  1. This is so very true. Trying to convince my dad of this at the moment. Since I've moved out of my parents house a couple of years ago I no longer find it weird to just have some scrambled eggs and tomato for dinner (even on a Saturday) for example. This is the type of meal that he would never "approve" of. He still lives in the "rys en vleis" culture, and it's not sustainable for him. He is a type 2 diabetic and not taking it seriously at all!
  2. Did the long MTB: Swim went okay. Didn't expect anything more as I wasn't swimming that much the last couple weeks. First hald of the MTB was pretty fast and flat, but rocky and sandy. Second half was quite tough I thought. More rocks, coupled with some quick up and downs to drain the legs. The run was very hard. Although very flat, the sand and heat made it tough going. Cool event!
  3. I have made a mistake here or there whilst cycling and people have hooted at me. I knew I made a mistake and felt like an idiot afterwards. I also felt some shame the whole way riding back home and thought about how I was the one that was in the wrong. But I always take something away from the incident, and learn something. THESE cyclists you are referring to have no sense of what is right or wrong. Or rather, what is acceptable and what is not. They feel no shame or any sense of wrong doing. I guess you can call them the psychopaths of cycling...
  4. Ja looking forward to it! Haven't been swimming that much since 70.3, and could feel it this weekend at Clanwilliam. Eye opener, which was good. Hope all the racing snakes will we doing the long road event, then the average Joe's like me can feel like pro's on the MTB :-D
  5. Doing is for the first time. Long MTB for me. Clanwilliam went okay so will try and push it a bit.
  6. Wow quick delivery. Ordered this morning, and just delivered.
  7. EDIT: Sorry, actually don't want to get involved.
  8. Guess I'm not a very good customer at my LBS because I get normal price...
  9. I don't understand. So if your bike is on the back of your car (locked with a chain), and you go park it in a dodgy area and they steal it they will pay the full amount. But locked up in a secure garage, there is a limit??
  10. What chainstay protectors do you guys use? I used to do the "wrap-an-old-tube-around-it" method, but the bike is just so pretty...
  11. Think TheHub needs a boxing ring somewhere on the site. So when hubbers start bitching at each other over something unrelated they can just go there and beat the living piss out of each other while not polluting a serious thread like this. I'm actually quite interested in where this goes, but don't feel like reading through all this gunk anymore.
  12. Who stocks this "STRAVA" you speak of? What is their warranty policy?
  13. I think a good question would be: "Are you only planning on doing Ironman and 70.3 distance events? Forever?" If yes: Then a tri bike is the way to go because of the benefits mentioned earlier. If no: Then a tri bike will leave you sulking at home when your friends are doing smaller triathlons or road events. Some shorter triathlons like Jailbreak Lite and Slanghoek Road does allow tri bikes though (I think).
  14. Somewhere on TheHub a thread exists: MTBer on Contermanskloof not helping fellow cyclist So there I was riding on Contermanskloof road when I steadily come up to another cyclist. He was going a little slower than me so I decided to overtake him as the climb started. Just after I passed him a fly flew into my mouth!! I sort of clogged my throat and I was struggling to breathe. I had to reduce my speed as I was not getting any air. Finally I was able to worm the thing out of my throat and spit it out. Then the cyclist I just passed comes up to me me and asks: "Was that really necessary??". WOW. So much for caring for your fellow cyclist.
  15. That road looks like a nightmare with all those trucks!
  16. You will have to play around with nutrition. You won't find the perfect recipe for you overnight. With regards to running out of steam... one gel on a 3:15 ride is maybe cutting it close (especially if you are pushing it). But, again you will have to experiment with what works for you. I know what I have to eat and drink if I want to keep going.
  17. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/category/25-complete-bikes/ Filter - "Western Cape"
  18. Haven't ridden there myself, but these guys have pretty good maps: http://irideafrica.com/trail-maps/ Hope it helps.
  19. I should have just done the same... dammit!
  20. Can anyone recommend a towbar fitment centre in Cape Town? I have a Polo (new shape), but really don't want to spend R3000 just for the towbar... will only use it for bike rack ever really.
  21. Member of the club now...
  22. Glider have some nice options. http://www.glidereyewear.com/product-catalogue-outdoor/ I have the Asphalt (Red/Black), and it's quite nice. Also like their lenses. Shouldn't be more than R500
  23. My dad is relocating to one of those new estates on Old Sir Lowry's Pass Rd later in the year. Even more reason to go visit then.
  24. This view probably makes me want to ride most...
