Now for carbon wheels, ceramic bearings AND 2bless conversion. A lift-kit perhaps for those rocky sections ???? Stay strong mate. You CAN nail this thing !
  14. Tiger, A few rules of thumb will apply to this race(my opinion): 1) The "burn" comes after 170km, hence you need your tiger in the tank from there on up Katbakkies and beyond(70km to go). 2) Do not overcook the first 170km, since it will cost you dearly. Naturally one would tend to send it due to the relatively flat terrain. 3) First 140km - eat like an ethiopian camel after a hunger strike and focus on a predominantly liquid fuel regime from 150km. Hydrate properly from the start. The heat will take it's pound of flesh ???? 4) Follow the same training program that have worked for you on the 36ONE on Race2C. Good luck ????
  15. Hi Chef, I ride Helshoogte often - mostly in the mornings 7-8 and then 10-12 on the return trip. I have never encountered any issues with the locals, BUT the odd stray dog might be a bigger risk when blitzing down the pass into Stellenbosch. I have had the occasions where smallish dogs dart across the road or indulge in road kill on the shoulder of the road. For this very reason I would not cycle Helshoogte at night. I am not implying that there will never be incidents, but above is my 2 cents' worth based on personal experience over the past 15 years of riding in those parts of the winelands. Cheers
  16. Vasbyt Cois ???? Ons het jou meer nodig, as jy vir ons. JY is 'n inspirasie !
  17. Hi Mojoman, Ja right................................... LIMITED LIFETIME ???? In defense of Spez, you will find the exact same fine print in most other big name brand warrantees, ie. Giant, Scott, etc. The definition of "LIFETIME" is 5 years, based on the expected lifetime of a frame - not the rider. Yes, only 5 years ???? This weak spot is actually a very common "weak spot" on most dual suss frames. I have personally seen Scotts and Giants break in the exact same spot on the drive side chain stay near the brace(roughly 15-25mm behind the main pivot). The carbon frames are more reliable, BUT not infallible. In my efforts to source a new alloy rear triangle, I managed to get my hands on a new carbon chain stay which fitted perfectly, barring a few slight mods ito a longer pivot bolt due to the carbon unit being bulkier than the alluminium. Spez could not supply me with a FSR alloy triangle, hence they sold me a carbon chainstay identical to the ones on the S-Works. Rode it like I stole the bike for 3 more years before selling it. Two years since and the frame is still holding out fine with the carbon chainstay. A Ralleigh might not be a bad idea ???? You will have lots of moola left to buy decent coffee ................... A "Lifetime" is a relevant concept ............................. it all depends ????
  18. Spez Epic Comp frame The frame was stripped and sent to Spez in Stellenbosch ......................... WELL, according to the bike shop. I got the bike back in 1000 pieces since I refused to pay R1.5k to have it reassembled after THEY stripped it to have it inspected ????. Bike shop in the Cape Town southern burb's that used to sell Spez before the Concept stores initiative took off in 2015/2016. I was not impressed, BUT I suppose that's the way the cookie falls apart hey ????
  19. I agree with Trashy ???? Alloy frames are heat treated after having been welded when built. The entire frame, welds included, are brought to a even temperature before cooled down. When new welds are done, the metal around the weld "softens" and usually crack around the new weld due to the new joint being stronger than the adjacent alloy. Aluminium frames have been repaired with great success, BUT it remains a risky process. I had a similar problem as OP, and was told by a reputable brand agent that it was a simple paint crack ........................ 3 months later it failed spectacularly AND the warrantee expired between being inspected and failure. SO, the manufacturer got themselves out of a factory replacement by arguing that it was a paint crack and left me high and dry with the broken alloy frame. Paint cracks at/near stress junctions ........................ NAH ????
  20. I put new life into my 1994 26" Hard tail Gary Fisher - RIGID as they come 3 x 8 STi with original cantilever rim brakes Tubeless done Did the 361-Half in November 2020. Best 36ONE eva ???? Have DIY gravel bike ........... will ride ????
  21. Mate of mine was a-salted the other day ???? AND he was much slower afterwards ..........................
  22. I have done a few TB's and you'd want to do this route in cooler, rather than warmer conditions. Start with a headlight and mount a bike light at Bergplaas(3rd crate @ CP4), or finish the race with only a headlight. We did our 1st race or 2 with decent headlights only and I'd do it again. Remember that a team of 4 with headlights create sufficient light on the road to safely navigate your way. You do not have to cart along heavy equipment the entire distance, and the descend from Bergplaas will be done in broad daylight this year. As for warm clothing at the start - ever tried shoving newspaper inside your shirt till the sun comes up? Lightweight arm warmers can be stashed inside your camelback or shirt pockets or a 2nd pair can be left in your Bergplaas crate should you shed your 1st set at Geelhoutbos(1st crate @ CP2). Enjoy and don't overcook the first 100km ????
