  1. Nope, waiting for my Pyga OneTen29er frame
  2. Sani was R8,900 so R7,500 is not really that bad, it is an awesome race. If you want a stage race on a budget that is still n excellent ride go for 3 Towers.
  3. Joberg2c, absolutely no doubt, takes in Sani and Berg& Bush and is organized by some of the industries best + some of the most spectacular trails SA has to offer

  5. That is a great price, if I'm not mistaken a Giant Anthem 26 inch with Fox rear shock will set you back about R10k. My opinion, anything cheaper than the Anthem or the above Spez is a waste of time.
  6. I asked a similar question at my LBS and this is what I was told: All tyre maufacturers pay royalties to Mavic for using the UST system which Mavic own and is patented. Conti have developed their own "UST" system but cannot call it UST due to the trademark, they clearly got gatvol of paying royalties. So their 29er puncture protection is equivalent to their 26inch UST tyres in terms of robustness and mounting, I don't think you can compare the 29er puncture protection to their 26inch puncture protection. As I said this is what I have been told however I cannot vouch for it being 100% correct, having said that I have no reason to doubt it either.
  7. I used to ride mountain king front race king on the back, switched to x king on the back, great tyre. Busy building up a 29 er wheel set and have decided to go x king from and back, it has great grip and rolls nicely.
  8. I've gone with the Conti X King puncture protect front and back
  9. My LBS says that the dropper posts devlop play/movement over time, has anyone experienced this ?
  10. Thank for the info, the few reviews I picked up on Google mirror what you say about Rockshox being good, apparently Crank Brothers and the rest are pretty K@k
  11. What price do they generally go for ?
  12. The concept made sense when i saw it, was wondering if it would be predominantly used for trail and all mountain. Does anybody use it for marathon/stage racing or is that taboo. I can think of a few occasions where it would have come in useful in Joberg2c , descending the escarpment (Solly's Folly) is top of mind.
  13. Forgive my ignorance, i must have been hiding under the wrong rock, but what discipline of mountainbiking is a dropper seat post intended for ? For some reason the 1st time I ever heard of a dropper was on Sani when the SuperSport guys reviewed a few of the Specialized bikes.
  14. I would suggest a skills course from the guys at Tread magazine, go to www.treadmag.co.za they run courses in jhb, ctn and durbs. Everything from beginner to advanced.
  15. Agree, Gobi is the business, best saddle I've used and am currently using
  16. Building over Hope X2 brakes and XO group set. Have bought a Fox Talas and am building wheels with Mavic rims and Hope hubs, will also sell my 26 inch fork and wheels and frame, thankfully. If I had to start from scratch I'd be stuffed.
  17. You need a 120mm travel fork for the Pyga, the Sid is only 100mm travel. I think Pyga are offering a limited number of complete bikes you can contact them via the website. Costs get out of hand quickly, I'm building everything from my 26 inch bike over to the Pyga apart from fork and wheels.
  18. Thanks for the feedback Arendoog, the DT Swiss are 470g per rim and Mavic are 510g per rim, so no major difference. The annoying thing is that there are no proper UST rims available for 29er, both would be made tubeless through a conversion kit, Mavic are only releasing their 29er UST rim for 2013. The only 29er wheelset that is UST is the Crossmax 29er and it is not compatible with the Syntace X12 rear axle so I can't use it.
  19. Thanks for the feedback DD. I've never ridden the ZTRs, some people say they are brilliant and other say they're to soft, if I did look at ZTR I would say Arch EX but for now I'll stick to the Mavic or DT Swiss.
  20. Hi All, I'm building a set of 29er wheels, looking at Mavic TN719 or DT swissX470. I will be using Hope Pro 2 hubs. I am 1.93m tall and about 86kg, mainly ride groenies, thaba, rietvlei etc and stage races like Joberg2c, 3 Towers etc Does anyone have any experience with either of the above rims ? I've heard from a few people that the ZTR rims are quite soft so please don't suggest them, thanks.
  21. What are the ticket costs ? I'm good for 6 tickets.
  22. I'm looking at the Bronson for the front and Wolverine on the back but Two Wheels Trading (distributor) don't have the Wolverine in 29 er UST, they only have the Bronson which I don't think will roll that nicely on the back. Any thoughts as to hat else to put on the back . Must be 29er UST

. Don`t underestimate the flat days, the relentless pedaling can wear you down especially if there are lots of f*cking grass `polle` for want of a better word. They have sorted out the grass thankfully, I've done 2011 & 2012, I believe you guys got shaken apart in 2010

    Joberg2c 2013

I'm with jaxtun on this one, well mostly. Day 1 and 2 are a walk in the park. Day 1 is neutral so nice slow warm up ride, day 2 is only 90kms or so, quite easy, day 3 is tough, although it's fairl flat it is 125kms, it hurts. Agree with Graskop, push to hard on these days and you will pay the price on day 4, 5, 6
