  1. Competition closes early April, get the entries in !
  2. Agree, if you aren't bothered putting the tube in your pocket then I don't see the person carrying it to a bin on the trail. What pisses me off the most is that this is a nature reserve.
  3. I went to groenies today and within 2 laps I saw 3 tubes left on the trail. If you get a puncture how hard is it to take the old tube with you ? Why be an inconsiderate BOX and dump it on the trail ? seriously wtf ?

    Suikerbosrand

I tried at about 16:45 today, no answer will try again tomorrow, thought one of the hubbers might know
  7. Hi All, I have heard that there is a running race at Suikerbosrand on Wednesday (public holiday) does anyone know anything about it and if the reserve will be open to cyclists on the day ?
  8. So still no official word on the closure then ?
  9. I would also like to know, JB where has the info come from ? How official is this ?
  10. Hi All, I'm looking at upgrading my current bar and stem to a carbon set, probably Easton, is there actually any performance advantage in going with carbon or is it just look ? the weight saving is there but it's not a moving part so I doubt I will feel the difference ?
  11. You should replace every 5 years. Not sure of the reason but I can imagine 5 years of sweat eventually taking its toll.
  12. Kamikaze do u lead a very boring life ? If u not posting videos of people falling off their bikes u are mocking riders who use bar ends. What difference does it make in your life if somebody chooses to use them ? If u do long rides, 4 hour plus they actually make a helluva difference in terms of comfort, all they allow is a different hand position on the bars, it helps shoulders, back etc I found them to be a life saver on joberg2c. Get a life tjop !
  13. I also have DDD LS 4 & 5. Have been working with my Bio for 4 months and Chiro for a year, the bio in conjunction with chiro has been a huge help, however doing the chiro by itself didn't help in the long term (only way is to strengthen the core as said above). I did Joberg2C last year and am doing it again this year so I would say keep riding. Can anyone suggest the best place for a professional fit on the East Rand ? or must I travel to JHB ?
  14. Surely there is someone out there who can develop a bike park such as Rietvlei or the MTN Fourways park for the East Rand ? I would think it would do quite well. Just a thought.
  15. Saw that as well, that will really suck if we can't get in. Riding past Serengeti is also getting more difficult with the new school. Really sucks !

    GPS files

Happy new year everyone. iI'm looking at buying a Bryton Rider 35 or Garmin Edge 500, I can get the Bryton for R500 less than the Garmin and from what I can see they have exactly the same functions. My only concern is can a gps file that was created by a Garmin be loaded onto the Bryton ? I don't want to get the Bryton and then not find files for a place like Mankele or similar and find them available for the Garmin. Any advice would be appreciated.
  19. Couldn't agree more regarding Miway being crap. Contacted them for a quote for my 2 bikes, I'm currently with Cyclesure and thought I could save some cash moving to Miway. When I eventually get my quote (3 phone calls to get my email address correct), my name and address is incorrect, I also see the cover is for far less than for what Cyclesure covers me for, I drop them a mail with a list of concerns and questions, I get a call saying they would like to give me feedback on my questions, I say thanks but put in on email then we can talk, needless to say a week later and still no mail, very disappointing considering all the mtb sponsorship, would have expected them to have a better understanding of the sport.
  20. If you've been using warfarin for a long time I would also suggest a bone density scan, you could get a nasty surprise.
  21. Looks good, do you have a branch in Gauteng ?
  22. I'm in pretty much the same boat as Super J. I'm 31, suffered with serious back pain for over a year, saw the chiro during that period and started to come right, then rode Joberg2c and by day 4 was in agony, managed the pain with Genpayne (myprodol generic) used it sensibly (if thats possible) and did no permanent damage. Saw a Neuro suregeon about 2 months back and have been diagnosed with DDD, L4 and L5. Neuro refuses to operate, also said if I can still ride a bike I am not in enough pain to warrant an op and am also to young, good chance I won't ride again after an op, I have started an intensive 3 month biokineticist program so lets see how that goes. i am still seeing the chiro as i find that helps a lot with the pain. I changed my bed to a Simmons (firm) and I've found that made a helluva difference (cost R10k though). I am riding Joberg2C again next year again so need to sort this asap, I have been off the bike for 4 weeks while i try to sort out the worst of the pain, hope to get on the mtb (dual) this weekend (will stick to the road for a while though, find off road is definitely far more painful)
  23. A few questions fitter: I assume by the above post that you are a doctor or at least have a medical back ground ? Are you saying that "the core" does not exist or has no relation to back pain or the alleviation thereof ? I am referring to both a cycling and general context, as I suffer equally from back pain on and off the bike, more so offroad than on road for obvious reasons. As mentioned earlier I have degenerative disc disease and my Neuro surgeon has been very clear that the only solution to my problem and the pain is an intensive 3 month program with a biokineticist to strengthen my core. The only alternative to this a complicated op which will almost certainly mean no more cycling, given my age the surgeon has ruled an op out. So if the strengthening the core is irrelevant are you saying the surgeon is completely incorrect and should perhaps find another profession ?
  24. I have severe lower back pain, caused by degenerative disc disease, other than an op the only way to fix (slow down) the problem is through strengthening the core, I don't see that changing my set up will help at all unfortunately.
  25. I have had nothing but poor service from Cape Cycle Systems, ordered a Rock Sox Sid through my LBS, they confirmed they had the correct stock then sent the incorrect fork 3 times! Also ordered a Sram XO full groupset through my LBS, was very clear that Iwanted the XO with red decals, was in the LBS when order was placed, they confirm they have 5 sets in stock in the colour I request, then they proceed to ship the groupset in grey ?? They are agents for some excellent brands, it's a pity they don't do them justice, it seems to be a common probelm is the SA market, it puts the LBS in an awkward spot and drives business to the likes of CRC imho.
