  1. Made my target with 25 seconds to spare. Came in at 8:59:35. My toughest day on a bike ever. I had brake rub from km1 to km121 which was annoying (and to everyone around me). My riding partner had a puncture at 30kms which took us 10mins to fix. The first 70 kms are super hard. WP2 to WP3 was the hardest by far. Took me two hours for those 20kms. Had terrible chainsuck at the techzone at WP3, and was so happy for the spraydown. The beast of a climb coming out of WP3 took it's toll on the legs and my sense of humour. Lucky my legs recovered quite a bit by the time we reached waterpoint 4 and I was able to punch it from there. Will aim for sub 8 next year. One of the best events I have ever done. Highlights: 1. Ostrich kebabs at WP5. How do they get it so soft?? 2. Reaching the top of "King of the Attakwas" oom Katot was standing there next to his Landrover. The guy in front of me chirped "Oom dis mos jy wat hierdie k@k uitdink?". Without skipping a beat oom Katot chirps back "Ek staan nou hier en voel die aand briesie wat inkom, en ek weti of jy dit gaan maak nie". Lessons learned: 1. Train more. Did about 8hours a week for this one... 2. Train on hills. 3. Train on more technical hills. 4. Get a saddlebad and leave the camelbak at home. 5. Chammycream works wonders. 6. Ikon(back) and Racing Ralph(front) is a good combo. 7. Elite bottlecages DO NOT WORK at Attakwas. 8. (edit) Lose 5-10kg
  2. I've done the short one three times. I own a wetsuit, but I think you'll be cooking even after 400m. That dam water is always nice and warm. Doing the full this year however, and thinking about a wetsuit though.
  3. Seeding broken? I'm in D which seems correct, but others are all over the place. It's on the site now...
  4. Expensive, expesiver, Specialized :-)
  5. I ride a 2013 Flash Carbon 3 with Alu Lefty with the standard Formula Lefty SL hub. More often than not the hub starts to squeak (sounding like a little bird calling for it mom). When I took the bike for first service at CWC they said it's a common "issue" with Lefty hubs. When you remove the wheel you are able to see the rubber seal that apparently causes the sound. They advised me to just add a drop of lube every now and then. Has anyone else had this problem? Will a drop of Finish Line Wet Lube work? I don't want to use lube that might degrade the seal...
  6. I commute every now and then from Blouberg to Rondebosch. Cycle lane at the way to Woodstock station, the nonto lower church, the into Albert (suicidal) and then onto Liesbeek, and then to Claremont Virgin Active for a shower. I don't do it often enough though. I usually leave at about 6:30 and leave work at about 5:00 latest. Will follow the thread and possibly join in every now and then.
  7. But from what I saw, you need to "add" the other registered members of your team when you enter a three of four man team now. So I don't think you can fake enter people... because that is kinda what I want to do now.
  8. So difficult to enter. Only got my CSA license today. And have to finalise your team now (8 months prior) in order to enter. Wish I could just pay for the entry and sort the rest out later...
  9. I've seen Giant XTC29 frames in the classifieds a few times. Don't think you can go wrong with those
  10. I had a Craft Performance bib once. Very good quality.
  11. When I opened this thread I thought "JD Bug" was some kind of super virus that just hit Cape Town...
  12. Anyone know of LBS in Cape Town that has any stock of Jagwire Ripcord for MTB derailure?
  13. Anyone know of LBS in Cape Town that has any stock of Jagwire Ripcord for MTB derailure?
  14. He can't really make up his mind can he? One moment he "never sees himself doing LeTour again", then next moment he want to do the tour and be captain, then next moment he want to do the tour and help Froome....
  15. Would this void your warranty on the frame? I really like my Cannondale Flash, but the cable routing is crap and I'm now really struggling with shifting at the back. So also looking to convert to full cable housing.
  16. Also, convincing government to build cycle path for recreational/training will be difficult. But convincing them to build paths for commuting might be easier. So Critical Mass and Moonlight Mass should not just be a social gathering of fashion/hippie/hipster/ultrarich people, or a place to show of how many lumens you can pump out. But should be a gathering of the people that actually need these paths. People that rely on them to get from point A to B for 90% of their travel. And yes I am referring to the low income portion of the population. The people that barely have a road to ride on. They are the ones that need these paths more than us. But we will all benefit at the end of the day.
  17. Attakwas Transbaviaans Use shammy cream...
  18. Then I'm spot on. Maybe even over "trained" at the moment
  19. That interview with Brad Brown: That woman is a moron plain and simple. It scares me that someone like that is responsible to ensure safety on our roads, and to do followup investigations. Asking motorist nicely to drive carefully won't solve anything...
  20. Makes sense. In your experience, is there anything that closely resembles "Race Food" that would be good for races? Will be different for everyone, but I just need some ideas to experiment with. I do like the baby potatoes, but sometimes you just need something a bit more convenient (wrt to preparation).
  21. Who sells "Race Food"? Also like that stuff. Goes down easy I find.
  22. What about the support team at the eco huts? :-) Really felt for you guys coming back in the heat and we were soaking in the dam. Heat was insane!! Eselfontein is great. We went for our ride in the late afternoon, after the races.
  23. Tundra 2 came stock on my bike... IT DID NOT AGREE WITH MY ASS But the key words there are "MY ass".
  24. Old Helshoogte will be full of leaves and branches. They probably still have clean it up before next weekend. Stick to New Hels.
  25. I was in the same boat. Then CWC had that 15-20% discount sale and I was able to get mine for just under R29k. So keep looking, you might get lucky!
