Apparently they think changing the name of the race will let everyone forget about the fiasco that was last year... Paying R230 for an entry so the organisers can packup and leave before the race cut-off, don't take your time, and not even give you a cup of coke afterwards... no thanks.

I cycled from my flat in Big Bay to the Tableview station (4-5km), the bus arrived 05:20 as per the timetable, and I arrived at the start just after 06:00 (the bus driver got lost due to the fact that the normal route wasn't being used). I found it very relaxing and efficient. There was more than enough space for our bikes, and I got to chat to some out-of-towners and foreigners. Will definitely do it again next year.

I didn't enter this year... if everyone follows suit maybe they'll start caring. Regarding the goody bag: If they make the event much cheaper (like 30-50% cheaper) the goody bag (or lack there of) might not be such a big issue anymore.

SMALLER doesn't mean worse. I for one am enjoying some of the smaller events where there is always a friendly face to help you, and you don't feel like just another drop in the ocean. Argus MTB is a good example of where BIGGER = Worse. Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse is a good example of where SMALLER = better. That being said, I'm looking forward to my Xterra goodie bag this evening.

Hi guys, I also picked up a pair of (expensive) glasses in the marathon/ultra route. PM a description and I'll try and get it back to you. If I remember correctly I found it just before we hit the first big climb.

Agree. My bike wasn't really dirty, but I just would have liked to rinse the seawater and seasand of off the drive-train without having to pay R50. If the organisers could just supply a hose next year I think most people will be happy. If you want a thorough cleaning with a "minor" service then use the bikewash facility, but don't force every participant to use it if all they want to do is prevent their bike from crumbling into a heap of rust on day 2.

I must agree, this was the worst part of my day. The 30km from the Elim waterpoint to the final waterpoint. I was cursing and screaming out loud at stages. When I got to the final waterpoint I told them how glad I was to see them and that I might have started to curse them in my head because I thought they packed up or something :-) They were kind enough to offer me a sandwich, so I instantly forgave them.

Well done! Everyone that finished yesterday should feel a sense of accomplishment. It was the longest and hardest day I've spent on a bike ever (just under 7 hours). Day 1 was a "breeze" compared to yesterday. That last 10k's back to the lighthouse also felt way longer than the day before. Also think I'll be back next year.

Looking forward to it. Hope I'm fit enough, and that the 29er works nicely in the sand We were supporters last year, and it looked like a fun event. Nothing fancy or flashy, and keeps the price down I guess.
